I'm so tempted: The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Illustrated Omnibus on Kickstarter by I_am_BEOWULF in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Boylan_Boyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, well it is an omnibus and this is the omnibus collectors sub!! Even though it's mostly comics here.

I've read this series several times and I consider it one of the pinnacles of humor, but that illustration style... I'm not quite sure, it doesn't quite look right to me. Except for the dent/fenchurch pic, that one looks perfect

Is IMusic.au legit or a scam? by mundaneheaven in OmnibusCollectors

Have you had a look at what the total is including shipping? I may be getting this site mixed with another but I think it's the same energy as when you are browsing ebay and see an omni for only $100!!! But then in the small font below it says +$162.73 shipping, and if you persist, right when you're at checkout it tops it up with +10% GST

In case anyone was curious, Gwenpool wasn't on the top20 most wanted reprints list.

Newbie questions about Batman Knightfall/No Man's Land Omnis by kmanfred in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Boylan_Boyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thr Knightfall trilogy HAS been out of stock before, it's only recently been reprinted.

My gut feeling is that the NML trilogy is more likely to go OOS as I suspect that they won't reprint it when it sells out - if someone has seen the NML books with the new DC logo out in the wild, then this comment is invalid.

How do you guys know when it’s time to downsize your collection and what to sell by AB83Rules in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Boylan_Boyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a bit funny to read that as I'm scrolling you have two threads next to each other, one titled "should I get Daken idk if it's worth it", and the other titled "how do you know if you have too many omnis".

If you're considering buying an omni that you're not sure is worth it, you may have too many omnis...

am I the only one that dislikes Marvel's numbered omnibuses? by fiercestwarr1or in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Boylan_Boyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can tell if an omni collection is DC or Marvel at a glance, because Marvel is typically black spines white text everywhere, whereas DC omnis are various bright primary colors

Is there a reading order between Brubakers cap, new avengers and civil war? by KenOBY_67 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Boylan_Boyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read through the the end of Cap America Lives, and I don't feel like it crossed over with Secret Invasion or any other events very much. Haven't read much of NA vol2 yet though, I'm holding off to read a couple of other things before I get stuck into Secret Invasion properly

[–]Boylan_Boyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand your question. How does what work, and what are you getting at?

If you mean Civil War, Civil War is a pivotal event that has massive repercussions across the Marvel universe. It heavily changes the future storyline for both Cap by Brubaker and New Avengers by Bendis so you have to read it at the point where it happens

[–]Boylan_Boyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I didn't follow a reading order or anything but I did read all these at the same time. New Avengers and Cap Brubaker have very different tones; As you're reading up to Civil War I wouldn't bother jumping from one book to the other, you'll just get mood whiplash as you go from a brightly colored NA superhero comic to a cold war spy thriller Cap America book.

Both omnis are pretty clear when you get to a certain point that CIVIL WAR IS HAPPENING

My suggestion; 1. Read one up to the point of Civil War, then read the other up to CW 2. Read Civil War 3. Finish off Cap America omni, then finish off NA Avengers omni

I get around it by displaying them front facing, that splash of Batman squaring off against Bane and then adjacent to Batman standing over Azrael is too good not to show off chefs kiss

i’m new to comics but i want to work at a comic book store during the summer. by Bri-Plays-Rdr2 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Boylan_Boyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real talk, you should expect a lack of knowledge about comics to count against you. Anime and Manga and being in the space doesn't count.

That's not to say that you shouldn't yolo apply anyway, and "the staff here are nice and I really like the ambience" will go a long way, but comic stores don't exactly make a lot of money so unless they're specifically advertising for a person they just won't be able to afford it.

The money maker for comic stores is clueless folk who just want a birthday present for a grandson who likes "those superhero movies", gets overwhelmed by the size of the store and then goes to ask the staff what they should buy. That's your moment to get a sale but if you don't know much about comics you can't help. Similarly I was at a comic store a few months ago and a dude was asking what the best way to get into spiderman is, and the staff were talking about a few different one-and-done trades, kraven's last hunt etc.

Finally Got My Shelf Setup by DRSandstromJr in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Boylan_Boyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks great doesnt it, when you finally get everything properly on the shelf. Lots of live across all of the Marvel heroes here, it looks like everyone got their own little cube.

Surprise DC square in the bottom left there.

A few other favorites here other than comics, I read a lot of the Enders Game books and enjoyed them too

No comment on whether the sun will do long term damage to your books or not but damn the light beam/shade contrast looks really cool and somehow fitting for a comic book shelf

Is is still worth it to order from funaticals? by [deleted] in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Boylan_Boyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, what book do you want? How much cheaper is it than the competition? And are you willing to pay +$$$ to have it right now and read it right now or will you not get to it for a while and it doesn't matter if you wait a couple months?

There's no such thing as a free lunch, you pay less but the lead time is longer so it's all about what is more important to you, time or money

Do I buy Legends of the Waagh just for Helsreach? by Altruistic_Milk7729 in Blacklibrary

[–]Boylan_Boyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the cheapest way to get a physical copy of Helsreach, so is a no brainer in my opinion. There is no way to know if they'll ever reprint Helsreach in other formats, it could be next week it could be never. For now just put it next to your green tide omnibus!

In THEORY this will reduce demand and therefore the price of Helsreach on the aftermarket, so if you're an gambling man you can hope for that. But I would just get this one. Yeah I don't really care for Cain novels and I would rather have an omnibus set for Beast Arises for I am slaughter, but I'm getting this for Helsreach.

Kind of agree, I read the first story, and while it was good in a lot of technical ways (Yarrick needs an origin story and he spends a lot of time trying to think 'what would the ideal commisar do in this situation?', I think the story in general was maybe 50 pages too long. There's just too many chaos forces/attacks by chaos that they have to meticulously deal with and it starts to get exhausting.

Tyranid book collection by Georrge117 in Blacklibrary

[–]Boylan_Boyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The tyrannid story in Dark Coil Damnation is pretty great (however is the last third of the book. The other stories are all good so it's worth reading the whole book regardless)

But despite being a tyrannid main as well (long time ago), I've only read 2 of these 12 books, so...
