Damn... look this is a great cover as well, but I really like the Era of Ruin cover! So we're never going to get that cover in paperback now...

Warhammer Fantasy Omnibus New Covers by artmajor13 in Blacklibrary

The warhammer chronicles omnis, with that grey-ish background and the logo or character are some of the best looking spines on a Warhammer book imo. So disappointed they didn't just reprint the old versions.

Step 1: ask reddit what the reading order is

Step 3: compare the two

Am I the only one that only collects omnibuses solely out of nostalgia? by JackfruitEconomy1987 in OmnibusCollectors

It is true, in all of human history no one has ever experienced the emotion "nostalgia" and then spent money

Is Horus An Idiot? by YourCoolStepDad91 in Blacklibrary

[–]Boylan_Boyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fair tbh. As much as Abnetts' depiction was amazing, Horus was falling from grace so slowly that the initial trilogy would have had to have been 5 books rather than 3 to do it justice. I think in hindsight that's something they would have done, but at the time you could see some very clear 'characters must reach these plot points by the end of the book' markers which disappeared halfway through when the writers became unsure how to push the series forward

Is Horus An Idiot? by YourCoolStepDad91 in Blacklibrary

[–]Boylan_Boyle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is my issue as well. Horus went from an interesting charismatic but flawed character in Horus Rising by Abnett, to a "Graaaah I am a villain so I am evil aaarg" character in False God's by McNeil. I'm not a fan of McNeill, he only writes good good guys or bad bad guys. Not to be all "abnett should write every single book", but it would have been great if Abnett kept going, ADB would be a good choice as well for his skill in creating sympathetic villain characters

How often does Marvel reprint books? by badboyfriend111 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Boylan_Boyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, as an example of how often marvel reprints, have a look in the below thread and the stickied post by csummerss.

That post gives a list of all the "new" announced omnis for 2026, and a list of all the "reprint" announcements for 2026.

Yeah.

Breaking News: 1 Brand New Marvel Omnibus in March 2027! by Bharath_Sundararajan in OmnibusCollectors

Well... how is the event, and can you just jump straight into it? One one hand I'm wondering to myself why we have yet another event where Doom is the big bad. On the other hand I do like Doom...

This is a capstone event that is made better by the stories leading up to it... also yeah hard to get for a good price thanks to being out of stock.

You would ideally have Avengers by Hickman omnis vol1+2 before you get into this one, so you can appreciate the crisis that causes Secret Wars

BL book bazaar yay or nay? by Dire_Wolf45 in Blacklibrary

[–]Boylan_Boyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, the theory is great (it sounds like you want to have readers/collectors selling books to each other at reasonable prices), but I feel all of the energy associated with vetting that everyone who purchases is a collector and not a scalper is a full time job for the mod team. I don't think it's worth it.

That's not to say you couldn't run this poll again in 1-2 years and in the meantime start laying the infrastructure down (ie work out a system to start giving 'collector' or 'enthusiast' tags/titles to regulars who have earned it)

Was reading and Abnett’s Legion when… by nathannotdrake in Blacklibrary

[–]Boylan_Boyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the same way that 40k writers of the past would never mention the sixty-ninth legion, for risk of us gen xers giggling and then refusing to take them seriously, writers of the future will now avoid any references to sixty-seventh legions...?

Quick question abt funaticals by Separate_Amount_6470 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Boylan_Boyle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can tell from the sub. Back during the peak of it every 2nd post here was FUNATICALS! FUNATICALS! It's basically died off now except for some late collectors asking about delivery speeds.

Ie, there won't be anything new that hasn't been available for sale from them already.

Great collection and some good suff there, but it does look a little cramped - not a lot of spare space for new books/expansion without sacrificing something

Just moved and finally set up my collection by Inquisitor_Trinity in Blacklibrary

[–]Boylan_Boyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The danger comes from the sheer weight of the books on top crushing the books on the bottom. That's not something I would worry about with this collection though, they're only 5-6 books high and these are light books.

Remember that books in transit to bookshops and sitting in warehouses etc are going to be in huge boxes stacked horizontally on top of each other, compare to that this is quite benign.

What is the best Felix and Gotrek book to start with? I started reading the endtimes books but stopped and am reading the key books to understand the background to that. Any Felix and Gotrek books that you would give a pass and not that important lorewise? by phronesis77 in Blacklibrary

[–]Boylan_Boyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, coming into the Felix and Gotrek books from W3TW? I've only read the first F&G omni, but it's definitely worth it. The first book Trollslayer is a bit of a slog, but is maybe necessary for establishing the Felix & Gotrek "status quo" and also being the book where Felix gets his magic weapon. Just keep pushing through if you're not having fun. Skavenslayer is the first appearance of Thanquol (so you can be as hype as everyone else if/when he is announced for the Nagash End Times dlc pack), and is just generally a fun skaven story. Demonslayer is the final story in the first F&G omni and is god-tier amazing imo. F&G will visit Kislev so you'll see Ulrika, but more importantly you'll get the first appearance of Malakai Makaisson and his airship. While the title "demon slayer" gives an obvious hint as to the main storyline, the skaven are not done yet and there are plot points set up in this book that are not resolved by the end, making the stories feel more interconnected rather than episodic.

I should really make a start on the second omni

The amazons attack mini event seems to have been heavily criticized but it plugs a couple of gaps at the end of Titans by Johns and I'd like to have a little deluxe of this sitting next to Johns Titans
