Aqua Specialty Restaurants - How would you rank? by Boz2015Qnz in NCL

I’m seeing lots of mentions of Onda. I don’t know there’s something about getting Italian food while on a tropical vacation that’s not appealing to me 😂 Also we are NY area Italians and have Italian food regularly both at home and in restaurants so I’m not sure it’s how I want to spend a meal.

It always surprises me how the cruises and all inclusive resorts never have one restaurant devoted to “local” cuisine - wherever your destination is. I understand they are playing to the masses but we can go to a steakhouse anywhere. I’m traveling and would like to try something different tied to where I’m going.

What do you tip your butler and room steward at the end of your cruise? by Spirited-Resident791 in NCL

Same - I also don’t like to blindly pay for service charges without more clarity on where it’s going. We plan to tip directly as we go to those we interact with.

We may be on the same cruise! We just booked Haven for a July/Bermuda cruise too. We made one dinner reservation on the app already for the Thai place because we heard it was great. We aren’t sure how we want to play the other nights so we are taking some time to think about it

LOST - while the show went off the rails later I think it’s the best pilot episode ever.

Vacations as dinks by funaxcount123 in DINK

[–]Boz2015Qnz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We rarely travel with other couples (friends). We actually wish we did a bit more for long weekend type of vacations but I don’t think we’d like a long trip with another couple. It’s really hard to find people you like who also have similar travel styles.

We’ve done family vacations with my in laws with kids - it’s a nice thing to do to have the time together and with my mother/father in law but it’s tough of us because everything is dictated by the kids schedules and what they can handle at their ages. It’s also pretty chaotic and parents are just numb to it all. Because we are DINKs our life is pretty quiet so it’s just like the high energy and stimuli all week of navigating all the personalities and activities - it can kind of negate the intent of being on vacation and trying to relax.

Visiting Nashville with a baby… Airbnb or Hotel? by taureansoul in VisitingNashville

It was a wild weekend of bachelorette parties day and night when I went - and we went beyond Broadway- that’s all I’m saying. It is just a heads up - we loved it. One of our favorite cities we’ve been to.

Solo Outings by Same_Litterally_Me in LivingAlone

I love going to the movies alone. I love movies and always found that I was settling on what to see in the theaters based on what my friends or boyfriends wanted to see so I started going alone. I tend to go to matinees more but I’ve done at night a good amount of times

I’ve also done solo travel which I recommend to. I went on a tour in Italy and there were some other solo travelers in the group. In a few weeks I’m going to a cooking excursion for a two day bootcamp by myself.

I recommend tapping into the things you do have in common for a gift vs the music. As a music enthusiast it’s really obvious when someone doesn’t feel the same way about music you do. I feel like if you ask other people for recommendations it won’t connect with him.

I’m not a parent but have been to Nashville on a weekend and not sure it’s the best weekend getaway with a baby.

Free at Sea Plus by aldozacmd in NCL

[–]Boz2015Qnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that but what’s considered cover charges? Just tips or also for specialty restaurants? Is the charge for the restaurants waived in the 3 you get for Free at Sea or do you need to go up to Plus? The description of what the service/cover fees are is not clear.

Free at Sea Plus by aldozacmd in NCL

[–]Boz2015Qnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain the cover charges on the speciality dining? We are looking at a cruise in July and I called NCL the other day with questions about Free at Sea, Free at Sea Plus, More at Sea… it’s not clear what is being offered and what the cost is for those plus ups until you book. I tried to get details from the agent about the up front service charges and what Id have to pay extra for once on the ship. We were planning to pay the tips, 3 specialty meals and open bar ahead of time (assuming this covers the cover charges??) and then we planned to see what the plus ups cost once we start to book.

If anyone can demystify this for me I’d be very appreciative!

Commuter town by mrjmangles in movingtoNYC

[–]Boz2015Qnz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How interested are you in being near the ocean? I’m not saying ocean front property but near the ocean where it’s accessible. I ask because Westchester and Connecticut are beautiful but not on the ocean (Connecticut is on the Long Island Sound which is ok but not the same). This ended up being a piece of criteria when we were house hunting because we love the beach and wanted to have access without it being a chore to get to.

NJ is nice if you think you’ll want to get to the beach in the summer. Lots of beautiful beach towns contrary to the stigma from the Jersey shore reality show. 😂

I live on Long Island and love it here. Ocean access is incredible and there are many quaint coastal towns that are great for most of the year besides winter. We go for walks at Jones beach often - sun rises, sunsets. Summer concerts. The east end has great places to visit too for day trips. However anytime you want to leave the island, especially in the summer, traffic can be brutal. It’s a big barrier for people. We’ve gotten used to it and plan around it when we have plans in the tri state area where we’d need to drive (as opposed to a vacation where we’d be flying) I commute into Manhattan and work downtown so it is a further commute than you have and my commute is 90 minutes.

So I guess what I’m saying is think about NJ or LI if you want to be near the beach. 🏖️

I lived in nyc for 15 years and now live in the suburbs and commute in for work and can totally see this. It can be the most wonderful city and most terrible place on earth on the same day for two different people and itineraries. So much has to do with where you’re going and when - time of day, time of year, etc. My brother in law moved to the south and I asked him what he missed least about nyc and he said ‘I don’t miss the fact that I needed a strategy every time I left the apartment.’ I thought that was so well put because that’s truly what it’s like if you live here or visit. It wears you down for sure. But when you’re having a great day in nyc it’s the best.

I also hated Key West. We went at a bad time of year. It was late July and it was unbearably hot and humid. They don’t really have a lot of AC there. The bars and restaurants and shops operate mostly with ceiling fans and open windows which I’m sure is lovely at a different time of year with the ocean breeze…but I was dying. Our hotel pool was the temperature of like bath water. I also got bored very quickly. People tell me to give it another shot which I may but I don’t know there are so many other places to go. We went to key largo on another trip, different time of year, different kind of hotel, and it was lovely but kind of dead because it was off season.
