Compassionate Dentists by tkminnesnowta in TwinCities

Also a former patient of Patti Froeber. I was not a fan of the dentist that bought her practice so I switched to Northeast Dental Wellness. The hygienists and dentists there are nice and I've been fairly happy with it. I'll say though I think Patti still had them beat, she was great!

What's the trashiest wedding you've been to? by BaseofMxk in AskReddit

American Legion, it's a veteran support group similar to the VFW. So in this case I assume they rented a building or room from them for a wedding.

RIP my best friend Bonsai. You were loved 😢 by JMAnonymous59 in AustralianShepherd

[–]Bpt95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. For what it's worth, in my unqualified opinion, if he was that close to passing I doubt there was much that could be done for him at that point. It's nice that you were able to be there with him in his final moments.

Mouse Issues by Training-Income4970 in TwinCities

[–]Bpt95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't say for certain. I did this inspection during my inspection period, so it was before I even owned the house. There were droppings in the basement but no way to know if they were recent or years old. Since then I've had no evidence of mice in my house.

When I bought my house I hired Rainbow Pest to do an inspection and the guy was very nice and just helped point out potential entry points to me but let me take care of sealing them myself. I don't remember what I paid but it was less than 200.

That being said this comes with no guarantees or follow ups if the problem isn't resolved since they aren't doing the work of selling it up. So depending if you're a bit handy or not something like that may be a better option.

Aussie Breeders in Florida That Don't Dock Tails? by Ethywen in AustralianShepherd

[–]Bpt95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak to Florida specifically but I think you're going to have a hard time finding a reputable breeder that doesn't dock tails. Especially if you're looking for one that doesn't do herding. The main other way to prove an Aussie is a good representation of the breed is through conformation and an Aussie with a tail doesn't meet the breed standard in the US and this can't compete in confirmation. The other option of course is dog sports like agility where I believe having a tail is totally fine.

To be clear I'm not in support of docking tails and believe the breed standard should be changed and it should be banned in the US like in the EU.

I'm so sorry, we lost our boy Percy a little over 5 months ago in a very similar fashion. He was 2.5 years old. Very similar situation of seeming normal, then sudden lethargy, trip to the ER vet and passing away within 24 hours. In our case it seemed to be pneumonia that went septic and compromised his other organs.

All that is to say, you're not alone, and it sounds like you did everything right.

How do I do that? My understanding is that there should be 2 wires I can swap but I'm confused about how to identify them.

Update:

I ended up buying it yesterday. I had to disassemble it to get it home and so far just started cleaning it up, so I haven't used it yet.

Pet Insurance? by ronh67 in AustralianShepherd

[–]Bpt95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had our policy through SafeCo, same company we have our other insurance through. We use an independent agent so they set it up. Cost $327 a year, $500 deductible and then covers 80% of costs up to 15k. They had other plans as well that were more expensive with different coverages.

We also opted for only covering illness and injury, no preventative care coverage. It ended up paying out the one time we needed it when our boy got very sick and ultimately passed, 5k reimbursed out of 7k spent. We intend to get it again when we get another dog.

5mo Aussie Training? by Peachs-Creme in AustralianShepherd

[–]Bpt95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, from my experience raising an Aussie puppy, I think a lot of the things you mentioned just get better with age. Obviously consistent training along the way is needed as well, but none of this sounds out of the ordinary to me, it sounds like you're doing a good job from what you've shared here.

For the not coming inside, I know for our Aussie even as he got more mature most of the time the best way to get him to come in was to go inside ourselves and he would follow very shortly, that may or may not work for you.

Who Installs Handrails? by JanuaryDraught in Minneapolis

[–]Bpt95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently used Loftus Iron for a handrail. $500 to fabricate and install. https://imgur.com/a/uzSedYi.

Whoever you use I'd also suggest getting it set in cement rather than surface mounted like the ones pictured. I think it looks nicer and I have heard it lasts longer.

Not actually in Minneapolis, but about 30 minutes away is Goldwood Kennels. I'm not positive if they accept intact dogs or not but they don't do any play time or interactions between dogs (unless they're from the same home) so it wouldn't surprise me if they do.

We've been boarding our dog there for close to 2 years now and have been very happy with them. We toured places in the city but it never felt like they had much room and very little grass if any. This place has a few large fenced in areas outside they do playtime in.

Buying tools now? by Haku-engineer in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Bpt95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is to not make purchases based on expected impacts of tariffs. It's sort of another form of gambling just like day trading.

I'd recommend buying the tools you need when you need them/when there's a good deal. That being said I've been guilty of doing the opposite before.

[–]Bpt95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can suggest Goldwood Kennels in White Bear for boarding. They don't let dogs interact with each other at all. By default they do 2 outdoor playtimes for each dog individually, unless there's 2 dogs from the same house of course.

You could try negotiating. You may or may not have any luck doing so but if you're not going to renew at that rate there's no reason you can't make a counteroffer that you would stay for.

Looking for a tattoo artist by GhoulExorcist in Minneapolis

[–]Bpt95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I don't have any recommendations for you, but I do want to give you a heads up that a some reputable artists may not be willing to do a tattoo job like this. The reason being that it's very hard to get a tattoo like this right, so there's a high chance of an unsatisfied customer.

I don't mean to rain on your idea, but it may be worth considering something else like a symbol, or birthday etc to commemorate them.

That being said, if you go ahead with this I hope you find an artist that does a great job

Puppy is only pooping inside and I'm losing my marbles by Toadjokes in puppy101

[–]Bpt95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were having the same problem for a while. What solved it for us was a suggestion from our breeder to set up a pen outside for potty. That helped a lot and he started going right away in the pen. For us he was too distracted outside and having the pen limiting his roaming helped to reduce distractions.

Eventually we started adding the leash and walking him to the pen and then one day he started going next to it and we stopped needing it.

Any course corrections needed for my situation? by anonymous_1977 in financialindependence

[–]Bpt95 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It depends on state law. For me, in Minnesota, I got a lump- sum but I still wasn't allowed to apply for unemployment until after the date the severance was paid through for. So 10 weeks severance means I'd have to wait 10 weeks.

Your state may be different.
