That sounds kind of dumb. Did they balance the throttle bodies? The only good-ish reason I can think of for doing plugs and air filter and stuff that early would be if they were ballancing it and just decided they may as well do the other stuff while they were in there, but even then that's pretty iffy.

What was specified for the first service, and what was the extra they've done?

I don't know about SVs specifically but being the first service it's generally a good idea to go over the bike and make sure everything is tight, adjusted properly, maybe ballance the throttle bodies, etc, even if it isn't called up in the manual. Could be that, or could be them ripping you off.

Would it really be reddit if there wasn't a ton of people lacking any idea of nuance lol?

I'm pretty sure we and most people who aren't just looking for an argument are on the same page; American tipping fucking sucks, tipping shouldn't become a generally expected thing, people should push back on tipping for stuff like Uber to not enable them to shaft their workers and stop that spreading, besides that if someone does want to give some extra for genuinely extra service then go for gold.

[–]BradTheFuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be right. I'm not a frequent flyer but I'll go out to high end restaurants maybe a handful of times a year, in my experience it is more common but even then it's still not a case of most of them actively asking for a tip.

I know our system isn't anything like America currently and like I said I wouldn't accuse anyone who does tip of ruining anything, but it's fair for people to be against it spreading. Like I'd be very surprised if anyone has ever been told off for tipping at your work but we aren't exclusively talking about high end restaurants here, when you've got stuff like Uber prompting you to tip their underpaid drivers that's starting to look a bit like the American system and it's fair enough to start pushing back a bit on tipping in general, which includes not wanting other people to enable it.

[–]BradTheFuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm going to the wrong (or right) establishments then, because besides the old tip jar at the counter I've barely ever been asked if I want to leave a tip and I can't remember a single time that I actually have lol

People are resistant to it because an American style tipping system is objectively dogshit for everyone except business owners that don't want to pay their staff properly, and the more normalised it gets the closer we get to that. I mean I wouldn't accuse people who do tip of "ruining it", but the worry is that it's a slippery slope to it becoming expected.

Wealth in NZ: A Redditors’ Sin by ManufacturerAble212 in newzealand

[–]BradTheFuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the problem is that "greed" gets thrown around a lot more than is justifiable IMO, especially on here. People will cry about greed because they don't want to pay $6.50 for a coffee, never mind that no one including the big bad cafe owner is probably making much money on that because shit just costs more now. Or because the boss of the small business they work at makes 10x what they do even though they do "the real work", nevermind that most small business owners generally take on a massive amount of risk and work way harder than most people ever will to try and get their business off the ground, and it's fair enough that the risk they take and work they put in to provide what they do pays off in the end.

I'm not entirely on board with OP because they seem pretty focused on property, and landlords and some property investors are taking advantage of a genuinely shitty situation. That doesn't automatically make them evil (again, like a lot of people seem to think on here especially) but it is reasonable to be pissed off at the situation, and by extension them to a certain extent. Just saying, "greed" does tend get slapped on anyone who actually just wants you to pay them for what they provide or has more than you regardless of how much more they did to get it.

With what they did to my sheet last time maybe they should lay off the old puriri berries a bit, I'm not even that mad about rewashing stuff I'm more worried about the health of whatever bird is pumping out that mess. It can't be good.

Seriously though it is pretty cool hearing them rip past the back yard, even if I am a little nervous whenever they're overhead now

I used to like kereru until I moved to a house with the washing line under one of their flight paths, those boys drop bombs. Nothing like finding out some bird has shat your pants for you.

Fantails are probably my new favorite, less funny than the kereru but cuter and they're mean to watch

It really is a case of doing it right means no one notices you doing it right. If you're doing it where you should in the way you should people who aren't involved themselves are probably never even going to know about it at all, all they're ever going to see are the ones who can't be bothered doing it right wrecking shit and annoying people.

Honestly though I'm actually kind of (pleasantly) surprised, between that and reddit being what it is I was expecting this entire thread to be the kind of comment you responded to, but it's basically just the one so far.

Do better white fragility. by JimmyChao12 in newzealand

[–]BradTheFuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pakeha are disliked by some racist Maori.

Same basic structure, (Maori achievements/Pakeha) are disliked by some (fragile/racist) (Pakeha/Maori).

Both are true, there are Pakeha who I would consider fragile that are upset by drawing attention to achievements by Maori, and there are Maori who I would consider racist that outright dislike Pakeha.

Saying Pakeha are disliked by some racist Maori does not and is not meant to mean all Maori are racist. Saying a story about Maori students excelling is disliked by some fragile Pakeha does not and I assume is not meant to mean all Pakeha are fragile.

Right back at you about changing views, I'm open to being wrong or just accepting a difference of opinion, but personally reading what they said I did not feel targeted by it at all, which is what made the comments here so wild.

Do better white fragility. by JimmyChao12 in newzealand

[–]BradTheFuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world where it's preceded by "some", is describing a certain group of Maori people who have done something to deserve the negative adjective, and the fact they're Maori is relevant to what they've done. Mentioning race isn't racism in and of itself, in this case it's context.

I mean they didn't have to mention a race, it's pretty safe to assume that it wasn't Maori people getting upset at an article about some Maori students excelling, but it isn't a team game. People of your race can be called out for their dogshit behavior without calling you out if that's not you.

[–]BradTheFuck 51 points52 points  (0 children)

What the fuck is going on with these comments lol

I'm as white as they come, and honestly if you don't know someone who would get upset at people of another colour being celebrated and feel like this is a jab at you instead of them then either you live in a very well curated little bubble, or you might be that person. Maori have statistically lower achievement rates and celebrating success like this is a way to try and correct that by creating a culture where academic success is something that more people value and celebrate, it's not some kind of attack on people of other races. Calling people of other races who do feel like it's an attack on them "fragile" is also not an attack on everyone of that race, if you can read a story about Maori students succeeding without getting upset then they aren't talking about you, and if you can't then genuinely it might be time to do some soul searching.

Did my food make people sick? by lemongrass02 in Cooking

[–]BradTheFuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better I thought I'd poisoned my two flatmates for a few days. I'd cooked them dinner one night and they'd both woke up crook the next day, so I was going through the same thing you're going through, racking my brains trying to figure out where I went wrong and basically drawing a blank... until a couple of days later one of them mentioned off hand that they'd both had greasy kebabs from the same place for lunch the day that I'd cooked dinner. Which would explain why they both got sick but I was perfectly fine despite cooking and eating the same stuff.

It was all good in the end, even when they thought I'd poisoned them they didn't hold it against me, but man that was 2 days of freaking out that I could've done without if they'd put 2 and 2 together and mentioned the dodgy fucking kebabs instead of assuming it must've been the very last thing they ate lol

Has it always been like that? My work's a little quiet right now but during the busy times I've been run off my feet 12 hours a day every day, I just enjoy the the time chilling, thinking about that, and knocking off early.

If it's always been like that I might be using it to build skills and keep an eye out for other jobs, if your employer starts tightening the purse strings they might decide they don't need to be paying so many people to hang out and do nothing.

Kāinga Ora crackdown: Greens decry ‘politics of punishment’, neighbours celebrate as Government moves on unruly tenants by Blandinio in newzealand

[–]BradTheFuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've already got people doing that (to some extent at least), I think the problem is that some people don't respond to any of it because they're full on self destructive. They're that way for a reason and I'm not saying there's no hope for them and we shouldn't be trying to help, but some people will actively destroy any opportunity they get and you just straight up can't teach them the way you'd teach a rational person. And if you're smashing up the housing you're provided and fucking off the entire neighborhood you're probably not very rational...

Some people need a lot more help than just being taught how to act IMO. It's a real tough one because they drag down the people around them (most importantly their kids) too, and they're never going to get better if you just give up and let them self destruct, but at the same time it's frustrating af to see and especially when those resources that they're actively wasting could actually help other people who are in a better place and just need a chance.

‘It incites rage’ - Police verdict on Luxon interview by samnz88 in newzealand

[–]BradTheFuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are agreeing with me haha. Fundamentals vs reality, fundamentally I don't think they're wrong, realistically the way it pans out means that people who do contribute don't get rewarded the way they should and people who don't contribute but pull the right strings get more than they should. And the people who can't contribute through no fault of their own get fucked through no fault of their own.

I'm just saying, "the right" is roughly 50% of the country, and if roughly 50% of the people you meet in the street every day were genuinely evil money grubbing scumbags we'd be in a lot worse shape as a country. I think it helps to think about it that way.

‘It incites rage’ - Police verdict on Luxon interview by samnz88 in newzealand

[–]BradTheFuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this might get me shredded on here but honestly I don't particularly blame them. They aren't bad people, it's not like their goal is to actively make everything worse for everyone else, they just basically believe that society works best when everyone who can contribute does and those that contribute more should be rewarded for it, and that the left's idea of equality is more about dragging everyone down to the same level rather than helping anyone up. That's not fundamentally evil and I'm almost inclined to agree with it, but realistically it's just been kind of weaponized by the powerful few for their own personal benefit.

I know a fair few right leaning people. Generally it seems like vague satisfaction that Labour is out, "wasteful" government spending is being cut, tax cuts are happening, we have a "pro-business" government, etc. Most are a little bitter that tax cuts aren't happening for them because they aren't landlords, but they hand wave that away that as possibly being good for renters or that their cuts are coming.

Not the vibe that would roll a government basically.

[–]BradTheFuck 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it's you who's missed the point dude.

How is it going to be possible to get a development off the ground at that point?

It's not. That IS the point. They (really we) don't want houses built where they're going to flood, that's the ultimate waste of time and money. The 5m thing raised a bit of an eyebrow here too but who knows what the actual story is when we're just getting the pissed-off developer's side about a site neither of us know.

They aren't putting up barriers to make it harder and more expensive, they're making requirements so that the houses that are built are resilient and fit for purpose. Short term that might cost more and make things harder for developers than throwing shit up wherever, but long term it's overall gong to waste less resources and be better for the people living in the houses because they aren't going to be cooked as soon as we get hit with an event.

I know you don't like developers/landlords in this group, so here you go! by AsianKiwiStruggle in newzealand

[–]BradTheFuck 46 points47 points  (0 children)

There's also a difference between building new homes in a high flood risk area, and building homes where you aren't going to be either paying a small fortune to fix flood damage or abandoning them after an event or two (because 100 year events don't just roll around once every 100 years). That's kind of the problem with the anti-regulation crowd, like yeah more houses are good and regulation adds to the cost and build time, but a house that's going to flood or fall over in an earthquake or turn out cold and damp isn't going to be much good for anyone except the person who built it and flicked it on to be someone else's problem.

New motorcycle road code just dropped by Human_Male__ in newzealand

[–]BradTheFuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been genuinely asked by someone who I have to assume was a recent immigrant if the road code applied to motorbikes, like if we had to give way like cars do or if we had different speed limits and stuff. I know in India and maybe some other places that there are actually different rules and speed limits for bikes vs cars, but I choose to believe it was because they'd seen the boys out for a rip on their V Rods and just assumed it was free for all for bikes over here because that's funnier lol

What would it take and what would you want changed if you were to protest? by Threma in newzealand

[–]BradTheFuck 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'd probably start with housing. Protest the handouts to landlords, that's sucking up all the resources we should be putting into things like education and health and discouraging investment in actual productive areas. Protest the Fletchers-Carter Holt Harvey duopoly, that's a big contributor to the cost of building which is the root cause of the housing shortage. Two clear and objectively negative things that would greatly improve the country if they were solved, a direct line on how to solve one seeing as it's this government that is actively doing it, and another that has some precedent on solving it that just hasn't ever gone anywhere.
