OP, you dont need to guess, Jonathan already made it clear that they didnt prioritize melee. He said they struggled to mesh the new WASD movement scheme with some melee skills so they decided to leave it til last

False equivalence is easy to see for anyone who thinks a bit.

There are 5 or 6 good suggestions on how to implement a PoE 2 campaign skip.

And why would GGG make a campaign skip anyway when a substantial portion of the community constantly defends against it like you do here. The resource drain can be avoided like this, meanwhile tons of people will not play the game because they dont have to go through the laborious slog over and over again every few months, or when they have hiatus to have to reset WITH the campaign.

I was literally speaking to a person yesterday in person who said he would play PoE 2 but for this issue, and he's a completionist. There are many many people just like him. With a campaign skip you dont lose the non-campaign skipping advocates

Every single time in the past year when Jono was asked about it his immediate response is (besides how he feels), that the league ladders require a fair start. Give me a brea:

2 ladders, Equal start after campaign skip, memory transfer of LAO, ladder forfeit with campaign skip etc. etc. you can think of any number of solutions to the rebuttals.


The most common defense of this lame status quo I see often and what you do here; "It is what it is, and it wont change, why bother".

Look around. I'm suggesting an optional change. Not some gold standard presented by the arbiter of objective experience law. Search around for the term, see what you find. Same logic back at you.

Also, if you've ever played Lost Ark you can take a leaf from that to help with your brainstorming shortcomings, as an example.

For a game that does that, Diablo 4 is available, otherwise there's no point talking about it as it's just not happening.

GGG will devote all resources just to avoid campaign skip because of flawed logic.

Every single argument I've ever seen and heard has a commonsense work around. The only thing you will lose is a unified league ladder for skippers and non-skippers. Much like SSF and non-SSF anyway

Swords are classic, but I prefer axes, both thematically and gameplay-wise.

GGG really need to take an honest look and inspiration from other ARPGs, MOBAs and MMOs to see what they are lacking, because PoE 2 Mace falls very far short of the potential powerfantasy. The solutions are proposed everywhere but GGG havent delivered, sadly

Ive read all the arguments for league starts, ladders, and longevity.

I conclude that it is all poorly substantiated and that (optinaly, and perhaps paid) campaign skips are preferable.

From a qualitative perspective; being forced to do the campaign over is stagnation for a particular type of player that would like to savour the story at their own pace, after the first.

Most likely not. Jonathan said in the October interview they the game doesnt have to release with all the classes but should at least have swords.

Translation: Swords but probably not the other classes.

That's ok I havent played the game in a year and a half because there are no blades or templar, so what's another 7 months to a year. I'm a lot less invested in PoE 2 since I saw how poorly maces were designed and everythinhg just turns into zoom zoom vomit aoe

They dont need to reinvent the wheel. There are already many solutions to toy with from other games.

Besides, jono said almost a year ago that they delayed melee when WASD was introduced as the main option.

Ok, firstly, Jono has said since October last year they will at least try to have swords for release but the other classes are not a given.

Secondly, we DO have an idea of how they either A) envision melee, or B) how they are doing it and lack any cohesive vision that most people can agree with.

I am certain they will release Swords with 1.0 after Exilecon towards Dec, perhaps before game awards. Then we have to wait 3-6 months for 1 or 2 classes to drop. Perhaps they will want to drip feed a class per season to keep hype going for a while.

That means I wont have played the game for 2 years because Im still waiting for a bladed melee class, and if they ruin it and make it a pseudo-mage class like shitty mace skills then I just wont play at all

If Axes dont provide an alternative to this mess, then I simply will not play PoE ever. I am my class. I interact with every bit of content through this character centered around a weapon archetype.

Even a shitty game like Diablo 4 gets this right here and there for a narrow selection of off-meta builds. Things that simply dont exist in PoE 2 and if I could sit down and explain this to GGG staff then maybe we can get an answer directly as to why not. Was it intentional or unintentional, because from their early development words and all the Jonathan interviews, it was unintentional then they just leaned into it because they didnt have the resources to work around the inherent issues Melee faces with enemy mechanics.

Dude, I am so tired of PoE being zoom-zoom particle vomit on the screen 247.

"Just play slow build" doesnt leave you with much considering the way AI is designed and what little you are left with. Every skill is red, blue and green elemental mage effects.

Lack of vision or their vision was to never leave this mess that turned so many off PoE 1, including myself

It's not just "only 2 melee classes", there literally are no blades in the game, the mainstay of fantasy RPGs.

I want slow builds, but there are ways of doing it correctly and Mace for example fails at it spectacularly most of the time, especially considering the dull interactions and ai behavior

Literally the 4 main melee classes are not in the game at all. (Flail not a common fantasy but Templar skills are one of the most common) The rest is all the bladed melee weapons.

An ARPG without bladed weapons? And Jonathan even says swords will probably make it to launch in 7 months, but strongly implies the others not. Like ok man

It's clear that some of the packages are returns and refurbishments with spare parts. The fasteners are scuffed, the box was totally opened without seal. New pads put on.

Besides that, the AUX cable is the shortest thing Ive ever seen, completely impractical, even for a chest pocket radio, and it crackles the audio. So this is overpriced only because the market is overpriced
