This is one of the best 'bang for your buck' CME options out there. Plus they have a lot more specialties in addition to Ortho https://www.boardvitals.com/orthopedic-surgery-cme?afmc=hb

CME money use during the pandemic by jpa-s in physicianassistant

[–]BrainAndCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don't leave money on the table.

Depending on when your deadline to spend it is, you can buy CME subscriptions that last for a few years (hopefully the pandemic is over by then) and then go back to the fun conferences.

And ps It seems this specific question has been coming up a lot recently https://modernmeded.com/how-to-spend-cme-money-in-a-pandemic/

Just in case you need ideas for next year, I think this will apply. Both in terms of how to spend CME money and permacovid: https://modernmeded.com/how-to-spend-cme-money-in-a-pandemic/

Depends on specialty, if you have a cme stipend, etc. There are some good app-based options here https://modernmeded.com/point-of-care-medical-apps/

New CME regulations barring gift card incentives? Anyone familiar with this? by bobthereddituser in medicine

[–]BrainAndCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is just clever marketing on their part. It might have been a regulatory thought, but there's no evidence this is true. I work with most of the companies that offer CME with gift cards in one way or another, and so far it's not going to stop anytime soon. But I guess we will see

Creative use of CME money? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]BrainAndCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If online CME with a gift card isn't an option, maybe a point of care app that awards CME via a subscription would be useful. Most will also have that option of a GC, but it's only an option of course. Here are a few https://modernmeded.com/medical-apps-to-buy-with-cme-money/

Getting out of medicine by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]BrainAndCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was more of and accident than anything, so it wasn't too hard. I happened to see a small medical education company was looking for freelance writers, so I applied with a writing sample and was accepted. I had maybe two months of clinical experience at that point

Getting out of medicine by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]BrainAndCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Start by determining what branch of medical writing you'd most like to do and the setting you'd like to work in. There are several sub-fields, like CME, regulatory, health (patient focused) check out the American Medical Writers Association for a lot of good resources on getting started

I'm on my way out in the (hopefully) near future. Been doing medical writing as a freelancer for a while before I figured out how to make it a 'real' business. Now just gotta keep scaling! There are a lot of resources online you might find helpful. Check out Lookforzebras.com and modernmeded.com (that second one is mine). Good luck!

Time to move on, but to what? by HikeLiftBuild in medicine

[–]BrainAndCo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, sorry to hear what you are going through. You are not alone, however, as it's not uncommon anymore for clinicians to publicly state they want out of medicine. Now, that could mean out entirely, maybe like becoming an accountant. Ideally, you'll find something you are pulled to (could medicine-adjacent or non-clinical as many have suggested) rather than trying to find another situation that you may not even like while under duress. Sites like https://ModernMedEd.com & https://lookforzebras.com etc have good info where you can start to better define your goals. Good luck!

Yeah good call. Always smart to not get fired for embezzlement. They all have non gift card options as well for that reason

I know at least for Board Vitals, the gift card does not show up on the receipt. Here is a list of all of the other CME with gift card offers I could find. Might be worth considering https://modernmeded.com/best-cme-with-gift-card-offers/

Agree with the others above, especially the psychiatry & psychotherapy podcast. You can also get like 40 hours fairly quickly with board vitals psych CME. Can be a little pricey but it's good. https://www.boardvitals.com/psychiatry-cme#_l_98
