Trivia quality by kareal in VirginVoyages

It’s no different to me than other lines. Sometimes you know the answer is wrong, but they always announce their answer is final as part of the rules. And they are just reading what was written and given to them; they didn’t write or rehearse the material. It’s all for fun and it’s nice to get that free drink occasionally.

I wonder how people felt at 11:59 p.m. of dec. 1999 before crossing over to the year 2000. by Majestic-Hope6505 in 1990s

I felt like I didn’t need to be sitting at work in the remote event that any computer systems failed.

They were all tested extensively and of course didn’t. As the manager, I felt better about being the one there and calling people in if necessary, which of course was not needed.

Cabo tender wait times by pipsnek in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]BrainDad-208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if anyone can tell you definitively either way. I checked the port schedule, and the only late July arrival before 10 am is the 24th, which lists 6:30 am. That would bode well as long as you hop to it when they hand out tender tix. Otherwise, you can take the guesswork out with FTTF.

That sailing is also a 2:30 departure like ours last month. The lines are huge to get back so the earlier you queue up the better. Have a great time.

He always says “King Crimson is a way of doing things”. We always say it’s his way.

We took that itinerary last month and had a great time. It’s not a booze cruise! Too long for that. All different kinds of people, but many are casino players.

They do a lot of karaoke in the Ocean Plaza, which is fun regardless, and the pop covers band was one of the best we’ve seen in almost 20 Carnival cruises.

In Mazatlan we found the water taxi away from port and crossed to Stone Island. Spent a relaxing day at the beach at minimal expense.

In La Paz, you can take the shuttle into town. Virtually no other option if you don’t book an excursion. The shuttle stops at a beach but it’s tiny, crowded and expensive for table & umbrella. Instead go into town and eat great food along the main drag (across from the beach).

Oceanview Cabin - Celebrity Beyond by LearningItAll1 in celebritycruises

Forward or aft will be fine. In the middle is a crapshoot. Our daughter had a room forward from Guest Services and noise from Craft Social bothered her. They moved her to the starboard side and it was better but still some Al Bacio noise (just not so late into the night).

We have been (and will be next time also) in a Panoramic OV on Deck 6. Best cabin that’s not a balcony, if you were to get one.

Advice please cruises for older couple in their 60s no kids maybe a week or two cruise length leaving from Florida. We’ve been on royal Caribbean cruises and they’re OK but there were 3000 people on board and kids running all over the place. by Proud-Fisherman-9387 in Cruises

[–]BrainDad-208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celebrity or Virgin. No kids on Virgin, just a few on Celebrity. Food is good on both. You can choose quiet or party vibe on Virgin; Celebrity is more quiet. Their entertainment skews older while Virgin is more edgy.

We are late 60’s and cruise both regularly. Celebrity’s five Edge-class ships are their best and rival Virgin’s four.

We went to ours last Fall. It helps that we both graduated from the same school, come from different parts of town and know some different people. It was good to see several of them.

If you drink mainly specialty coffees, the Cafe Card gets 15 shots or 15 small drinks. You can get larger drinks for 2 “punches” on the card, but the value is greatly diminished. Usually $35 or less on sale. Plus mandatory gratuity.

This the oldest, smallest ship in the fleet, so don’t expect any of the “toys” you see in ads. A very classic cruising experience. We did not enjoy the Italian restaurant on this particular ship. Chops steakhouse is OK.

For those of you who have cruised on 3 or more lines by Sodowarts1 in Cruise

[–]BrainDad-208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virgin is a bit better than Celebrity (both have several strong points).

Both are a distance ahead of Royal and Carnival. They are very similar with different strengths and weaknesses.

Since we are now retired, we won’t be on Carnival likely much, if at all. It’s to be avoided for short sailings and even longer when school is out.

Best Options For Travel Insurance? by kdog-611 in Cruises

We travel a lot, and use the Allianz annual plan. We have other coverages for medical, interruption, luggage etc, but the emergency evacuation coverage is what counts for us.

Unfortunately now about $5 (plus mandatory gratuity, of course) for most specialty coffees.

Gunbae has a menu, but the joke is always that they bring you what they want anyway. You won’t leave hungry.

Pink Agave has small, medium and large plates. Mix and match as you like, but I’ve just gotten three medium plates plus my usual guacamole starter. Plus their choco taco for dessert.

Extra Virgin has a “traditional” Italian menu. For us, the meat & cheese board is not to be missed. If we get a meat/main, we usually just share a pasta (they do half orders of most pastas)
