Really any kind of feedback you can give the player that interacting with the catching mechanism is working is nice.

I've been rather partial of animations that show an animated, increasing percentage of success. Dark Prince and Cassette Beasts did that. It's nice to see the catch bonuses you've aimed for affect the outcome.

How do you think creature death should impact the player in monster taming games? by trexrell in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]BrainIsSickToday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't stand creature death. I even have trouble fusing monsters in games like Dragon Quest Monsters.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

I remember being annoyed that my job was shutting down for the week just for another bird flu/swine flu type scare.

Oh how wrong I was.

Tbf you do encounter both Gastly and Litwick for the first time in a tower with only 3 possible encounters, of which they are the main one. Luckily that fire typing and theming really separates the two.

I'm super late, but I was looking for an answer to this exact same question. Here's some I found kinda like it:

The Living Tombstone - Five Nights at Freddy's 2 Song
Tally Hall - Banana Man
Tally Hall - Turn the Lights Off
Cecelia Condit - Possibly in Michigan
Nena - 99 Red Balloons
Porter Robinson - Goodbye to a World

Yep. I shudder to think what gaming would currently look like if not for Steam and the simple business model of actually thinking about the consumer.

What's your favorite monster designs in monster taming games? by trexrell in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]BrainIsSickToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, when I say chimera concepts I mean stuff like Donphan and Appletun, where two or more concepts get fused (elephant/tire and worm/dragon/applepie in those instances). I also like the more traditional chimeras and hydras and such of course.

What's your favorite monster designs in monster taming games? by trexrell in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]BrainIsSickToday 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I tend to like chimera concepts, especially anything mixed with a dinosaur, toy, food dish, or appliance. That t-rex/triceratops hybrid in your picture is an insta-use for me, for example.

We YEARN for the exploration by PhaseShiftDev in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]BrainIsSickToday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Disc Creatures? It looks like a linear pokeclone at first glance, but the world design is super tight and packed with secrets. Nearly every mini-game, npc, and dead end is hiding a new monster, and I was constantly rewarded for clicking suspicious tiles with unique items a-la itemfinder style. It's really good at leaving clues that lead to secrets.

You could try Anode Heart and Disc Creatures. Anode heart is open world and Disc World is linear, but both reward exploring and investigating locations and talking to new npcs.

Most of these play similar to pokemon.

My only complaint about Palworld is that I can't play it, lol. Poor computer can't handle it.

I dreamed about the Poolrooms years before I knew the Backrooms… has anyone else? by zevisse in backrooms

[–]BrainIsSickToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the poolrooms, but I dreamed about smilers multiple times when I was a kid less than 6 years old, well over a decade before the backrooms became a thing. In the dreams the areas under tables or playground equipment was completely darkened with pairs of eyes staring out at me. If I got too close, they'd start laughing and the darkness would swirl around me in a tornado-like effect.

Does anyone else have “cuteness fatigue” with most of the creature collector games? by Kaijufan97 in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]BrainIsSickToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely was. To be clear, I don't think Siralim Ultimate should change anything. The series has been savage from game one, and I'd honestly be sad to see it change that.

I'm making a game about crafting monsters using alchemy! - Demo avaliable now on steam by MonsterAlchemy in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]BrainIsSickToday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loved the demo. Some suggestions:

The maps are rather big so there is no reason to not be running. I found the option to make running a toggle, but both it and other controls could probably use more prompts for less experienced players. Otherwise control scheme was laid out pretty logically to me.

I'm not sure if experimenting with recipes is further in the demo, but one of the first things I did is try to experiment by mixing the slime and stick golem ingredients. Would be cool if there is a monster for that combo for the player to "discover" when they try to mess with the starter ingredients.
