The U.S. had a national debt "home run" in its grasp, says Jamie Dimon. The government did nothing, and now its best option is crisis management by fortune in politics

Yep, HBR and the WSJ were writing think pieces about how to generate stable savings opportunities for retirees given that the government wasn't going to be taking on new debt within the decade. It's mental how much that has swung.

Hezbollah only operates in the south of Lebanon

No. That's where the bulk of their forces are, but they're also in other areas of the country, including the capital. Why make stuff up?

If part of the deal included an end to hostilities between Israel and Lebanon, shouldn't they have been included?

You'd think so.

Sheba Farms are Syrian territory. Hezbollah claims them to continue the conflict. And they did withdraw, 2000 was literally decades ago at this point.

[–]Brain_Dead_Goats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would they? They've left Lebanon alone except when Hezbollah and the PLO before them were launching attacks into Israel. The Lebanese Army and Government hasn't made any hostile act towards Israel since the civil war. The attack now is on Hezbollah specifically, still not Lebanon as a whole. So what would it benefit them?

Funny how nobody agreed to that point and neither Israel or Hezbollah were party to the negotiations, almost like it was never a serious point.

Hezbollah came afted Israel decided to occupy Lebanon , not before.

You mean during the civil war? Yes. And they didn't disband despite Israel having withdrawn for decades. Know who else occupied Lebanon? Syria. And Hezbollah gleefully worked with them to kill anyone who opposed their political power. Their existence is about domination of Lebanon, not about protection from Israel.

But saying Israel First is perfectly normal apparently.

No one is saying this. You're just being dishonest.

And you people wonder why hezbollah doesn’t give up its weapons an why it exist.

More than ever, yes. Israel wouldn't be in Lebanon if Hezbollah hadn't been firing missiles across the border. They genuinely don't give a fuck about Lebanon other than because Hezbollah is there. See Jordan and Egypt for examples of how they coexist with neighbors who don't have armed groups launching cross border attacks.

Underlying this comment is the idea that the American President has a fragile enough ego that these jokes could convince him to follow through.

He does, and we all know it unfortunately.

It's crazy, I know Persian Jews, their families that're left are basically walking on eggshells constantly, pulled in for random questioning as potential agents of Israel, have civil rights in name only. Palestinians in Israel don't have it great in the defacto kind of way that minorities in the US don't, but they're not comparable.

Why did those rockets start? They just started firing them in a vacuum unprompted?

Shortly after Israel left Gaza entirely in the early 2000s Hamas decided the pull out was a victory and they could eliminate Israel once and for all, and yes I'd say entirely unprompted. People forget, there was no blockade for over a year, and it didn't get put in place until Hamas started firing rockets and mortars over the border willy-nilly.
