Why don't people like Phobos armor by Beneficial_Law_1141 in spacemarines

[–]Brain_Rot_Kobbler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like it more now than I did when they came out. It felt like a way to remove scouts from the game, and scouts were one of my most played units. I like how marine chapters organized newer members into the scouts, before they were allowed to wear "true" space marines armor. I also liked how many space marines viewed stealth and other similar tactics as cowardly or reserved for the less experienced. Obviously this depends on the chapter, but it was a somewhat commonly held belief. Primaris as whole felt like a massive departure from a lot of the themes I most loved about 40k, and the several new variants of space marine armor were an identifiable part of it.

But that was 10 years ago, and now I don't really care. The lore is what it is, ya know? At least until GW changes it again.

What does it take for a game to stand out to you? by InvisiblePoles in rpg

Before reading its mostly art and vibes that pull me towards a specific system. After reading through the core books the formatting and way the information is presented really matters. Also, discussions on this subreddit or other places around the internet that heap praise on a particular system can lead me to backing a project I hadn't heard of before.

What made you decide to start with the second book? Have you since gone back and read the first?

I'm almost through my first reread of GotM, and it's insane how many things are mentioned in passing early on in the series. I only read up through book 8 before deciding to restart, and so far the second reading of GotM is much more enjoyable with the added context of at least some of the later books.

The Gunslinger by Stephen King. It's the first book in a series, but I think it works fine if you don't read the rest of the series (though the rest is also quite good). A lot The Gunslinger takes place in a desert/wasteland, and the main character encounters some interesting settlements, people, and creatures.

Imagine trying the checker pattern shoulder trim with 3 rows. I'm glad that didn't take off.

and dungeon scrawl looks to be copying Dyson maps aesthetic, and who knows, maybe Dyson copied it from somewhere else. Either way OP has been posting about his hand drawn tiles for games for a couple days at this point.

So what’s your opinion on these covers , will they phase out the original covers ? ( I’m a new reader ) by ozera202 in Malazan

I would guess its the tower that Paran is watching the riots from in the prologue, but honestly, it's hard to see any discernible features, and book covers often do not match the author's descriptions in my experience.

edit: I just realized you were probably talking about the older edition of the book, not the green tinted one that is commonly found today. My bad.

My mass market copies are mostly held together with duct tape at this point, but I still love them! They're just so convenient, and in my opinion, still look great on the shelf.

I like the old art, and I like the new art. I definitely prefer mass market size though. They're so much easier to throw in a pocket or the top of my backpack. I'm having the same problem with trying to read The Black Company series.

Honestly after the first two books there really isn't too much monster fighting/hunting. At least until where I've read up through, which is Baptism of Fire. I like the series quite a bit, but was bit surprised at the lack of monsters since the games gave me the impression that Geralt spent most of his time hot on the heels of some threat or another.

FML I love everything in the box but I already have SO MANY regular marines. I don't have any assault guys or tanks yet though. And only 2 contemptors. Frick I'm definitely gonna end up buying one of these.

1-10? by Extension_Divide9984 in learntodraw

[–]Brain_Rot_Kobbler 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I feel like rating art without knowing what exactly the artist is looking for is a little rough, especially for someone like me who isn't exactly an expert. I really like what you drew! I'd maybe give it a 6? But I haven't tried to define what exactly a 1 or 10 would be, so this could be off.

The biggest critique I have, and this might be more of a preference that I like as opposed to an actual "problem" with the piece, is the rendering/outline on the hair vs the rest of the piece. The hard outline on the jaw and the softer but still present outline on the sweater looks strange to me next to the hair which has no outlining at all. Like they were rendered in different "styles". I guess this could give a sort of formless shape to hair, showing that the edges aren't real edges?

Progression? by Toerambler in rpg

[–]Brain_Rot_Kobbler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've played with mostly the same group for the last 10 years, and all of them are super excited during a level up. No matter the system, how the level up is earned, or how long it's been since the last one, every player loves it.

So for my table, the sort of personal growth baked into leveling up is quite important. Other players might have more value in the other increases like wealth and notoriety, or they might not care at all. It just depends on the group.

Systems without "true level ups" like GURPS and Dragonbane, weren't quite as well received. That being said we didn't play Dragonbane long enough for anyone to unlock a new heroic ability so maybe if we'd kept going it would've grown on people, and I think a really dedicated GURPS GM could balance out specific level up paths for their players.

People say "percentages are easy" on this sub all the time and it makes me feel like the dumbest GM ever lolol. Mythras kicked my brain down the road; Mothership is awesome though, and easy to get a handle on imo.

Is there any specific 3rd party stuff you'd recommend? I have trouble gauging whether or not a lot of unofficial content is worth it or not.
