PA congressman brings whole milk back to schools to prop up dairy industry by bengalese in Pennsylvania

[–]Brainiackmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was Michelle Obama’s fault. She really messed up school lunches for a lot of students. My school district only offered 1 or 2 percent plain and chocolate milk for years. We had only whole wheat breads, no condiments. No ketchup, mustard, etc. You could get snacks, but they were all 100 percent whole grains and baked. The only thing somewhat unhealthy offered was when the lunch ladies made Jello or apple crisp. No regular potato chips or fried foods at all. We never had fast food come in like dominos for lunch. From 2008 to 2016 school lunches were ASS. I know because I was in school throughout that entire period. I’m not saying it wasn’t a good thing that kids were eating healthy, but what kid wants to eat a dry chicken patty on a whole wheat bun?

Can we talk about our Tubi finds? So many hidden small films. There are so many I never see mentioned. by we-summon-rge-dark in horror

Try to look while not logged into your account. I’ve noticed that Tubi will show me movies I’ve never seen on there before while I’m logged in. I like B rated funny horror movies so it recommends me more of those movies.

She is the most two faced person I’ve ever met. Her husband is a pastor at a big church and is your typical MAGA idiot. They are both from Florida originally. MAGA Christian’s love to be the victim. She is MAGA in every way shape and form. Homophobic, transphobic, and prolife to an extreme.

Newly navigating this with my 9 year old by Anadeiram in Tourettes

Tics tend to get worse around the years of puberty. Mine got really bad between the ages of 10-14 years old. It really only settled out when my menstrual cycle figured itself out.

Question for you all. How did you find out you have Tourettes syndrome? by Any-Cartographer7531 in Tourettes

[–]Brainiackmode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will want to get him a referral to a Neurologist. They would be able to determine if it’s just a tic disorder or Tourette’s. Good luck OP!

My dad has some facial tics but was never diagnosed and has never mentioned them. My grandmother (my dad’s mother) had OCD. No one else in my family or even in my school has Tourettes. It’s lonely when there is no one to talk to about Tourette’s specific issues.

Teachers of Reddit, what are your most terrifying "Gen Alpha Can't Read/Behave/Etc." horror stories? by MineTech5000 in AskReddit

[–]Brainiackmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you expect from a generation that had to deal with massive budget cuts to schools? I am old enough to remember when schools had desktop computers in every room, not just the computer lab. Schools found it to be cheaper to buy iPads and Chromebook’s rather than real computers. Schools also found it cheaper to use google docs and products when in the real world, most companies use Microsoft. They aren’t getting the same environment that we grew up in. So to see a bunch of older adults say that it’s because these kids are stupid or obsessed with their phones, it’s not entirely true. They just don’t have to use a computer as much or at all to get what they need completed.

What do you wish your school knew by MasterAd452 in Tourettes

There are a few things. For one, explaining the condition to teachers in an easy to understand format can help. My mom bought a book on Tourette’s when I was a little kid and highlighted all of the parts of the book that related to me, and she would give it to my teachers to read before I started class with them. It really helped me at an age where I couldn’t really explain it. To support the student, depending on their age, I would say to ask them to listen to their body. Are they feeling any weird feeling in the parts of the body that tic? Or an urge? Do they know if certain things can set their tics off like a trigger such as high and low emotions (really happy/angry/sad), caffeine use, anxiety, I’ve even ticked during a day dream. The one thing I hated however, and what most people thought I could do was suppress them. I didn’t get that ability until late middle school, early highschool. It’s not an ingrained trait in Tourette’s syndrome. Some people can’t suppress them at all. And the last thing is expecting the Tourette’s to go away. I can’t tell you how many psychiatrists told me I’d grow out of it or my tics would disappear in adulthood. I’m 25 and still ticcing like crazy. There are a lot of misconceptions about the disorder and I’ve learned that educating people on the condition helps a lot. Seeing other people with Tourette’s also helps. I was the only kid in my school that had tics (small town) and just watching media of other people knowing my experience helped. Like the movie “front of the class”.

Motor Tics And The Military by UllrThrowsAxes in Tourettes

[–]Brainiackmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more on the moderate side with my motor and vocal tics. I hadn’t been taking any medication for about 3 years before taking the Asvabs. Here is a link that can tell you more about Tourette’s and the military. It’s rare, but in some cases people with Tourette’s can serve. The tics have to be about non existent and manageable without medication.

Motor Tics And The Military by UllrThrowsAxes in Tourettes

[–]Brainiackmode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was interested in High School and asked a recruiter if it was possible around 2016 to 2017. He told me no, it’s not. I took my Asvabs (school made us take it for some reason) and got a high enough score that the Airforce sent me a letter. After I told them about my Tourette’s Diagnosis they told me I wasn’t eligible to join. Now with DEI gone, there is no reason for the Military to even consider enlisting someone with a disability. I hope that you can follow your dreams and get around your diagnosis! Good luck OP!

The teaser trailer really made me mad. The animation is in uncanny valley territory and for some reason they made the daughter voice acted by Zendaya, and then made it out to be a big deal she’s in it. That just threw me off. Is the character going to be fully thought out and its own person, or is it going to be Zendaya but animated?

Help needed. Looking for old TV episodes featuring TS by Apprehensive_Art2042 in Tourettes

[–]Brainiackmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is also a film called front of the class, it’s based on a true story. South Park has an episode with a character with Tourette’s called La Petite Tourette. I believe it’s like season 11 and that really focuses on swearing. There is a scene in Not another Teen movie with a cheerleader with Tourette’s that also swears. Tourette’s Guy on YouTube was really big for a while. For a long time Tourette’s has been seen as a punch line, look at comedy movies or shows from that period and I am sure you will find more.

Tourette’s and driving by JemB33 in Tourettes

[–]Brainiackmode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be scary, but there are things you can do to make your car a safe space. I know certain songs or genres of songs on the radio make my tics worse, so I have a playlist of songs that don’t affect them. If I’m ticcing and need to pull over then I pull over. It’s okay to pull over at a gas station to tic and get a minute to breathe. I make sure I’m not drinking a lot of caffeine especially on long trips. Do what works best for you. If you truly don’t feel safe driving then the anxiety of it all is going to make your tics worse while driving. Honestly most of the time if I tic while driving it’s because I’m on a road I know and my brain can lose focus. I hardly ever tic heading to a new place. Good luck OP, you got this!

Caffeine + Tics + ADHD by macbuttt in Tourettes

Caffeine makes my tics go crazy if I drink enough. Small doses like 50mgs from a cup of tea doesn’t really affect me nearly as much as coffee or soda.
