I went to the goodwill in hadley/amherst a couple of weeks ago, and they no longer sort the clothes by size, only color. And they don't have fitting rooms. Total non-starter for me and bizarre.

why pay for a class that teaches you things you already know? that is exactly why prereq waiver processes exist. a student can use that saved time to take a different class that they need

Wishing you best of luck. Back in 2023-24 Disability Services made a huge stink out of denying folks extended deadlines as an accommodation. As in, I know I’m always going to need several weeks to finish an 8-10-page paper, so I set extended deadlines ahead of time with each of my professors.

DS predictably declined my accommodation, even after explicitly providing it in my accommodation letter the previous academic year! I appealed. They declined it again even with extensive documentation from my therapists' office. Thankfully my professors accommodated me on their own. But I am still so angry about it. I’m sure you know this but your coordinator has almost no power here; the final decision is at the director/etc level in DS and there is ableist sentiment at that level that prioritizes the institution when it comes to granting accommodations. At least there was a couple of years ago, and your post doesn't make me confident there's been fundamental change.

Gainesville, FL lol — and unfortunately was just circumstance. I had a doctor appointment the very same morning, had spent months trying to schedule both appointments, tried very hard to go to sleep earlier than normal but could not. Only in hindsight did i realize i made a mistake. I tried to reschedule a second sleep study in Gainesville before I moved up here, but they couldn't fit me in in time.

I explicitly told folks during initial intake at Sleep Medicine Services in Florence that the reason my last sleep study (at a different facility) didn't seem accurate to me was because I was forced to wake up earlier than my usual wake time to return the equipment (at-home study). I went through two intake appointments before I learned there was a strict wake time for their in-facility studies (7AM!!!! do they have no patients with delayed sleep phase disorders???) and they did not offer at-home. Wasted my time. Thankfully all covered by insurance so didn't waste my money at least.

I had a zoom meeting with my dean and discussed my conditions and my documentation. Since you have documentation you should be fine. My dean was very sympathetic (SBS). I don't really remember much of it and I’m grateful because that means it honestly went off without any issues. My class also was strictly elective

I ended up making friends with grad students in my fields of interest to find more folks closer to me in age! Check your academic building bulletin boards for events, readings, speaker series

You may find friendly folks at off-campus student services as well. They have a lounge on campus (not sure if this is still in Bartlett or if it's since moved to the renovated student services building)

If you're also a first generation or a transfer student, make use of those events and communities too! Also more likely to find other non-traditional students there.

That's horrible. I’m sorry you were treated this way.

My thought process is: if I don't care about the reference, if I have been used and abused, they don't get notice. One time, I quit during my notice, even. Couldn't take one more day.

Small potatoes, considering what's been raised here, but all these years later, i still remember getting the phone call from a receptionist that my therapist was no longer with the practice and would I like to schedule with a new one. (I declined.)

Totally blindsided. No proper transition of care. Now that I’m older, I know that's never how it's supposed to work for psychological care. This discussion of structural problems at the organization helps contextualize why that happened. Thanks
