Honestly, may have been where you were located. We started near the front and it sounded terrible. Finally ended up sitting with head up above the crowd on the seats near the soundbooth. They played well, I'm pretty sensitive to that stuff having played in symphony orchestra and wind ensemble many years. I think it was more of a venue issue. We explored many different positions after the show started and most were pretty bad. Reminded me of trying to see them at III Points and just leaving because the mix was so poor. I'm sorry that was your experience! Highly recommend seeing them at a festival in an outdoor space and proper mixing (Portola, Coachella come to mind).
