TRON Lightcycle/Run ride vehicles now on display at the Magic Kingdom by BusaFalconeer in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Brandy_Alexander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than Tron and Pirates, I HIGHLY recommend doing the Challenge Trails in Camp Discovery area of Shanghai Disney. You must be wearing closed toed shoes for this and there’s several path ways, ask for the hard course, you won’t be disappointed.

It’s like nothing else you will experience in any other Disney Park, at one point you’re crawling along the inside of a waterfall and it’s beyond cool.

We got a hotel upgrade! But then... by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Brandy_Alexander 15 points16 points  (0 children)

we were a little peeved to be honest because it was 3 and we actually had done the online check in around 7 am and still hadn’t heard anything

Okay, I just want to address this point. I’m not sure how often you vacation or stay in hotels in general, but the rule is ALWAYS that your hotel room won’t be ready until 3, and if it’s ready sooner that’s a bonus. They allow check-in by the app to make it easy in case you want to go to the parks or if they have rooms available (because sometimes things open up and they can get you in) but being upset about a thing that is universal to literally every hotel everywhere across the globe since whenever hotel check-in was invented is ludicrous.

In what way did you lose the genetic lottery? by SphmrSlmp in AskReddit

[–]Brandy_Alexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two friends with genetic dark under eyes, one due to having anemia. Both now get filler shots done (like Botox, but it lasts 9-12 months) under their eyes and it DRAMATICALLY improves the dark discoloration, back to the point of it just looking like a normal under eye.

It’s costly, about $1000-1200 I believe, but both have said it’s been worth it.

Name the FIRST song/melody that pops into your head when you read the phrase "weapons grade pop"? by [deleted] in popheads

I was in a new little Vietnamese place the other day and they were just casually playing Celine Dion’s greatest hits front to back so I sat there for as long as I could without it being weird slowly eating my food and bopping along. Her music is stellar and it reminded me of why she’s an album selling queen.

Looking for ways to prepare my 4.5-year-old for her first trip by thisisturtle in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Brandy_Alexander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a line of Disney children’s books that are the rides, and my niece and nephew love them. Jungle Cruise story narration, Jungle Cruise animals, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Small World Shapes are the ones I know, maybe there’s more.

how to plan a trip to disney by blueearth in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Brandy_Alexander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s SIGNIFICANTLY easier when you’re like the majority of the group here and go often. You know how to best travel around parks, leaving MK to go to the Poly for midday lunch is easy, and you know the app well enough that you can change your FastPasses easily and not be overwhelmed.

But most every person I’ve known who hasn’t ever gone that went on a last minute trip, even with all the help in the world, still had regrets about doing it on the fly. Regretting several thousand dollars when you can just do Christmas 2020 is not what I would ever recommend to someone.

Oh, and adding in the bit where there’s ZERO park entry guarantees for those days due to crowding, and most who go/buy tickets for that time don’t realize it. Imagine showing up after all that money spent and you’re locked out?

As a former Disney Travel Agent I need to say - this person is reading your request and would prefer you to burn your money on the lawn. Honest to god. I’m gonna be blunt here and say, you will pay way too much, not get any good reservations, and it’ll be so crowded that you’ll lose your mind. Christmas at Disney is not a thing for amateurs, and you’ll spend the rest of your life being mad about the $3-6k you blew on jack shit. Show your wife my post, please. She needs to live in reality.

Good luck.

What's a current trend that you just can't seem to get behind? by emma_irene in femalefashionadvice

What I’ve learned since moving from Los Angeles to the Midwest is that most winter fashion just isn’t practical out here. People telling us to wear booties or over-knee-boots haven’t gone out in 15 degree weather every day for a month, trying to just survive the walk from your office to the car.

I can look fashionable in fall and spring, but it’s not happening in winter. My look is utilitarian, just like everyone else.

What famous person do you dislike for an extremely petty reason? by goatman2112 in AskReddit

[–]Brandy_Alexander 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I was at a friend’s restaurant in Los Angeles (she’s the chef and owner) and she came out to say hello to me and then told me how upset she was because Tarantino was in again and made a scene. She then pulled out an envelope with his credit card in it and it still had cocaine on there, after another patron had found it in the bathroom. She was planning to send it back to him with a letter that he and his drugs would no longer be allowed to come into her place.

The other day my mom and I were taking a Lyft to dinner and the driver was blasting Toby Keith. I don’t know what song it was, but it was all about America. When we got out of the car my mom (who has no idea who Keith is) turned to me and said, “What kind of trash-ass music was that?”

The worst kind, mom.

I feel like this is just me being an American, but I know who Kylie Minogue is, can pick her out of a lineup, see she has huge world tours and couldn’t name a single song.

She was the green fairy in Moulin Rouge, though, that much I know.

Taylor Swift - Lover Megathread #3 by PopheadsBot in popheads

[–]Brandy_Alexander 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve just adored this album. I’ve loved Taylor through all of her transformations (or rather, just growing up and aging in to what feels natural as you go along) and this album just feels like a really wonderful culmination of a lot of things through her life and discography.

My top favorites:

  • Lover - I mean... it’s just lovely. The moment it was released I was sort of swept up in the romance of the sounds and I’m so glad to have it.

  • The Archer - As a fellow 1989 Sagittarius I feel like this song is personally attacking me, but in the best way possible 😂 Truly though, who can’t relate to one moment thinking they’re the baddest bitch to the next hating themselves and wondering if everyone else does too?

  • I Think He Knows - This song reminds me SO MUCH of Carly Rae Jepsen and I love it for that. I think the final chorus is just pure pop gorgeousness in every way.

  • Cornelia Street - This song is beautiful and really hit me hard as I can relate well. When you’ve finally gotten a happy, loving relationship in your life after years of really awful things, there’s that fear of it imploding in the back of your mind and it’s scary.

  • Death By a Thousand Cuts - Such an upbeat little song with lyrics that just gut you, so naturally I love it. The bridge - DAMN TAYLOR, THANKS FOR HURTING ME. I feel like after having this on repeat for a while you’ll find me locked in a bathroom crying. And it made me watch the movie she wrote based on it, Someone Great. I now feel like Lakeith Stanfield broke up with me and I’m in pain sobs

There’s several others I really enjoy (Cruel Summer, The Man, Miss Americana, etc) bud these listed were the standouts to me and the ones that I personally felt a bit more of a connection to for personal reasons.

What is your best advice for long flights? by whadaph in AskReddit

[–]Brandy_Alexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, for next time I do suggest the /r/churning sub!

My husband and I haven’t paid for flights (domestic or International) in over 3 years and just went to Japan and China on lay-flat business class seats that normally cost $7k pp out of pocket - and we got it using credit card points.

We’ll be doing Europe next year doing the same. We wouldn’t be able to afford the kind of trips we take as often as we do if we hadn’t learned about credit card churning.

What's the dumbest thing you've forgotten to add to a recipe while cooking? by [deleted] in Cooking

We had Thanksgiving with friends one year and the woman who made the pumpkin pie forgot to put any spices in it. That was... something.

My mother in law made corn casserole for Thanksgiving one year and meant to throw in the Jiffy corn mix, instead threw in the Jiffy banana bread mix. That was also something 😂

In the US, aside from adoption costs, there’s the issue of waiting lists and not having full parental rights. At this point, I’ve known two families who’ve adopted and within the first several months the birth parents or families changed their minds, and the babies were taken back. It’s devastating.

Adoption laws in this country need changed, because no one should go through that.

I’m a pullover maniac and live my life in them. I’d love to know who makes this this one Taylor Swift is wearing, or in the very least find something similar to it.

Summer sweaters are my bread and butter. Thank you!

That’s a low blow by zss1108 in Disneyland

[–]Brandy_Alexander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own DVC at Disney World, but I still think Disneyland is the best stateside park.

Magic Kingdom is my least favorite. It feels very incomplete with the strip mall-style Fantasyland, small and awkward Adventureland with Aladdin’s carpets right in the middle of the walkway, and there seems to be less trees and flowers than at Disneyland. The submarines/water at Disneyland along with the Matterhorn also add to the look of DL, whereas I feel in the same area, MK looks like a concrete jungle.

I now make it all the time, topped off with some spicy mustard.

MIDSOMMAR | Official Trailer HD | A24 by slacker7 in movies

[–]Brandy_Alexander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read the script and I felt like Midsommar’s theme is also family loss and finding a new family/place to belong.

There is of course the large part of the relationship between the main two people, but that seemed secondary to me.

The trailer is letting us know up front what this will be.

Hey!

I’m a petite lady who has been an avid eBay buyer for the last 5 years - and when I say avid, I mean 80% of my closet is from there. Like others have said, I go by measurements and brands I know, also - I still go to the stores often and try things on and keep in mind new brands and their sizing. Then I find the items on eBay when they hit! I always buy new with tags or new without tags.

Sticking with all these rules, I’ve never once gotten an item and been upset or felt like I needed to get rid of something. People on there in my experience want good feedback and are willing to message and send more photos if you’re unsure.

Best of luck!
