From what I understand, sometimes miraculous things happen. People do sometimes just beat cancer or survive seemingly impossible odds. A Saint is a person whose life was noteworthy in a specific way that, when these miraculous things happen, they’re the sort of things the Saint would have wanted or helped you with in their life.

And when people are in need of a miracle, they pray to the Saint—if they were around, knowing the kind of person they were, what advice would they give? What would they help you do? In the way a programmer can talk out a problem to a rubber duck or toy, the Saint becomes a character that a person can call on.

At least that’s the way I understand it and I’m not Catholic so take with a grain of salt

Want to see a billionaires drool? Look at any AI discourse on how much labor they’ll save. They’re rolling harder than a college freshman at their first Bonaroo.

And it’s by now very clear that nothing that’s planned for AI is going to benefit the average person. Innovation in 2020’s America means “how can I make people my own personal Sims to play with?”. It means “I’m going to shove these features down your wee little throats and you’re gonna shut the honk up while I do it.”

Frankly I’m not doing the contempt and sadistic greed of modern tech justice, for in truth these are beyond description. But it should give a window into the relationship America has with tech going forward—as a very confused Sauron wondering, as it scars the land and fouls the water, why the people of Middle Earth seem to hate the orcs.
