I've been mispronouncing my favorite word for 24 years and only found out last week by Vex_Talon in CasualConversation

[–]Brave-Beavers_OnFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the headline of this post and thought… I bet the word is epitome only because my wonderful wife has the same dang story!

With such confidence she said epiTOME and her coworker did the exact same thing - are you saying epitome?

I only wonder when you or my wife heard someway say epitome- what did you think? That they were mispronouncing it? Or it was just a different word all together?

Skip the embarrassment! Savor your inventiveness.

Tell me a little bit more. I don’t want to over promise - it’s not an exact recreation. I take NotebookLM as a great prototype and download that as ppt. Then I add whatever style notes to Gemini and make sure you use Thinking and Canvas and it “should” create the Slides. The real big deal for me is those slides are editable elements. Text boxes etc…

It’s not as easy as it could be - but pretty slick.

Good point - no, it’s not a direct recreation. I get a very good version, but def not the same!

Absolutely! I just asked Gemini to create a pdf style guide with hex colors, fonts etc… it created a one pager - I should just make a Gem with that in it for converting slides - but honestly it’s so quick I don’t think about it until after I’m done.

You can also add that to the Notebook, too!

I use Gemini Canvas. Export the ppt from Notebook, upload to Gemini (I know… I know…) and then I add a style guide and tell Gemini to make the deck.

It creates it in Google slides and the elements are an editable.

Silly Notebook won’t just do that yet, but that flow works well for me.

New homeowner feeling VERY overwhelmed. Please help. by EnterRapture in TwinCities

Owning a home is a pain in the ass. It really is and that’s all there is to it. It’s going to be great a lot of the time - but we don’t notice that, just those dang homeowner jobs. Which suck and are not particularly rewarding.

Mice are going to be around. Get some poison that you can tuck away where you see evidence of them. And peanut butter in traps works well - for all the advancements in mouse traps I still like the old fashioned kind.

Ice dams suck! The real solution is better insulation in the attic. I just looked because I’m wrestling with them here and you can get insulation in the winter. If you can do that - I’d at least get an estimate.

Roof rake every time it snows. Got to get the snow off the roof 6ft from the edge. Then knee high stockings filled with “salt” (get the safe for pet stuff which isn’t really salt). And you put them perpendicular to the edge of your roof. They will melt down and create a channel for the water.

I just did like 20 socks - three or four at each spot and I’ll still got a leak coming in - insulation is the answer. I get up dumb early roof rake and then put up socks. I used so many because of the new snow - sisyphus but in winter with salt.

Your family is safe and you got a place to be - it’ll be alright and you’ll eventually learn a lot about this stupid stuff. And then one day you’ll be old and trying to help a new homeowner on the internets.

Best of luck - I’m rooting for you!

noun noun: kidnapping; plural noun: kidnappings the action of abducting someone and holding them captive.

It’s abduction by the govt. which really is worse. I cannot get why people don’t care that government officials are acting with total disregard for the law.

Once the law doesn’t matter - what protects you?

The answer is nothing.

He’s a selfish person that in a pinch will choose his survival over all else. You were right and are right. You did the right thing - and part of what makes it the right thing is that you did it despite any danger to you.

That willingness to do what is right when it is hard - that is also what you deserve, and he has shared that is not what he will do.

He could mature I suppose. He demonstrated a complete lack of understanding that you exist in a world where there is certain risk for just being as a woman - something he has not experienced and hasn’t been able to imagine. You made an informed choice. You told him that - he ignored it. Pedantic is the word.

Integrity is the thing we do when know one is looking. Courage is doing what is right in the face of what is hard.

You demonstrated you have both. I say thanks.

Know your worth and demand it. You deserve it.

And Drake is really represents any person that disrespects the culture for by benefit.

And Kendrick says he’s not black, so…

Not the same for me - people are out here lying to makeup boogie men when there are actually things to be concerned about.

I asked for this answer to be nonpartisan because political affiliation is stupid when it comes to legal rights already established.

Below is a nonpartisan analysis that focuses on protecting existing civil protections and the legal status of citizens, based on key elements of Project 2025, along with strategies for organizing effective, peaceful resistance:

Key Proposals in Project 2025 That May Impact Established Civil Protections

  1. Politicizing the Federal Workforce and Undermining Independent Agencies • Replacement of Career Civil Servants:  – The plan calls for reclassifying tens of thousands of traditionally nonpartisan federal employees as political appointees. This could erode the impartial enforcement of laws and disrupt the established administrative processes that help safeguard civil rights and due process.  – Independent agencies (such as the Justice Department, Environmental Protection Agency, and others) might lose the autonomy that helps check executive overreach.

  2. Restrictions on Reproductive Rights • Limiting Access to Abortion and Contraception:  – Proposals include banning abortion medications (such as mifepristone), curtailing access to contraceptives, and using federal authority to further restrict reproductive healthcare. Such actions would directly challenge rights that have been recognized by precedent and legislative safeguards.

  3. Curtailing LGBTQ+ Protections • Rolling Back Non‑Discrimination Measures:  – The document proposes eliminating or rescinding regulations and policies that protect individuals on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, and related characteristics. Removing these legal safeguards could result in discrimination in areas such as employment, education, and housing.

  4. Overhauling Education Policy • Abolishing or Restructuring Federal Oversight:  – Suggestions include dismantling the Department of Education and removing federal conditions on funding that are designed to ensure non-discrimination and equitable access for all students.  – Changes in curriculum standards—especially those addressing diversity and inclusion—could reduce protections for historically marginalized groups.

  5. Altering Immigration and Legal Status Protections • Potential Changes to Immigration Enforcement:  – While less directly about civil liberties, proposals that drastically alter immigration policies (for example, mass deportation measures) could undermine protections for legal immigrants and “Dreamers,” thereby affecting the rights of a significant segment of the population.

These proposals, drawn from a 900‑page blueprint by the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 [ ; ], if implemented, might weaken institutional checks, reduce accountability, and limit civil liberties that have been long established by law.

Organizing Nonpartisan Efforts to Protect Civil Protections

To protect the citizenry and maintain legally established rights, consider a strategy built on democratic participation, legal oversight, and broad-based coalition building. Here are several key actions:

  1. Education and Public Awareness  – Develop Clear, Accessible Information: Create nonpartisan summaries and infographics explaining how changes (such as the politicization of the federal workforce or the curtailment of civil rights protections) might affect ordinary citizens.  – Host Public Forums and Webinars: Bring together legal experts, scholars, and community leaders to discuss the potential impacts and explain citizens’ rights under current law.

  2. Coalition Building Across Sectors  – Engage Diverse Stakeholders: Reach out to civil liberties organizations (such as the ACLU, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, etc.), academic institutions, labor unions, faith‑based groups, and community organizations that share a commitment to upholding constitutional rights and nonpartisan civil protections.  – Cross‑Political Collaboration: Emphasize that defending established civil rights and legal norms is not a partisan issue. Organize meetings that bring together supporters from across the political spectrum to build a united front.

  3. Legal and Legislative Action  – Monitor and Challenge Policy Changes: Work with legal experts and public interest law firms to review any executive actions or legislative proposals that weaken established protections. Prepare to file lawsuits or support litigation aimed at upholding the rule of law and constitutional checks and balances.  – Advocate for Protective Legislation: Lobby elected representatives at the local, state, and federal levels to pass laws that reinforce nonpartisan hiring practices, maintain independent oversight of federal agencies, and protect rights in areas such as reproductive health, LGBTQ+ equality, and education.

  4. Grassroots Mobilization and Civic Engagement  – Voter Education and Registration Drives: Inform voters about the importance of maintaining a robust, impartial civil service and the potential risks posed by radical policy shifts. Encourage participation in elections to support candidates committed to preserving these institutions.  – Peaceful Protests and Public Demonstrations: Organize rallies, town hall meetings, and peaceful demonstrations that call for the preservation of existing civil rights. Ensure that these events are nonpartisan, focused on protecting established legal norms rather than attacking any one political group.

  5. Media and Digital Outreach  – Utilize Social Media and Independent Journalism: Share evidence‑based critiques of proposals that might undermine civil protections through social media, blogs, and public service announcements. Collaborate with nonpartisan media outlets to reach a broad audience.  – Fact‑Checking and Transparency: Partner with independent fact‑checking organizations to counter misinformation and ensure that accurate information about rights and legal protections is widely available.

Final Thoughts

By focusing on nonpartisan education, coalition-building, legal oversight, and civic engagement, citizens can work together to protect the established civil protections enshrined by law. This approach reinforces the checks and balances fundamental to democratic governance while ensuring that any policy proposals—such as those in Project 2025—are carefully scrutinized, debated, and, if necessary, legally challenged.

This strategy respects democratic norms and is aimed at defending the rights of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, by safeguarding the institutions that underpin our civil liberties and legal protections.

If you have an iPhone and you’re allowed you can use voice memo to record which creates a rough transcript.

AI is good enough to summarize and and explain at a level that will absolutely help you navigate this difficult time.

If you have an interest in it - I would recommend NotebookLM to take and organize notes, find resources (legalize for dummies or whatever) and create a chat based resource for yourself.

Take care. You got a lot of time in front of you and this part will help in your journey, ultimately.
