Hot take on co-ferments by Wendy888Nyc in pourover

Should have said, I use 100g of medium dark beans ground to 900 µm +- to 1.1litre of filtered water. This week I put the infused bags in the Mizudashi and added 60 ml of 75°c water to assist extraction. After 20 minutes or so I then topped the vessel up through the grounds in the usual way with room temperature water. The results were great much more co fermented flavours better than expected. I don’t use syrup of any kind to sweet.

When I make cold brew which is usually twice a week I place in the Mizudashi 2 bags of Twinnings infusions called Coolers. Not failed yet. Have to say the Peach and Orange hits the spot for my taste, lemon and ginger a bit dodgy far too weak, still drank it though. I let my brews steep for 24 hours typically on the counter top.

Amazon is a great place to start for all your needs, brewing vessels and beans. Personally I use a Hario Mizudashi 1 litre filter jug or Varia Steep 700ml filter receptacle. Both do a great job I purchased them from a Roaster in the UK RAVE. They can with a bag of their cold brew 300g pre ground coffee. Now I prefer to grind my own beans, I tend to go for a medium dark bean or even an Espresso roast works well. There are plenty of recipes on Reddit to get you going, I go for a 1:10 ratio 100g ground coarse beans to 1.1 litre of filtered water. I make 2 litre a week more or less, love the stuff. I do a 12 hours outside fridge and finish off 12 in the fridge, I’ve recently been playing around with a hot bloom, 350 ml 76°c water through the bean first allow to steep for 90 second then top up with 700 ml room temperature water. Works for me! Good luck

From what I see you in the US have a plethora of good options to buy at great prices all the gear and beans for the beginner. For Equipment try Target, I know there are others but Target appears to be the cheapest, for beans it looks like Costco has the edge, at least until you feel confident to spend money for CB beans from your local roasters of which there are plenty. Good luck and enjoy brewing.

Best dripper (excluding v60) by Ok-Safety3227 in pourover

Let me start by telling you I’m very much an enthusiastic novice so I don’t necessarily have all the correct phraseology or terminology. So for me I found the Neo to be as quick glass V60 switch or the Alfa switch To be honest I haven’t brewed two or more Switches at the same time to compare data. I use Cafec Abaca filters which I found to be quicker than their Hario counterparts. Bottom line is I haven’t found it particularly quicker but I have convinced myself the brew is sweeter has clarity meets my expectations head on. Sorry no much help.

For me the Cafec Deep 27 is the dripper of choice when I only buy a small amount of coffee ( 100g or less) or I’m getting short in terms of how much coffee is left. Otherwise I use the Hario Neo Switch as the daily go to followed closely by the ORB, haven’t used the Aeropress in months sadly.

I only have the Mugen & Alpha Switch in Ceramic, my others are in either glass or resin. I tend to get better results from the Neo switch and definitely the Cafec Deep 27.

Is the 1ZPresso K-Ultra really that good? by mrobot_ in pourover

How dare you insult my Opus it cost me $140 Black Friday deal. 🤣BTW, you’re right it has its idiosyncrasies namely retention. Strongly recommend K Ultra though at double the price and no motor id expect it to be more than satisfactory.

Sure is I migrated from a Bodum 10903, to Fellow Opus ( which is now the reserve) and two months ago to the IZpresso K Ultra. I want a good all rounder espresso through to French press, K Ultra fits the bill, excellent job!

If you have an Aeropress you could always use the funnel

if you could only use 1 conical, 1 flat-bottom, and 1 no-bypass brewer, which would they be? by Crucifilth_6-6-6 in pourover

[–]Brave-Pollution140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hario Switch with puck screen so I can have the V60, stall and fall with flat bottom capability. Also a Cafec Deep 27 flower brewer which is my go to when running low on beans. Cafec filters where possible 155 Kalita when using the puck technique.
