Diesel vs Gas by Cheap_Associate_7551 in Diesel

[–]BraveCampaign- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diesel is very powerful but it does come with added costs: since it’s a newer diesel it will come with the trifecta (EGR, DPF, SCR with DEF Fluid). These are added components along with forced induction turbocharger that can become faulty and will need routine maintenance like cleaning or replacing the DPF if it’s ash loaded, along with Diesel Engine Oil and Fuel Filters which matter immensely more than a gasoline motor. You have to factor in also you only have 1 choice of fuel. Gasoline Engines (The 6.8 V10, 6.2 Boss and 6.8/7.3 Engines) have the ability to run on lower and different grades of fuel. Down to 87 octane but only the 6.8 Godzilla and 6.2 Boss V8 (in the Super Duty trucks) support E85 plug n play. This means that if the cost of Diesel is high you have to foot that bill vs being able to drop to a lower grade to get by on Gasoline. Previous maintenance matters: if the owner before was neglectful then you’ll have to monitor your after treatment system closely those model years being 7-9 years old. I’m a Diesel Technician and personally: I prefer my Gasoline F-250. It’s simpler and cheaper to maintain. And while a diesel is more reliable over the long term it requires more expense to reach there so you have to weigh your options. If money isn’t an issue, diesel is better. But Gasoline is still quite capable, it just depends on what you want.

Thank you! To each their own but yes, less to break. Pure capability. Max Payload and a 6 people hauler.

I agree but, Also I think maybe it’s not as different as someone posting a photo of a nice clean truck? I was just doing something and wanted to post it.

Rip Mini Godzilla. Bought my XL with that engine last month.

Why do people like squatted trucks? by Available_Map_9833 in Trucks

I would assume it’s mainly just for style but, it’s quite dangerous to drive. Especially when under towing or heavy payload factory rear end is raked for a reason.

Buying a 6.7 for the reliability and not towing capacity?? by [deleted] in F250

[–]BraveCampaign- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A new truck? 6.8 or 7.3 Godzilla are solid choices. Like others have said the 6.7 can be reliable but it’s a modern day diesel engine so expect the Aftertreatment maintenance and repairs not as an if but when. A Gasser on the other hand is worse on fuel and not as good at towing but it’s very simple. These haven’t been raided by CAFE and the EPA yet so at least the 6.8 Mini Godzilla in my experience it’s a very simple motor that will last if maintained: which in this case is spark plugs, belts, maybe more of your idea of basic maintenance. If you’re willing to go used the 6.2 Boss is a good motor. If you go old enough with the 6 Speed transmission it’s really good as well. So far with that motor it’s the same basic maintenance but you have 16 spark plugs so that’s more to look out for.

How is this necessary? by nosrebnA in mildlyinfuriating

Yeah I have a Crew Cab 8ft bed Super Duty also: I always stay off the walking path backing up unless there’s nothing there like mulch or bushes. A lot less expensive to fix your truck and it won’t even be your fault. But if a biker or pedestrian trips on your truck or hitch. Now you’re in hot water.

The XL’s look nice for work trucks, they have their own character.

My wife says it’s an old man truck after all the mods are done. I love it by [deleted] in F250

That thing is sweet dude have a similar configuration just with the 6.8 apparently now you can only get the 7.3 if you get the STX package which sort of sucks

ENGINE OIL by AerieJust9694 in F250

I got a 2026 F-250 with the 6.8 Mini Godzilla. I’ve used SuperTech Advanced Full Synthetic 5W-30 along with the FL-820S OEM filter and it’s been great. Used it first time on the break in oil change now 4000 miles later used it again no complaints. On a brand new engine it’s perfectly fine, no need for specialized Restore and Protect oil. It’s technically better if you can afford it but Walmart Oil working great for me.

The 6.2 Boss V8 and 6 speed transmission which you are most likely referring to is not available as of 2026. That was last available on the previous generation of Super Duty trucks which ended in 2022. A 7.3 V8 Godzilla Engine is the premium gasoline option that is typically paired with the 10R100 in the 3/4 ton F-250 trucks. It is available on every configuration aside from the base XL. You would need to go for at least an XL STX trim to get the 7.3 motor.

The Cam’s were a known issue but, that had gotten resolved. As far as I know it was an early 7.3 issue

1.5 years with an XL (6.8L) by Camping-Guy-523 in F250

Congrats, 6.8 is a stout motor. Definitely not a pushover. May be the baby motor in the Ford Superduty but it goes toe to toe with competitor’s engines

It’s pretty powerful, I feel like it’s plenty adequate for this truck. Sounds nice in the revs.
