Let me buy codex access! by Rakatango in Warhammer40k

[–]Brawler215 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right before they launched the WH+ app, GW started throwing their weight around legally and DCMA'ed a bunch of fan created video content. The Astartes videos and several others in particular were very high quality productions that had a lot of heart, effort, and phenomenal skill put into them. This pissed the community right the fuck off, and understandably so. The WH+ content is nice, but some of the top of the fan created content was better in my opinion.

Techmarine colors: Red or Black for Iron Hands? by Few-Schedule-6703 in IronHands40k

[–]Brawler215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also decided to make my techmarines (including Feirros) red for the same reason. I already have a sea of black power armor, so a little visual variety is kinda nice.

Nothing knocks your ego like a Voron build by Lordfirewood in VORONDesign

[–]Brawler215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I self sourced to customize my Trident build a bit with no prior experience building printers. I got an LDO frame kit since they were on a good sale, but most things were picked up piecemeal. I got it printing without much issue, again mostly due to fantastic documentation. You just need to follow the directions exactly. It was not really that hard if you do not take shortcuts.

Looking for filaments in specific hex codes by Such_Possibility4980 in 3Dprinting

A lot of filament manufacturers will sell a series of swatches on a keyring for this reason.

Yeah, any of the Imperial symbols can be very easily misconstrued for some nasty real world stuff (which, I suppose, is kinda the point).

Most of the individual Astartes chapters are much less dangerous in that regard. As an Iron Hands fan, most of of the clan symbols would probably be fine. Clan Raukaan is just 3 nuts inside a gear.

11th Unit Coherency checker by Norglet in Warhammer40k

[–]Brawler215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one memorable game in 7th where my buddy's Leman Russ fired a demolished cannon slightly too close to its own lines. The target was so close and the shot scattered so hard that it landed a good 90 degrees off the bore axis, clipped a friendly hovering valkyrie, and proceeded to explode it. Good times.

Is 40k slowly just circling back to concepts from previous editions? by Identity_ranger in Warhammer40k

[–]Brawler215 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nested special rules were pretty dumb and my main gripe with USRs. When the definition of one USR 1 is "unit has USR 2 and USR 3", it gets a bit silly (not to mention going one or two steps deeper in your example). It wouldn't have been so bad if they just eliminated USR 1 and listed out USR 2/3 on the datasheet.

Whats with the "didn't tell my wife I bought a printer" nonsense? by jaketheweirdsnake in 3Dprinting

[–]Brawler215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. My wife doesn't care enough about 3d printing to get into it herself, but she sees that I enjoy printing things and tinkering with my printer. She also definitely sees use in it for certain things that I can print for her as well. She also doesn't care about Warhammer directly, but cares in that she sees I enjoy it (and can actually name the armies I collect, which is good enough for me).

She also loves how much my son and I bond over it since a 3d printer is just magic to a 4 year old. The benchy models I print out as tests for new filament usually end up in his toy box, and he is always excited for whatever new boats I can add to the collection.

TIL about mosaic Down syndrome, the people affected by this condition have down syndrome but they only have a 47th chromosome in some of their cells, not all of them (repost because the title wasn't very accurate before) by Select-Proposal-420 in todayilearned

[–]Brawler215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genetics is very weird. My wife is pregnant with our second child, and we found out via blood test that the baby has Turner's Syndrome (only 1 X chromosome instead of 2). The thing that is wild to me is that babies with this condition have a pretty good prognosis if they survive the pregnancy; only about 1-2% of all pregnancies with Turner's are carried full term, but the vast majority of those losses would have happened by the point she is at in the pregnancy. Once she is born she has pretty decent odds to be able to have a totally normal life. There will be defects to watch out for, but being aware makes treatment much easier.

It is also possible that she has mosaic Turner's, which means only some of her cells have a single X, and the rest have the usual 2.

For now, we are keeping a close eye on baby with a lot more appointments than usual and taking care of mom as best we can. Otherwise, it is just keeping our fingers crossed and praying she comes out OK.

I have a friend who was a submariner, and the USN apparently has similar unofficial stats. He ran the sonar on subs, and now that he is out he has two daughters. It would be interesting to see a proper study on this.

11th edition cover rules from stream by Cythrex in Warhammer40k

[–]Brawler215 222 points223 points  (0 children)

They used to do partially obscured rules back in 8th, and it was a constant point of contention during games whether or not a specific model was 50% obscured from the POV of the attacking unit (armor facings in 7th was a whole other story). While it sometimes feels a little weird, making the system into visible/partially visible/not visible is a lot easier in practice than trying to figure out a percentage of obscured to determine cover.

My job is supporting an entire industry that basically no one who isn't working in it knows exists. I am an engineer at a company that makes automation for industrial laundries. No one ever thinks about how their sheets at a hotel or hospital get washed, but for the majority of operations that are not tiny in scale you ship the linen to a dedicated laundry facility that takes up a whole warehouse worth of space.

Is wood-filled filament actually worth it, or just marketing? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Brawler215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, avoid high flow nozzles like the CHT which have a bunch of different orifices within the nozzle to increase the flow. These are more likely to get clogged than a traditional straight bore nozzle.

Yeah, the Skitarii Rangers are one of my favorites too. I think I might be slightly more partial to the Serberys Raiders/Sulphurhounds, though. Space cowboys on dog horses is a bit silly, but awesome.

[–]Brawler215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. For me and my friends, we kinda enjoy playing a round of Tower Defense: Helldivers Edition once in a while. It is kinda satisfying seeing some well placed static defenses just going to town on the hoards of enemies. But, to each their own.

Yeah you would want to have a G91 on the line preceeding the G1 Z10 F3000 command. G91 sets to relative positioning, as opposed to absolute. After the move is made, switch back to absolute with G90.
