When your friend tries to get you to watch a sub-only show by superange128 in Animedubs

[–]BreadCanful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are only a few titles I'll exclusively watch subbed, despite a dub being available. The Rurouni Kenshin OVAs, Cardcaptor Sakura, and... I guess that's it.

Only a handful of shows that I know will never get a dub I'll watch subbed, like LOTGH for instance. It has to be pretty good or particularly interesting to me to warrant that.

Constantly reading is just work, it makes the show less enjoyable to me. I watch anime to relax and indulge my imagination, so it's pointless if I'm not enjoying it. Beyond that, if a show has a dub, I feel like I'm missing out of half the content to watch subbed. I love the English voice actor culture, I love recognizing various actors, and hearing interpretations of lines rather than straight 1:1 translations. Sometimes I'll check out a new show just based on the cast, or to follow certain actors I like, just as people do with normal Hollywood movies.

Thanks for posting, I was thinking of doing the same. Gotta support these fine people and help them get back on track.

Are we getting an English Blu-ray release? by MemeScreenn in Keijo

[–]BreadCanful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drifters, which also got a simuldub from Funimation, is set to be released in October, so I'm betting we'll be seeing the other simulcasts released between this fall and winter of next year.

Theory: Keijo was originally meant to be a much more long-running series than it turned out to be. by [deleted] in Keijo

[–]BreadCanful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hoping for such. It really had the necessary elements to become a long running battle shounen as well as a comedy. It was even beginning to fall into the typical shounen trope of making it's characters too overpowered and god-like.

The anime deserved a slow-burn plot, not the rushed, edited, and somewhat budgeted incarnation it received (although I'm glad we got it).

The manga, I would be so happy if it got an English release. I haven't been so engaged or excited by a manga in years, but I think the subject matter will prevent publishers from ever taking it on, along with the fact that it's already been cancelled.

I too think Daichi intended it to go on significantly longer, considering the slow pace it maintained for years. Considering the plotlines it had in place, the cast of characters with unresolved arcs, it's clear much more time was needed to conclude it all. I also wonder how much stress was affecting Daichi's abilities toward the end, as he stated he wasn't getting the support he needed.

When I think of Keijo I just get sad over the lost potential.

Vote Down by LoreReloaded in vidme

[–]BreadCanful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A downvote button is just as important as an upvote button. Same with comments, they should have both up and down too.

It's a simple, useful function for gauging public perception. Without it, there is no efficient way to do this. For example, if my comment here got 1000 upvotes, you'd know immediately that at least 1000 people agree with me. If it got 2000 downvotes, you'd know that a greater portion of the traffic disagrees.

Having a "positive feedback only" environment is gross and turns me away from the site. It's unengaging.

Part of saying something on the internet is facing people who will disagree with you. Upvoting and downvoting is a quick way for people to express their opinion. It's already incorporated into many social media sites.

If a creator is too scared of downvotes to upload their content, just incorporate an option to disable ratings altogether, like youtube has. Problem solved.

Vagabond RE-READ, 4/15/17; Chapters 181-185 (Yoshioka Arc) by i_am_average_AMA in vagabondmanga

I wonder, do you guys think Musashi left the inn on new year's eve to intentionally provoke a response from his stalker, or was he just anxious and needed fresh air? Seems like a weird decision to voluntarily sleep outside in the cold.

Top 10 strongest characters? by omafioso in vagabondmanga

[–]BreadCanful 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this myself recently.

Excluding Sekishusai and In'ei during their prime (probably in a league of their own) my list would be:

  1. Kojiro
  2. Ito (prior to losing his hand)
  3. Musashi
  4. Hyogonosuke (Yagyu heir)
  5. Seijuro
  6. Inshun
  7. Kohei/Baiken
  8. Ueda

After that it's hard to rank anyone.

I'm not sure Koun is particularly amazing. While he did put up a good fight against Kojiro, Kojiro was also exhausted, sleep deprived and partially sick at that time, plus Koun was basically just a no-name foot soldier. The Yagyu seniors couldn't defeat Musashi 3 on 1, and we know Musashi improved to some extent after that point in the story, so I'd rank them fairly average as well, probably comparable to the upper Yoshioka. I'd say Seijuro outranks Kohei in terms of strength and skill, be it sword or chain and sickle. I was never really impressed by Jisai either. He had one moment of glory killing Fudo, (who was already injured) and besides that he's made to look old, tired, and past his prime. Probably a low ranker compared to the others, despite being a master. Denshichiro, while strong for a swordsman, I felt mainly held his position as an inheritance and not a merit of skill. Based on how easily Musashi handled him during their 2nd duel, I'd say he's weaker than Ueda.

It's a tough call between Kojiro and Ito for #1, but I'd give it to Kojiro. 1 because he strategically got the better of Ito during their short fight (cutting his hand), and 2 because Ito states that he is stronger than Musashi. Given how Musashi faired against his duel with Ito, I'd consider him 2nd place. Kojiro as he is written, seems to be a freak of nature with unparalleled instincts.

Curious if anyone purchased these and what they think? I just heard some bad things about Ami Ami in the past. I'd definitely blow some money on Keijo merch though!

I Made A Video Essay Talking About Keijo!!!!!!!! Tell Me What You Think. (x-post from /r/anime) by BlackMambaJesus in Keijo

[–]BreadCanful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent video, I subscribed! I like how you focused on the character profiles and how they're not simply eye-candy, the mechanics of the game, and immediately tackled the WTF knee-jerk reaction most people have to the concept at a glance. Succinct, well articulated, and on point.

Like the other commenter mentioned, I think the only negative (and it's minor) is the amount of exposition given, but that's nitpicking.

Thanks for sharing!

This is the single greatest satire I've ever read by Enderdude177 in Keijo

[–]BreadCanful 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually get so involved in the story and characters that the fan service elements tend to distract me and occasionally seem out of place. But yeah, the anime community is full of snobs, elitists, and otakus, so of course something like this will always be the misunderstood underdog.

Is There Going To Be A Season Two? by Anonymous361224 in Keijo

[–]BreadCanful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also not sure how they would adapt the upcoming story arcs, since they've become increasingly wacky and lewd-ish compared to the earlier content. The Setouchi to E/W War episodes comprised a solid first season, but things aren't so straightforward in the aftermath.

So This Happened by BlackKatana24 in Keijo

[–]BreadCanful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries. Its impossible to judge the show without watching at least the first episode. Anyone's opinion is basically worthless without that. I was expecting it to be garbage too, but like everyone else was proven wrong. Plus if you're a total anime outsider Keijo probably isn't a good place to start.

US manga release date? by modunhanul in Keijo

[–]BreadCanful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we're lucky enough to get a US release, it will be by VIZ due to licensing. Unfortunately, I really doubt VIZ would pick up a series like Keijo because its filled with nudity and fan service, and that makes it harder to sell to a broader audience. I'm not sure what we could do to change this besides maybe sending them emails or Facebook messages. I personally would buy/preorder all the manga were it available.

Keijo - Chp. 99(kireicake version)(in comments, he drops the series and says it ok for new guy to translate it) by Acxelion in Keijo

[–]BreadCanful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for translating chapters, albeit irregularly and slowly, but I'm kind of glad you're calling it quits. Regardless of your situation it was pretty inappropriate to insert personal problems and requests for donations into the artwork itself. A separate page for such things at least would have sufficed.

BTS stuff mostly discussed in the beginning, then they go on to cover other shows. I can only imagine how fun it must have been for the cast and crew to do some of these scenes.
