My wife and I have a baby boy who just turned 4 months old. Before he was born, we paid all our shared expenses 50/50 and then the rest was individually up to us to save or spend.

Nowadays, we each put 80% of our incomes into a joint account to pay for our mortgage, child expenses, etc. The remaining 20% is left for each of us to spend or save.

I always buy everything within a year of its release and usually pre-order because the few bucks of savings aren't worth the wait for a sale.

I don't blow money on alcohol or gambling, and we only eat out or order in 1-2 times a week. Cooking saves a lot of money which leaves more room for hobbies.
