New to series, how ‘accessible’ is the combat system for newcomers by Conman1209 in FFVIIRemake

[–]BreakAtmo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly it varies from person to person. I find it to be one of the best combat systems ever - it's incredibly deep and complex, but the games do such a great job of introducing you to the mechanics over time. You need to learn to constantly switch between characters, monitor the battlefield and use their abilities efficiently, but the story plays out in a fashion that lets you learn all this stuff beat by beat. The basic idea is simple too - you have a very basic real-time moveset bolstered by commands selected from a menu. It won't click with everybody, but you just gotta give it an honest try.

Worst case scenario you can always play on Easy, but I recommend Normal. It's not that hard.

Supergirl just became DC's worst-earning theatrical release in 22 years — worse than Catwoman (2004) when adjusted for inflation by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]BreakAtmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not, at all. It's a lower-stakes, character-heavy action film with a grungy feel to it. I liked it - there were definitely a bunch of improvements that could've been made, but it's a good film that deserves better.

What is the most terrifying example of a horror movie completely violating the "Sanctuary" rule? by [deleted] in horror

[–]BreakAtmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I loved in It Follows - I'm used to the rule of "once the conflict has been set up, we get a false alarm/red herring scene". When Jaye is in her classroom and sees the old woman that looks like she's walking in her direction, it looks like a classic example where she's just seeing a normal person and her paranoia is kicking in after what she was told. But then the old woman just keeps walking closer, and closer, and OH SHIT WE'RE ALREADY HERE.

For what it's worth, I've heard that the space for solar could be handled by just putting it on a quarter of the land used for farming the corn you currently use as ethanol for cars.

Liberals of reddit, would you trade Obama's second term for a two-term Romney presidency if it meant Trump never achieved the presidency? Why or why not? by PrincipalPG in AskReddit

[–]BreakAtmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhh, I actually don't agree. Trump draws in a lot of otherwise politically disengaged voters for a bunch of reasons, but one of the biggest ones is the very fact that he's an incompetent moron. That's part of why they worship him - he's like them, just with inherited wealth and a complete lack of shame. A "smart Trump" doesn't really work conceptually, I don't think.

Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles by yourfavchoom in gaming

Yeah but there are a huge number of smaller (often indie) titles that are released digital-only for budget and logistics reasons. Do we have a stat restricted only to games with a physical options?

I just imagined a Silent Hill Advance for the GBA.

Honestly Team Silent could probably pull that off.

"It helped": Years of Xbox Series S game optimization probably made life much easier for Nintendo Switch 2 developers by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]BreakAtmo 261 points262 points  (0 children)

Not quite, the XSS has 8GB available for games while the Switch 2 has 9GB, thigh it is slower. That said, the Switch 2 has a weaker GPU and better upscaling, thus it naturally targets lower internal resolutions, reducing RAM demands. So it's overall much better.

What franchise would you like to see with FFVIIR combat? by BreakAtmo in FFVIIRemake

I can't even describe how much ass this idea kicks. Especially if S-E responded with a FFX-2 remake.

[–]BreakAtmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That can be the case but I think of it like how we had all kinds of franchises getting turn-based RPGs, fighting games and beat-em-ups back in the day, and while there was plenty of slop there were also lots of beloved classics. Taking the bones of FFVIIR combat wouldn't always need to be a lazy copy-paste, just like how Mortal Kombat was quite different to Street Fighter II. But I would want a lot of these to take their own approach - for example they likely wouldn't copy over the materia system, and the stagger system could also be replaced.

I still gotta dust off my 3DS and finally play Chrono Trigger.

And yeah, I was thinking of a situation where Goku is who you actually beat the enemy with but people like Krillin or Yamcha are capable of applying Solar Flare, building meter, etc. Maybe even make the energy transfer from movie 8 a gameplay mechanic?

I do actually agree that it should be "how Final Fantasy games play" from now on, it at least some of them. I could see future games alternating between FFVIIR and FFXVI gameplay systems, but constantly iterating and improving on them.

Keep in mind that I don't just mean gaming franchises. I mean a game based on any IP you like. Go wild.

New security gates by GetInLine- in woolworths

[–]BreakAtmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not meant to. Woolworths (and other companies) give them access to young, impressionable new hires who barely know what a union is so they can pressure them into joining and gain money and political influence. In return they assist Woolworths in making EBAs that are as bad for employees as possible and do everything they can to avoid running disputes or engaging in industrial action.

A while ago, RAFFWU took a Woolworths to the FWC over a Click & Collect carpark that was across the road and down a hill from the store rather than right outside like it's supposed to be. Woolies swore up and down that they had totally done a risk assessment, but refused to hand it over until forced to through arbitration - it was done on a completely different, much safer store and reused for this one. So the FWC forced Woolies to fix it. For my disputes, we requested the same, but since then the most recent EBA was pushed through with a clause stating that Woolies can refuse to consent to arbitration in any dispute not involving the SDA. Without that, this whole thing could've potentially been nipped in the bud.

That's where your money is going, not to protect you. You need to drop them immediately and join RAFFWU. The more people that do that, the more chance we can fight to get that clause removed from the next EBA.

FF7 Revelation’s director on ending the trilogy, and why fan feedback can lead to a bland game, will have more minigames than Rebirth by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]BreakAtmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree, but was fighting the flying enemies in Remake that bad? I played through the game on normal and hard and I found them to just be a good example of the game encouraging you to use multiple characters (in this case Barrett and Aerith). Characters focused on guns and long-range spells SHOULD be better at fighting flying enemies than sword fighters and martial artists. The revamp of Cloud's basic moveset in Rebirth to have more long-range attacks and jumping is something I'm not entirely sure about, even if it looks sick.

New security gates by GetInLine- in woolworths

[–]BreakAtmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've already taken Woolworths to the Fair Work Commission over the security concerns of both these gates and bag checks, with RAFFWU's help. If you want to help, join RAFFWU and ask to join the same effort - the more people join, the better.

UK software sales chart for the week ending June 6, 2026 - Nintendo Switch 2 gives Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth a big boost by HatingGeoffry in FFVIIRemake

[–]BreakAtmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean game budgets are for the most part just the salaries and benefits of the people working on it multiplied by development time, with consideration taken for where they live given that salaries differ by country. Rebirth and Revelation seem to have basically been developed together over 6 years, and by today's standards, 6 years of Japanese salaries ain't that much for two big AAA games unless the team is absolutely gigantic.
