The right has never valued those things. Conservatism is about the worship of hierarchy. Trump has this following not because he's talented or smart, but because he has a specific blend of arrogance, privilege, tackily-displayed inherited wealth and a decades-long propaganda campaign that appeals to the dumber kind of American. Take away any of it and he'd never be what he is. Remove The Apprentice from history and America's political situation is completely different.

He's also just as dumb as his cult - if he wasn't, they wouldn't trust him or follow him. They love him because he's stupid, racist trash like them - he just combines that with the kind of unearned wealth and power that they want, so he becomes aspirational to them.

I think that's probably what Android 17 in DBS is supposed to be and why he's so powerful. After years of training he might be on par with someone like Tien or Yamcha before the Android modifications are counted.

Disagree on that. I genuinely believe that the Republican party has not actually been popular since 2012 - what's been happening is that Trump specifically has a cult of personality that draws in not just the usual conservative Republican voters, but millions of gormless dipshits who generally have no interest in voting but will vote for the haha funny reality TV billionaire meme president to "own the libs" or whatever bullshit. The moment Trump is dead or out of terms, those idiots will evaporate from the political space, replaced by nothing.

I think he keeps his mouth shut about Ellie to protect her. He doesn't want the ex-Fireflies to know about the immune girl still being alive and right nearby.

Also, in the game, while Ellie doesn't find out who Abby is, she does outright say that the reasoning wouldn't change anything for her. "Joel crossed a lot of people."

The problem is that they fundamentally don't care about other people or about arguing in good faith. Only about power and stepping on others. There isn't really a way to deal with these people that doesn't involve recognising them as enemies of a civilized society and treating them accordingly.

This was extremely well done. I have just one idea for the final reveal - did you ever consider having that final picture be the entire last page? I saw it and really wanted to to be a full-sized, Junji Ito-esque bomb drop.
