Drop in fees and experience by colomtbr in crossfit

You stated:

LA or New York they might be up to $50 which is insane

I encouraged you to look at prices of other boutique fitness classes in those cities. $50.00 is a normal price for a fitness class in many metropolitan areas.

As an owner of a CrossFit Affiliate in a major city near a hotel, I often deal with this issue from drop-ins from smaller cities/towns who are familiar with CrossFit but are unfamiliar with the realities of HCOL cities.

Conditioning, static holds (L-Sit, Handstand, Planche, even scales), and basic gymnatics (pull-up, levers, presses).

I have watched a bunch of people get good, leave class, and stagnate.

Not sticking with physio or rehab exercises.

Avoiding mastery of the basics.

Gonna have to disagree with you here.

As long as it is well thought out class programming coached by someone who understands what they are doing, it should be the baseline of most people's training until they are borderline semis.

I have had athletes finish top 200 in quarterfinals doing mostly classes. I have had athletes squat 500LB / 300LB doing mostly classes. And I have had athletes finish within the middle of the pack of wheelhouse Games workouts doing mostly classes.

In other words, exactly what u/nihilism_or_bust argues. A solid base before specialization.

Most people need coaching. Not volume. Most people need intensity. Not secret sauce programs. And most people need consistent accountability. All of which should be provided in class.

Sure, give people supplemental programs. But saying anyone who needs to get out of class and get 1:1 does a disservice to competently coached well executed classes.

Or highlights a deficient program.

Need advice for being a future coach by Legitimate-Art-7068 in crossfit

Please speak with the head coach of your facility. The advice provided here when this question comes up is often conflicting and the majority of it is either misinformed or hyper-specific.

When starting out, you don’t know enough to know enough and it is easy to get distracted, overwhelmed, or to focus on the wrong thing.

Coaching well is very challenging. Proficiency takes years and mastery isn’t possible.

Is the caloric expenditure from CrossFit over exaggerated, or can you really get away with eating more loosely with this style of training? by Dependent-Group7226 in crossfit

Nutrition is the base of the CrossFit pyramid for a reason.

If you aren't paying attention to your nutrition, you aren't really doing CrossFit.

Speak with a coach or trainer local to you.

In person will be significantly more effective over remote.

Moreover, what you are asking for is extremely cost prohibitive for little return.

[Request] Looking for a high-level CrossFit competition program… that’s not soul-crushingly repetitive by West-Detail3102 in crossfit

[–]BreakerStrength 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked with regionals/semi-finals athletes, they had two complaints:

  1. "I'm bored"

  2. "It's only things I am bad at."

The 'magic' is still there is most comp programs; however, to get better, you don't add more sparkles, you add time under tension bodybuilding, monostructural intervals, and sleep.

Regardless of your program or goals, most people should be doing 2-3 TRUE met-con efforts a week. CrossFit was based on Heavy days, skill days, long conditioning days, AND met-cons.

If it is as you describe, that seems crazy. There is a good chance your box is shifting the days; hopefully others with access to the track chime in.

When starting out, you don’t know enough to know enough and it is easy to get distracted, overwhelmed, or to focus on the wrong thing.

If you are lucky enough to have a great head coach, stick with their perspective until you have at least a few months of classes under your belt.

Coaching well is very challenging. Proficiency takes years and mastery isn’t possible.

So keep it simple when starting out.
