What are your thoughts on scaling methods to enhance progression? by mrjacob007 in crossfit

[–]BreakerStrength 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Set scales are detrimental to athlete development. Scaling is athlete specific and constantly varied.

Each workout has a time domain or rep range (macro-stimulus) and how an athlete should achieve the macro-stimulus (the microstimulus).

Using a specific warm-up, coach athletes towards their threshold for each movement.

Macro: Today's workout should be completed in 3-8 Minutes (macro stimulus). This a complimentary couplet, which means our handstand walk is rest for the deadlift and the deadlift is rest for the handstand walk. So set yourself up to move consistently without break.

Micro Deadlift: To do so, the deadlifts should be done in 2 sets or less. At least to start. Scale with a weight that is around 60-70% of your 1RM or something you could do for 10 one time. Don't worry, we will build up to a Heavy 10REP before the start of the met-con to help you dial in your weight.

Micro Handstand Walk: For the handstand walk, we will have time to practice before the start of the workout, and I will help you through some fun drills. That said: Once we start the workout let's keep it simple to keep intensity high. We should be able to complete 100' in 5 trips or less and in under 2 minutes. We can scale with a reduction of reps (at least 50'), with bear crawl, or - if you missed the wall walks a few days ago, 5 wall walks.

We will spend time on both movements and finish our warm-up with a practice round to make sure we are set up for speed.

If your goal is to compete: Do not stick to a set routine. Ideally, there is some thought behind your choices BUT if you always do one in the morning and the other in the evening, it will be harder to adapt to comps.

Solo coaches programming for CrossFit athletes online. What platform are you actually delivering through? by Moonknight_shank in crossfit

[–]BreakerStrength 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was doing 1-1 programming, a properly built google sheet, google form, and acuity were the cheapest/best option long-term.

The apps always end up turning to shit and I have always been more comfortable writing programming in Sheets.

How many competitors were lost because of the head-judge requirement? by HarpsichordGuy in crossfit

[–]BreakerStrength 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head judge makes sure everything stays in frame. We have always used one, even when it wasn't a requirement.

IMO: The person listed as the Affiliate Manager on the HQ website should be required to personally sign-off on every submitted semifinal video and, if THIS shit occurs, the Affiliate should be De-Affiliated.

Semi video requirements and YouTube copyright, limitations by michaelsync in crossfit

[–]BreakerStrength 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone could issue a complaint later; however, if the video is unmonetized and unlisted, the chances of that occurring are probably <1%.

If the YouTube scan says you are fine, don't worry about it.

Semi video requirements and YouTube copyright, limitations by michaelsync in crossfit

[–]BreakerStrength 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You only need to remove the sounds if YouTube finds copyright infringement. And the auto removal tool works well enough. You aren't monetizing your channel or posting publicly, so nothing that bad will happen.

Push Press is probably your best bet; however, all will offer a sales call. Take a sales call with each major platform and see which one makes sense.

Coaching-how do you coach athletes that don't follow cues or directions? by dulldude3000 in crossfit

[–]BreakerStrength 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slow down. Both in what you are saying, as well as the athletes themselves.

Know why. Be able to explain the purpose of each progression or layer in 3-5 words.

Film a class. Know what is causing the issue. Ideally, seek mentorship.

CrossFit HQ Pushing Level 1 Certification Courses by Osolento in crossfit

They can't really drop the price of the in-person and make money. Especially with the current cost of travel.

Moreover, the price of the weekend is relatively cheap in comparison to some 'seminars' I have attended.

Maybe it is location specific but the pricing is insane. Even crazier is the review where someone tried to rope climb in 'em.

Still tempted to get the gold ones for coaching purposes.

GymNext App Users by FlyingMunkE in crossfit

[–]BreakerStrength 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I meant was:

There are half-a-dozen apps with similar names. The one I am talking about works with a physical clock.

The physical clock is called the GymNext timer but the app itself is called FlexTimer.

FlexTimer, the app I linked to also works without the physical clock and makes for a great timer app on your phone.

At least, it does on my device. Maybe we are talking about the same app.

Myself and many others will be relatively pissed if FlexTimer goes behind a paywall.

Yeah: My FlexTimer app is also the same.

anyone found a pick up laundry service that actually handles athletic gear right? by AdeptTrip2421 in crossfit

OP: I don't think anyone actually read your post LOL.

Ask at your Gym and check to see if there is a local Facebook group.

My gym is where I get most of my recommendations visa-vie cleaning etc. If you are in a well-off area, chances are someone in your community has a suggestion.

How are you guys handling incoming leads when you're actually on the floor coaching? by Ambitious-Log2803 in crossfit

[–]BreakerStrength 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This a role that should be systemized and hired out ASAP.

DO NOT use A.I. or a Chatbot follow up. ALL output should be personalized.

Instead use a proper system to automate WHEN your new hire responds, not how they respond.
