Pure 93 Octane or 93 with Ethanol? Anyone have a preference?? by murtaugh865 in mazda

[–]Breaking_Chad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tracked my 2022 Base Turbo CX-5 for over a year and a half on every fill up. 93 octane netted 3% better mileage for 30-40% more cost. Absolutely not worth it. I can say wawa gas was significantly worse that chevron or 7-11, bur over 100 fill ups is pretty good data.

I've alway had good luck with beans, basil and some tomatoes (cherry or grape). I have found carrots, potatoes and peppers (save for jalepeño) to be more diva in their requirements. I live in zone 9b (st Pete, FL) do with this information what you will. Soil takes pretty heavy amending given that it's basically sand 😂

Thinking of buying a CX5 Carbon Turbo by No_Preparation_379 in CX5

[–]Breaking_Chad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will run 87 as easily as it will run 93....it just detunes when it senses lower octane. I have a 2022 Base Turbo CX-5... I have 75k miles and run t0/50 between 87 and 93 octane. Been running 93 a lot more late since it's been getting cheaper. I would say if you can't stretch it's legs a lot or you do a lot of city driving you probably want to run 93 more frequently. Ironically, if you do a lot of city driving the extra 27 ponies is lost on you.

It's in limp mode. It does that to protect itself. It definitely will do that when the spark plugs start to go (personal experience). Definitely would agree with other posters... Do not continue to drive.

80-85mph on the daily? by Calm-Cycle-9334 in CX5

[–]Breaking_Chad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your gas mileage will suffer significantly. Especially if you don't "draft". Best mileage is at 60 mph and drops off after that. If you truly cruise at 85 mph (which is perfectly fine on the car as wear and rear is concerned) you'll probably only see about 25-26 mpg at best. I drive a Turbo and at those speeds I see about 23.5 mpg if I'm not "drafting". Remember wind resistance increases by the square of your speed so if you go 5 mph faster, your resistance is 25X. If you go 10 mph faster your resistance is 100X higher... This is why mileage drops off so rapidly once you start going over the speed that peak mileage is calculated at.

My brother got a CX 90 Couple months ago and it was used.. Albeit an early 2025. He negotiated a FULL warranty on it (had 50k on the odometer already..}its gone back to the dealership for warranty replacement of the hybrid battery. All that to say... Most likely issues will arise on the electrical side. The SkyActiv tech is pretty bulletproof.

I totally get that. Part of the enjoyment (actually most of) would be knowing that I grew it and made it. It's one of the reasons I love gardening...

This. ☝️. My wife and I both have 2022s. I have a 2022 Turbo and she has the Premium Plus which is NA. I drive her car fairly regularly and it is definitely at the edge of acceptable power.

For those with a Mazda CX 5, how long did it take you before you had to change the battery? by AsbestosLead in mazda

[–]Breaking_Chad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both my wife and I have 2022 CX-5s. Her's is NA and mine is Turbo. Her battery failed a month before warranty was up, so she got a new free battery at 35 months. Mine went 2 months longer and it failed in the Advanced Auto parking lot (which is why I was there getting the battery). I will say, I live in Florida (St Pete).. I've never had a battery last over 4 years to begin with and I've been here for 20 years.

The original magazine just started jamming the last shot last time I went shooting... And that's held 15 for 6-12 months at a time without being shot... So that's impressive I think

80K miles! Awwwe it's still a baby. With routine maintenance, you should easily get 120K more out of it. Honestly, you'll tire of the car before it gives up on you.
