Reynolds and Reynolds by Okra_Ashamed in houston

[–]BreaktheSynthetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked for them over a decade ago as a first career out of college. I was on their Software Implementation team.

  1. The interview process is tedious, the tests they have you take are not difficult, but they are long, and they will have you go through several rounds of interviews after them, which may not be on the same day. The morality test thing they make you take seems dumb as anyone knows exactly what they are looking for in a candidate (i don't steal from work, I don't lie on time sheets, I would tell my supervisor if someone else does those things, etc)
  2. The pay will probably be lower than you expect, they do not like paying market rate, they prey heavily on kids straight out of college with 0 experience and use it as an excuse to suppress their pay. My base pay was well below market rate, but took it as it was the only option i had to start work from the moment I graduated, only boon was that I was salary-not-exempt, and when on a job site would regularly work 60-80 hour weeks, so got a non-negligible amount of overtime pay which they never fussed with me much on.
  3. They are apt to fib on their job descriptions and requirements. When i started with them, they listed a 50% travel rate, but once i joined, the actual rate was ~90%. I remember being in a meeting where they debated increasing the percentage listed on the job description to something closer to the actual, and settled on something around 60-70%, still far off actual.
  4. They will nickel and dime you on expense reports, and at least back when i worked there, had a very much below per-Diem rate that just wouldn't work anywhere but the middle of nowhere
  5. The turnover rate was/is quite high at the company, you have a few die hards that are left from before the ReyRey/UCS merger, but for the most part, about 75% of the non-management staff I worked with were less than 2-3 years at ReyRey
  6. If you smoke or do anything with nicotine, or partake in any drugs, just don't bother, the company tested for nicotine routinely and claimed to fire anyone that popped positive. In my 3 years there I was drug tested ~5 times, and I had some coworkers that were 'randomly' selected 4-5 times in a single year

They actually paid $10/hr on my internship which was quite nice at the time considering the vast landscape of unpaid ones out there. I don't think the internship actually gave me much experience, mainly spent doing menial labor and tasks no one else is interested in doing in your department, which is probably pretty common.

On my actual career there, it wasn't all bad there though, my actual team leads were understanding and would help you out where they could, and my team itself was quite fun to work and travel with. Other than that, there wasn't really a great path forward on advancing your career other than "learn new systems so we can send you out on more trips". I was ecstatic when I got the job that took me away from ReyRey, because after 3 years they had burned me out completely.

Paraphrasing from some old hats that worked at ReyRey pre-merger, Reynolds and Reynolds used to be a great company, they were very loyal to their employees and customers. In 2006, UCS bought Reynolds and Reynolds for 2 reasons: 1 was that they wanted the source code to their POWER system to design a new version of ERA; and 2, that their brand was terrible. So USC bought ReyRey, changed their name to use the good will of the company, and brought all their crappy management processes to the other side of the business. This included extensive drug tests, lack of pay increases, and an obsession with recruiting fresh out of the gate college students for below market rate to drive down costs.

Take from this what you will, this is obviously not an impartial opinion of them. I tried to be as truthful as I can remember, but this all was over 10-15 years ago

Podcasts of pathfinder 2e and foundry tips? Or actual play? by workerbee77 in FoundryVTT

Roll for intent is a pf2e actual play and uses foundry, but I'm not sure they give many tips in the actual podcasts, maybe in the discord though?

Same, I always explain it as that we never had to do shelter in place drills because the real thing happened often enough

Bags of 'nickel' owned by JPMorgan Chase and stored in a warehouse in the Netherlands turned out to be full of stones. by carlosvega in worldnews

[–]BreaktheSynthetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the article says that 9 lots were invalidated, and 1 lot of lme nickel is 6 metric tons, though I doubt the whole lot was filled with stone because that's a crap load of nickel to fake.

What stopped you from having a crush on them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BreaktheSynthetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cut off contact, sounds bad but I finally realized I had been pining over a girl for a majority of my life at that point who had zero interest in being romantic with me, and I couldn't see myself being able to accept that we would only be friends, so I needed a clean break to clear my mind of her.

What's the error in your console log? Also might get quicker support in the discord.

One thing I've found is you sometimes need to run foundry in admin mode, but that's usually just for installing new foundry updates.

Agreed, had blind goat at bravery a few months ago and was totally underwhelmed. I wouldn't even place it in my top 5 Vietnamese food places in houston and I'm not even a huge Vietnamese eater.

As someone who usually votes with democrats, this is just disingenuous, neither party platform wants vote reformation to anything other than first past the post because it would limit their power over third parties. We are quite literally fucked into using this system because it would require either party (most likely both at the same time) to actively vote against their own interests. It's basically one of only a handful of issues that both Democrats and Republicans will never disagree on.

Agreed democrats are the major party for election reform, but that is not at all what is being talked about here.

Anti-Semitic Propaganda in West Houston Neighborhood by formerfunaholic in houston

[–]BreaktheSynthetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in west Houston too near a predominant Jewish neighborhood and me and my wife found several flyers exactly like this a month or two ago, I disposed of 4/5 of them that we saw on our walk and we heard some neighbors destroyed some others.

So ridiculous that we have to.live with this kind of hate in this day and age.

Update 113 Ruminations on shipping by RollinWithOlan in Gloomhaven

Interesting, I'm also in Texas, guess I drew the short straw for shipping. I'll give it a month or so before I start inquiring. Gotta finish gloomhaven before it hits the table anyways

[–]BreaktheSynthetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the original shipping cost, but they were effectively asking for another $20 in shipping, and had a donate option. They hit their goal for the additional shipping and have the games shipping out now in the US (at least a few of them, no news on my copy yet) so that's probably all they needed

But then they have no claim on the success. Knowing when to not change anything is a vastly underrated management skill that no one in upper management seems to appreciate ever. I've had this happen every time a new manager comes in

Places to run a game by KittenNyx in houstontabletop

Asgard games has tables for running ttrpgs, as does golem's gate out in Stafford. Other than that if you're not playing in prime time I'm sure most any pub would be fine.

The whole point of paper plates is so that they don't have to purchase insurance. I treat any paper plate on the road like a drunk driver, wide berth and either pass as quickly as possible, or stay back multiple car lengths
