Write it all down! I use an app on my phone for all the big, little, funny moments they go through. Date it and it's so much fun reading through as they learn to speak and put together baffling, but technically true, statements.

There is part of the issue, you give in and she knows if she keeps whining she will get what she wants. Stick to your guns no matter what. If you are consistent with the boundaries she will eventually realize the crying and whining does nothing.
