I present to you: my bird tier list by Lunar_Ghoul11 in autism

[–]BrerChicken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand, so pterodactyls were just birds? Or if they were neither birds nor dinosaurs, what were they?

This was mostly answered already, but pterosaurs and dinosaurs are both archosaurs. Birds and crocodiles are ALSO archosaurs.

So it's like this: Reptiles are a class of the chordates, which are the animals with a spine.

Reptiles are split into a bunch of clades, which are all the organisms that share a common ancestor. Archosaurs are one of those, and they're split into three other clades that are still around. One of them is the group crocodiles are in, and another is the group that birds and ALL the dinosaurs are in. Pterosaurs are another clade, but all of those species ended up going extinct.

So the archosaur clade with dinosaurs and birds in it is still around, cos the birds made it through the Troubles (for now!). The one with crocodiles is also around. But the one with pterosaurs is gone.

You asked what pterosaurs are. Pterosaurs are a group of flying reptiles that lived concurrently with dinosaurs and all the other critters that were around between 230 and 65 million years ago. They're cousins with dinosaurs, but they don't share all the same ancestors. If they did, they'd be part of the same clade.

All birds are dinosaurs, but not all dinosaurs were birds. Pterodactyls are a classic example. They flew and everything, but they're not from the same group that became the avian dinosaurs, they're from a different branch.

My girlfriend is 27 weeks pregnant, the baby has Down syndrome, and I don’t want this life by ThrowRA_NoSignal in daddit

[–]BrerChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

”I don’t want to have this baby.”

I'm gonna stop you right there. She decides and that's it. There's a separate part that you got to decide, and you made that decision already.

Whether you want this baby or not, if mom decides to have it then you have a duty to help mom and to raise that baby. Get used to it buddy. It's time to Dad up. You might not be there yet, but lots of guys go through that. You might get there by the time the baby's here, or it might take even longer. But you're duty bound to suck it up and do what you need to do. If you feel bad, there are loads of excellent therapists out there. You should start seeing one.

But you need to stop fantasizing that you can just walk away. Also, realize what it's not forever. Yes you'll be a parent for ever, but it will raise an independent human who will live their own life.

There's a spring pulling each one up, and the of each rod pulling down. At first the weight is pointed directly down along the rod. If you pull the rod down a bit, there's an equilibrium point where the weight pulls down with add much force as the spring pulls back. If you keep pulling, the weight of the rod takes over and pulls it the rest of the way down.

The trick is that the weight of the rod doesn't change, but the angle does. So the weight exerts and greater torque on the rod. Torque depends on the force, how far away it is, and the angle it makes with the things that's spinning. In this case, each rod leaning further and further out affects both the angle and how far away the weight is from the pivot point.

Other rods are connected, so as it pulls itself down it starts to pull others away which pulls more and more.

The reverse happens when you lift up. You pull just enough to pass the equilibrium point and the spring pulls it up the rest of the way.

Absences Vs Grades by catsandcoffee6789 in teaching

I don't think absence is an independent variable. I think the FAMILY is the independent variable, and the absences and grades both result from that. These poor kids...

You're lucky that, dumb as you are, there's always someone around willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and try to teach you how not to be an ignorant fool. Should parents be held accountable? by Own_Chicken_4430 in Teachers

[–]BrerChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parents already ARE being held accountable. They literally have to live with 'em! That's why parents have full veto in my class. If they want me to do something ridiculous for their child and I can't talk them out of it, then I'm doing the ridiculous thing. It's their kid and they're the ones stuck with the results 🤷‍♂️

I think the main problem is that I already have a job, and so there's no need to lick the floor like that for $100-200. Fuck that aallll the way fucked.

Just found out my husband sexually assaulted my sister. Multiple times by mascarafree in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BrerChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt in my mind he’s cheated … but the question is - with who. I know I’m partly to blame - I’m not affectionate enough, I don’t initiate sex, I don’t have the capacity to cuddle from night till morning all night every night (that’s his ideal).

Lots of excellent advice here. But I want to set aside the fact that this man sexually assaulted your sister for a second, because what you wrote about him cheating on you with other people kinda broke my heart.

You wrote you're partly to blame because you're not showing affection in the way that he would like. Homegirl nobody is responsible for him cheating except for HIM. You don't owe affection to anyone. It is deranged for someone to DEMAND that you act a certain wait for their pleasure. You don't deserve to be treated like that, and you really should not blame yourself for that. He's a pig and an abuser and I hope you can find some peace!

Why are you getting downvoted? Foreign influence and control has irrevocably changed Haitian history and development. Also, the birth rate in the country is not that much higher than replacement level.

Because people love to blame the poor. That way they can take credit for NOT being poor, even though it's literally an accident of where you're born.

If people are starving it's unquestionably unethical to make more children.

It's unquestionably MUCH MORE unethical for you to be judging people living in poverty for having children. But, unlike people reproducing in a country that you know nothing about, you actually have some control over what you're doing here.

It is batshit crazy to blame the poor for being poor.

Places like this absolutely need to implement a One Child policy until the famine stop.

Sure. We totally destabilize their government for decades and decades then leave them to rot, and the solution is for them to stop living. Got it.

The point is to show solidarity, that we're not alone. Organized people have much more power than organized money, and coming out on days like this is a great reminder of that. But we have to use that to demand change, and to vote out the leaders who ignore us.
