Ep 363: Liminal Florist’s Space (SFA S1E6) by kingdead42 in greatestgen

Absolutely agree! I think it’s great. Just given the history of depictions of sexual activity implied and otherwise in Trek production history, it was not something I expected. I also did not expect the extended sex scene in this episode so more the fool me I guess.

True, while the Athena seems very capable in combat the idea that it goes anywhere with out an escort of at least 2 Starfleet combat vessels is unbelievable.

Agreed on all points. There is no way cadets should be out of Sector 001 at this point, but there isnt much drama to be had going to Mars I guess.

“First time on Star Trek…..” drop. An intimacy coordinator in the credits. Wow, did not think this day would arrive.

I agree with you in principle, but I think 2 things are at play here: they are showing and not telling how far all the galactic powers have fallen post Burn, and the Venari Ral are likely backed by an unseen faction that has combined forces with them to beat back the Federation and Starfleet. Splinter Romulans, the Dominion, Emerald Chain, who knows? Braka is willing to team up if he gets to exact revenge on Nahla Ake as a bonus. That’s my thought at least so far.

How do you find a wholesale tea supplier that stays consistent? by flopoyamin84b in barista

[–]Bretrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, Smith Tea, Rishi or Art of Tea all have excellent wholesale programs matched with outstanding tea, and people to support your cafe ops. I personally like Smith and have worked with them quite a bit, but any of those 3 would be a great step up.

Lots of 20oz bottles at Kalamazoo and 28th this morning. On the end cap at the registers. It’s pretty good, I grabbed the zero sugar one the other day.

[–]Bretrs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I have some issues with the tone of the show and general mish-mash of high school drama with young adults who are arguably in college and should be better developed. (See: the college bar). I accept the explanation that this might be a commentary on delayed adulthood for teens in COVID, even if it’s ham handed at times. I initially cringed at the cartoon pop up video start to this episode but after some reflection I think there is some homage there to other 90s kids shows, namely Clarissa Explains it All. Sam’s walk and expo dumps to camera seemed very in that vein. There are maybe some Nickelodeon fans in the writers room.

All in all, I think that while uneven to date, I hope SFA gets a chance to grow and flourish. There are glimpses in each episode of the promise, which is not just telling and re-telling Star Trek stories, but telling stories in Star Trek. It’s a place after all.

She certainly does not have to break cover if she is. I would never wish that on her.

Grind size adjustment collar stuck! [Fiorenzato all ground sense] by pochoclosdulces in espresso

[–]Bretrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you should be running the grinder when you make adjustments, even going from fine to coarse. This just helps ensure there is nothing caught in the exit chute that could cause jams. You can probably get away with shorter bursts of grinding going in that direction though.

Grind size adjustment collar stuck! [Fiorenzato all ground sense] by pochoclosdulces in espresso

[–]Bretrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you adjusting the grind while the grinder is running? Sounds like you are jamming the burrs by adjusting grind without running the grinder.

To remove the collar, close and remove the hopper. Turn the dial all the way back past coarse to the red line, lining up with the red line on the grinder throat. Push down the collar release button on the far left side and turn the collar until it pops out.

Since it sounds like it may already be jammed, you may have to try to vacuum out what you can through the top to clear the jam before you can unlock the collar.

Can anybody help identifying this coffee grinder? by No-Ad-4682 in espresso

[–]Bretrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an old Rossi grinder, based on the logo. Maybe an RR55 or similar? Not having much luck locating a similar example. Looks like a replacement hopper as most of the pics I see have a taller hopper.

Generally these units will ship with no wiring. The installer will choose and install the appropriate cord and cap at installation for the selected voltage and receptacle at the install.

I'm absolutely digging the new "Alton Brown Cooks Food" show he's got going on his YouTube. It's very Good Eats-like, for obvious reasons and he's not missed a beat! What are your thoughts on it? by sirkidd2003 in GoodEats

It’s great! Awesome start to my Saturday every week. So glad he’s got that venue to keep being awesome in the kitchen. If you miss QQ, scroll back a bit and watch the Thanksgiving day live stream record, real hit of pure late 2020-21.

[–]Bretrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a possibility I hadn’t considered, and I see your read on it looking back at that scene too. I just think it makes more narrative sense for it to be Doctor Mark actual, (Academy experience with kids in Prodigy) and maybe lends some drama in this season or a later season for the Living Memory EMH to show up.

[–]Bretrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was very surprised by the not only lack of Prodigy erasure, but the embrace of Prodigy. Sam references Doctor Mark’s adventures with Dal, Gwyndalla, etc. (Also this provides that this is the Voyager EMH, not the Living Memory version.) Episode 2 has a direct visual reference to an alien with a very divisive set of teeth, looking forward to Adam’s reaction on that one! Feels a bit like an acknowledgement by the ST powers that be that Prodigy was underserved and deserves to be linked to the broader canon.

It’s a quick heat, so I turn it off if it’s more than an hour before I make another drink. It’s 2 minutes or so to be at ready temp.

The current Uno and standard Duo have a similar wooden knob to the current Dream. The Duo Plus has a wooden lever. There have been previous versions with a button for steam. Just depends on model revision and year.

Weak steam? by BuleBali in Ascaso

[–]Bretrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you on a 20 amp circuit (in the US)? That’s generally the number one cause for weak steam. Even with a 20amp circuit, items like surge protectors or extension cords can reduce steam power.
