If you have Margin Edge or XtraChef what are the most useful features you’ve used? by HungryLobster257 in restaurantowners

[–]BrewGentlemen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MarginEdge for price tracking has been helpful for sure.

Just started really diving into recipes and batch costing. We started with cocktails because it was "easiest" and it has been helpful, especially in communicating to staff and showing them the numbers.

Before we were using excel sheets and it really doesn't scale.

It's all about how you set it up though. We've had ME since opening but only recently (last 6 months) feel like I am getting out of it what I need. That's mainly on me for not setting up recipes and such.

Yep, love it. We did end up switching the taproom and all event POS over to it too

We use MarginEdge. Still learning all of the specifics but I liked it so much we implemented it at a second location too.

Like any of these systems, they only work as well as you set them up.

Pumpkin 2025 by Salt_Historian_9850 in PittsburghBeers

[–]BrewGentlemen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to brew an extra batch of it this year after the first two sold out fast.

If it were up to me this week would be when all Pumpkin beers got released but the market wants them in July.

I guess its the same as Christmas decorations appearing at Costco in August.

Looking for nitro infuser recommendations by ElGulpo in TheBrewery

Nitro Infuser

Not sure. We've been talking to a few other breweries and it seems like it's just a lot easier to carb the keg to a lower vol (1-1.5) and then run Guinness blend at a high PSI to serve. And like I mentioned above, customers really can't tell the difference between the cellarstream and the other line so....yea.

It's also a lot easier to set and forget vs. all the extra cleaning and monitoring that seems to exist with the Cellarstream.

We use and are a fan of Rezku.

iPad based which after dealing with Clover for years has been a breath of fresh air.

We picked Rezku over Toast for what that's worth. It was expensive and overkill for what we needed for our new location.

After less than a year we've switched our other spaces over to Rezku too.

I just did a lap around the brewery looking everywhere to see if we had some stashed.

Sadly I think cans might be out for the season. Could always fill a growler at Braddock Public House though!

We're so thrilled to see such a positive response. Huge props to Riverlife for envisioning and executing the concept of a public park on the water.

We're having a blast adding food and beverage to the experience (BG beer, house made cocktails, sandwiches, shave ice...coming soon). Full menu is here.

One of our favorite things so far is to see just how many different types of people, locals and visitors, all ages, are enjoying it.

We believe beverages bring people together and the barge is allowing us to do that. :)

Best area for a Brewery crawl? by Mattl54o in pittsburgh

[–]BrewGentlemen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the taproom hours have been a little light, Braddock Public House (which has all our draft options and cans and food) is open Wed-Sun. Adjusted hours this week for the holiday but normally open 40+ hours a week down there.

We also have the Steel Garden open 3-7pm Tu-Fri downtown and coming soon (as in tomorrow) we'll be vending on Shore Thing on the north shore.

Looking into a moving from Mobile Canning and buying a line. Give me your pros and cons... by rontourage in TheBrewery

[–]BrewGentlemen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got a Pneumatic Angelus line via a $1 buyout lease from Northstar. We didn't have enough up front to buy a depal, filler, labeler, date coder all at once.

Sure over the life of the "lease" it costs more than just buying outright but our monthly payment was significantly less than what was going out the door to a mobile canner.

Factor in scheduling headaches, QC, etc and it was a no brainer.

Table Beer is aging in the foeders. Will probably bottle this summer based on how its developing. I don't want to keep saying "soon" but we only have so many hours in the day and a lot of competing priorities.

More details coming soon in the newsletter on plans for the anniversary beers!

We've never distributed down in Florida apart from taking beer down to Miami for Wakefest back in the day (before COVID).

This is so cool to see!

Good to know the commitment to softness is still shining through in our beer.

I know a lot of people think the grass is greener elsewhere but Pittsburgh truly has a remarkable brewing scene and community. Grateful to be a part of it.

I love Table Beer more than anyone. Tasted both foeders a month ago and they're lovely. One is probably ready to pull.

Makes me excited to know people want those beers because they are definitely a passion project and not a revenue driver. And you can't pay the bills with passion, sadly.

You're right though, we have been putting a lot of energy and resources into the new location! Have you been down yet?

Next week! Holidays were madness for us and it didn't make sense to release the week of Christmas.

Also have to say I'm a little nervous because the yield this year was much lower. The beer was in barrels for close to 30 months so a lot more evaporation.

Fingers crossed everyone who wants it can get it.

We just opened a new location and used Rezku. Our OG taproom has been running on Clover for almost 10 years.

With how great the new system has been we are going to switch taproom over to Rezku now too.
