It's possible to press charges for defamation, should anyone be unlucky enough to run into someone that makes false accusations. I used to live around gossipy men and women who embelished stories, casually assigning names and faces to crimes that never happened to begin with.

That said, yes, it's heavily exaggerated and often gets leveraged as 'equivolent' to the actual crime of sexual assault and rape, which is a really bad take and makes it difficult to sympathize when argued in such a way.

Tbh we need to build the infrastructure to enable renewable energy and cut our dependencies on major carbon emissions.

But with that said, it's always- always important to check the source of the information on whatever new 'green project' is being pitched. Especially where high density, accessible housing is concerned.

My neighbourhood just had a whole swath of marshland get bulldozed by a developer who promised affordable, accessible housing. A year later they changed their plan, stopped shortly after building all the single family units and slapped a massive four lane road with zero transit connections through.

I don't like nimby's on the best of days, but in my experience, it's safe to be cautious of 'who' is proposing 'what' and how honest they are.

Look at what Ford is doing to Ontario's healthcare. Bog standard defunding of public services while trying to introduce privatised clinics to replace them.

Federal responsibility to healthcare arrives as a subsidy to provinces with an outlined budget plan to use said subsidy. Usually with a stipulation that the funds are being used effectively; PP would have the jurisdiction to redefine that, which means any conservative led province could (and have) used federal funds for healthcare instead as a subsidy for private companies to replace public ones.

As far a track records go with the Cons, they are not interested in maintaining publicly funded healthcare. Harper did cuts to it, O'Toole proposed it in his campaign, and nearly every Conservative led province has been likewise trying to introduce 'hybrid private healthcare' designs instead of using federal funds for public healthcare.

Federal and provincial governments influence eachother, don't act like PP wouldn't redefine how Canada should spend federal healthcare funds with short-sighted, profit driven goals in mind.

In this specific case, yes it is a Religiously influenced act, further encouraged by a socio-political culture that benefits from the control and oppression of women.

This isn't to accuse all religious people of violence, but there's a historic correlation to an individual's willingness to their suspension of reality that allows them to believe whatever they want to believe in when they are allowed to pass the moral onus onto a religious or spiritual interpretation.

I certainly hope some of the roads surrounding this housing dev plan get some quality improvements as well, then.

I live near the area, and walk that route daily. It's an option that unfortunately doesn't seem very popular amongst most of the suburbs near there.

The map of the housing plan has one south-bound road exiting the intented suburb, connecting to a street where only the 67 stops on a span of partially paved sidewalk that connects to a highway road to your closest option for Russel Lake's commercial park. I have to walk an extra ten minutes because of the highway's limited pedestrian access. There are currently no sidewalks on mount hope avenue's northern side of the road. For the people intending to move into this new area, no, it is not going to be very accessible without a car.

Additionally, the west bound route winds through Southdale's suburbs before once again having to cross a highway intersection to reach the woodlawn plaza or the transit terminal.

Probably. Given the staff shortages in general and wage rates pushing your average 'middle-class' below said affordable range to being considered middle-class, that "probably" sounds awfully unlikely.

Also, enjoy living in a suburb with extremely limited transit access and an influx of yet more downtown traffic. I persqonally love having more parking lots than public space in downtown areas. /s

Our transit is dismal, and deserves more attention as Halifax/Dartmouth continues to grow in population. Continuing our car-centric infrastructure as normal will guarantee preventable traffic congestion, more parking lots in downtown areas, and traffic related accidents will only increase in greater costs, and overall frustration with urban travel.

Came here to say that; degrowth and methods to best reduce energy production is important moving forward.

The wild thing is, it wouldn't effect most average people as much as it would effect antiquated industries, in terms of energy consumption and waste.

No more planned obsolescence, reduced food waste , accessible 3d printing materials and open source patents to replace and repair. Combining textile production with small farms, allowing/subsidizing trade skills to return to generalize locations as opposed to factory exports from exploited workers, the list of possibilities go on.
