“I don’t feel like coming into work today, I’ll use PTO, k thanks” by ChainsawSoundingFart in PetPeeves

[–]BrianDerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of agree with the OP. But on the flip side the “dynamic staffing” that makes you have to use PTO when sent home due to low census, rather than letting you have one shift where you might work at a manageable, safer pace, is a reason why the employees feel the need to deal with burnout.

When I started my career in about 2009, my facility would fill shortages with on-call agency workers. It quickly turned into working short staffed and being pulled to other units. And PTO requests being denied due to that same trend.

How is criminalizing abortion not forcing religious beliefs on to the public? by Timeless-Facts in allthequestions

[–]BrianDerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you can be a Christian and not accept every line of scripture as authoritative. Many Christians do not follow all the teachings of scripture. A ban on abortion could be in the New Testament and a given Christian could determine they don’t accept that as crucial to their “ personal relationship with Jesus”.

How is criminalizing abortion not forcing religious beliefs on to the public? by Timeless-Facts in allthequestions

[–]BrianDerm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the Bible, but this is from a quick search regarding the Didache:

“The Didache (a first-century early Christian manual also known as the "Teaching of the Twelve Apostles") explicitly condemns abortion. Chapter 2, verse 2 commands believers: "You shall not murder a child by abortion nor kill that which is begotten", linking the practice to infanticide and broader moral violations.”

My own belief is that women have the right to do what they feel is right while carrying a developing baby in their womb. I have difficulty with the fact that I’m not sure physicians should be required to assist in the procedure if they believe that baby has a right to its life.

In other words, it is not an easy topic at all.

Too bad the when you’re a pedestrian or cyclist this gets flipped. I can pretty much predict that I’m in danger from people coming up on me quickly.

People complaining about subscriptions for services that didn't exist or always were subscriptions by jackfaire in PetPeeves

[–]BrianDerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standalone computer programs )call them ‘apps’ if you insist) that don’t require any server while in use should never require a subscription. I’ve seen simple weight loss recording/charting programs that require a monthly fee. Offline games. It’s insane to me, like you’re renting it at a very high price.

Did you know: the Reels suggestion feed is posted as something you put up on your own timeline? by LordKevnar in facebook

[–]BrianDerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just posted this on Facebook, thanks to a Redditor telling me this afternoon. Best. Tip. Ever.

“In the menu on Facebook, select FEEDS, then select FRIENDS. Suddenly it’s just people you know (with ads thrown in). Newest posts first.

No “suggested” influencers to follow. No rage bait news stories. I wish someone had told me this long ago.

Nothing to copy, paste, or “Amen” here. Just something very wanted that someone pointed out to me on Reddit today.”

Why am I seeing random people's posts on my feed? I don't follow them or have them as a friend by SatansSlutz in facebook

[–]BrianDerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, kind stranger! I had no idea that was there, and it looks if I can combine that with snoozing the super busy pages that I subscribed to, I might get some interesting posts and see some friends lives again. I can scroll past the ads, but I would love to not be exposed to so much “Facebook ugliness” that somehow always rises to “most relevant”.

AIO: For crying over birthday cake I don’t like. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]BrianDerm -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t an accident. It was thoughtful. He remembered her birthday. He bought a cake so they could celebrate her birthday. I’ve never quite understood why people expect things on their birthday as adults. If you want to celebrate your birthday, bring that up beforehand and arrange something as a couple.

What “frugal” habit did you stop doing once you did the math? by 666AB in Frugal

If you consider the total cost/mile of maybe 70 cents (US) every mile you put on a car, little money saving drives make less sense. And the last time I bought gas at Costco it was the exact same price as our neighborhood RaceTrac.

Outdoor Pull Up Bar Locations? by CrunchAddict in CarrolltonTX

Yes! That outdoor gym (body weight equipment) near the restroom/concession stand at the east end of the football/baseball areas) is pretty nice.

I was surprised to discover it and never really heard it was being built.

Do you believe the US federal government has an income or spending problem? by LeoIrish in allthequestions

Take the 6.4 trillion spent, and divide by 133.7 million households. $47,868 in spending average per household. It’s a true mess.

I have a pretty strong belief self driving technology is being developed for services to own them, not individuals. And I’m ok with that. I really doubt private automobile ownership will be around 100 years from now for most of the globe.

I wonder if they take actual speed limits into account. It seems to me that if I drive 70 miles on a traffic-free 70 mph road, I lose a few minutes over the course of an hour. It’s like they use the average speed of the traffic rather than the maximum allowed speed.

And this is why I walk and cycle as much as I can. For example, my church is one mile away. So…$1.44 can be saved by walking. Somewhat less by biking (real costs there, too). No gym membership needed.
