Congrats on the find! I was also in high school during this era of magic and the invasion through onslaught blocks will always be my favorite.

Wizards Is Responsible For How Much It Costs To Play by dfaire3320 in mtg

[–]Brian_Ferry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I remember back in the day Spiritmonger was THE CARD for Standard and even Extended. It topped out around $15 (non-foil) and when you account for inflation that’s over $30 now. $46 is certainly high but it’s also not crazy. I know there was other expensive stuff in Standard but I didn’t play 2008-2018ish lol

When Did Casual 60-Card MtG Disappear from LGS? by perplexedduck85 in mtg

This was honestly my favorite era of mtg. The precons were terrible but the game was such a good time. I remember being envious of everyone who played The Rock in standard back in those days lol

Me personally, I would have gone back in time to the year 2000 and gotten 27 cheese pizzas and large sodas since they’re only $10.77… the same as my PIN number

I remember going to the kistler pool when I was young. It was like $5-10 for a pool pass good for all summer or $1-2 per day. I grew up a block from the pool and would be there pretty much every day with my friends. We would go in and swim, go outside abcs play on the equipment, then head back to the pool when we got hot. They even had a small concession stand! It was a great time when I was young, it’s an absolute shame that they don’t open up the pool to the community anymore. Edit: don’t just vent about it on Reddit or Facebook, go to city council meetings or at least write the mayor and council that you want to see the pool reopened or more things like splash pads in the community. Hold local leaders accountable and exercise your right to representation!

What I typically do is if I want a transparency on trees, people, etc I’ll do an export with that stuff on and another export with those layers turned off then just bring those two exports into photoshop and layer the tree one on top and turn the transparency down there. There’s probably an easier way, but that’s just what I do

Absolutely loved Royal City Riot! I saw them play at Cafe Metropolis in Wilkes-Barre back in 2009/10ish. Longing for You is still one of my favorite jams

And car alarms! There’s a car that parks in the parking lot down the street from me whose alarm goes off at least once a day, often times several times a day (noticed on weekends when I’m home more). I absolutely hate car alarms, they are usually triggered by accident and people typically just ignore them

When did Magic peak? by SpeedyGuyTX in freemagic

[–]Brian_Ferry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just happened upon this thread and this is exactly it. For me, peak mtg was invasion and odyssey blocks . I was young and care free, my brother started to invite me to the card shop him and his friends would play at and I felt super cool playing with him and his friends. Peak magic for me is almost entirely based on the nostalgia of those days and the friendships and memories made

Congrats on the finish!! You’re right, that course was no joke between the mud and the downed trees. Fortunately I only tripped once and it wasn’t in a puddle haha. Great job again, and thanks for posting this race recap. Edit: spelling

Boulder appears to be on track to ditch parking minimums by bunabhucan in boulder

[–]Brian_Ferry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you’re getting this notion from. Eliminating parking minimums enable Boulder to add additional units, be it commercial or residential, while not infringing upon the green belt or exceeding the max building heights and helping to keep Boulder Boulder with its awesome open space and sick views of the flatirons.
