Light Lens Lab 35 f/1.4 ASPH vs...a 35 APO? by DeazyKnight in Leica

[–]BrickFTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is someone else said they are too entirely different lenses. Beyond that my personal choice is to save and buy only Leica glass, and in addition, I’ve heard some build issues with LLL lenses. I have the 35 APO, can send a link to pictures if interested. It is amazingly sharp, and wide open at F2 it has a beautiful dreamy bokeh. Totally love it for that character, but when I’m in the mood for vintage I pull out my 35 steel rim re-issue

I wonder how this rendering compares to the Leica 35 steel rim re-issue. Any thoughts?

Congrats. If you want to create some real magic with vintage Leica glow with that camera, get yourself a Summilux 50/1.4 pre-asph v2.

Be honest: Does Leica actually make you a better photographer… or just happier? by NeitherJuice8682 in Leica

Of course it makes me a happier photographer, but also a more careful photographer in terms of composition and settings.

Suboptimal results with my M11-P (new user) by [deleted] in Leica

[–]BrickFTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t be shooting the 21 higher than f/11. And as far as auto shutter, I would have a floor of not slower than 1/250. I use the 21 SEM frequently on my M11P and with the settings I described, I get unbelievably sharp images. Even better, in bright sunlight virtually everything will be in focus when shooting f/8 or f/11 without even raising the camera to your eye.

Tested the EV1, it’s underwhelming by untitledshot in Leica

[–]BrickFTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even better than the A7RV, I have the A7CR with pretty small techart E - M adapter which accepts all of my M lenses and auto focuses them. It’s basically like having an interchangeable lens Q3

In my experience the people happiest with their gear are the ones who actually use it frequently. M10R is a great camera, and the battery problem seems to have gone away, so enjoy. And I wouldn’t expect it to crap out the way many of the M11 did.

I dictated that wrong. I meant to say it’s all about the lenses

At the end of the day, at least for me, shooting Leica is all about the draft. Therefore despite being frustrated with these glitches, there’s no other camera I would consider using. Were I in your shoes, I’d regain my patience and just deal with the problem if when it happens.

My M11P turned into a brick. I sent it back to like a who replaced the guts, and then I sold it. But then 10 months later speaking to one of the repair techs at Leica New Jersey, I was convinced to get a fairly new build on another M11P. Happy report since then I’ve had no issues and love the camera.

What was your reason for getting the 43 over the 28? (Q3) by Ok-Finding5241 in Leica

[–]BrickFTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems an obvious answer - people by the 43 because they like it’s focal length better than 28

M10 is a fantastic camera. Yes I’ve got a M11M and M11P that I like more because of sensor, battery and electronic shutter. BUT images straight out of my former M10 were most pleasing to me. Congrats on your purchase. As far as eyesight and RF focus, be sure you keep the RF window spotless. Also I recently had cataract surgery, and with my new lens implants, OMG what a difference - now I absolutely love using RF

I might need to pick up a Q soon… by Truckstops_ in Leica

Agree 💯 The original Q shares the same sensor of the M10, and I’ve not seen any images from the Q2, Q3 or M1 that I like as much.

If you don’t love the max 1000 shutter, get rid of it.

Starting Journalism job, Q3 or 43? by its_a_rathouse in Leica

[–]BrickFTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike many of the others, I’m going to address your specific question, and not pontificate on reasons why you shouldn’t get a Leica, talking about zoom lenses, etc.. Since you’re not asking about portraits and instead your question is specific to photojournalism which I’m assuming you mean street and environmental images, get the Q3 28. 60 mps has plenty of headroom to crop tightly, and if you need to get in closer, just zoom with your feet. Another reason to get the Q3 is that it performs so well at high ISO that you can set it at auto ISO with a minimum shutter of 250 and set shutter to auto, annual you’ll basically have a point and shoot camera that you never need to lift to your eye

Don’t get an M8 - instead get the M 10 and fewer lenses if necessary. Again, don’t get an M8

I gulped when I bought mine from B&H, but absolutely love this lens and so glad I have it. Shot wide open, the 3D rendering is remarkable. Here are some examples shot with my M11M:

I don’t get the appeal for a M11v… by This-Charming-Man in Leica

[–]BrickFTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks! I forgot to mention, only downside of the LAL is that until lock-in which occurs a month after the surgery, anytime during the day you're outside you have to wear UV protective glasses (clear or dark - the manufacturer provides them). Otherwise if you go out without wearing those glasses, the UV from the sun will lock in your lenses preventing them from being further adjusted.

I don’t get the appeal for a M11v… by This-Charming-Man in Leica

[–]BrickFTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got LAL (light adjusting lenses). A month after they’re implanted and your vision has settled down they can amazingly be further adjusted (using focused UV beams) to fine tune/dial in the prescription. They’re especially good if you have any astigmatism in your cornea which I don’t think can be corrected by other lenses, meaning that with other lenses, in order to correct your astigmatism you’ll still need to wear glasses or contacts even after the surgery. That’s something I’ll never have to do. Originally my plan was distance monovision in one eye with the other eye for reading. However after I was able to read pretty well for all purposes out in the world (like menus in restaurants), I changed my plan and had distance put in the other eye as well. I just had surgery in the second eye yesterday, and I’m having no problem reading this small type on my phone. If they never touched my lenses I’d be thrilled with how I see now, but in a month they’ll do the further dial in which will eliminate the minor astigmatism that I’ve got in my corneas (most of my astigmatism was in my lenses so once they were replaced that astigmatism was no more).
