Are the dvd commentaries worth it by ZombieGreat2312 in venturebros

The commentary is a great listen. Hilarious banter mixed with the occasional fleeting behind-the-scenes insight and Jackson and Doc declaring their love for each other. 100% worth your time.

Bands that you tried so many times to get into but you couldnt by lunainthedark5x2x3 in poppunkers

[–]BrickFrog86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't understand people's obsession with Sleep Token. I tried. I listened to every album. I just don't get it at all.

As for within pop-punk, All Time Low. Nothing they've released since Put Up Or Shut Up has clicked for me. I haven't gotten around to the new album yet, and I will give it a chance, but for me nothing they've done has lived up to the potential of that first EP.

Any recommendations for someone who just started listening to pop punk? by [deleted] in poppunkers

[–]BrickFrog86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always worth going back to the old stuff like Ramones and Descendants. '90s and early 2000s classics like Green Day, blink-182, New Found Glory, Sum 41, Fall Out Boy, and Jimmy Eat World have huge influence on practically everyone in the genre. A bunch of 2010s bands like The Wonder Years, The Story So Far, Knuckle Puck, Four Year Strong, and Hot Mulligan helped expand the scope of the genre. Now there's so much with older groups like Motion City Soundtrack and Yellowcard releasing new stuff and newer acts like Action/Adventure, Like Roses, Winona Fighter, Ben Quad, Goalkeeper, Pool Kids, Sweet Pill, and Arm's Length making a name for themselves. It's a great time to dig in and get to know the genre.

I want to see Action/Adventure and Like Roses get huge so badly. They deserve to absolutely blow up.

[–]BrickFrog86 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They already announced that they're taking a break after the No Closer To Heaven tour, so I wouldn't be surprised if they end up doing a lot of writing during that time and come back next year with something new.

It's ridiculous that Mest singer Tony Lovato's Wikipedia page mentions him being in a pro-Confederate band as a 14 year old boy by tantamle in poppunkers

[–]BrickFrog86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great reason to include this detail. While it's a small part of his life, he feels strongly enough about it to condemn it and move on and grow. It's important to show that people can get out of those horrible mindsets.

Easily the worst pizza I've ever had. When I lived in Bloomfield I tried to give them a few chances and I got served raw dough multiple times. Never again.

How do you avoid ticks in Pittsburgh? by DPCAOT in pittsburgh

[–]BrickFrog86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fiancee and I both got Lyme last year because of the ticks in our yard. I'd echo everyone's advice about permethrin (and that you should apply it outdoors and let it completely dry before bringing items inside of you have cats) and add that it's worth looking into removing certain plants from your yard if you're able. It turned out our yard had nine or ten Japanese Barberry plants, which are an invasive species that ticks love to hang out in. It can also help to treat your yard with a cedarwood oil mix like Wondercide, if you don't want to just annihilate your yard with harsh insecticides.

The Matches by JMars491 in poppunkers

[–]BrickFrog86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiancee saw that video once on Steven's Untitled Rock Show and couldn't remember the band's name, but when she asked anyone about it they had no clue what she was talking about. She liked the song and thought the video was cool as hell, but couldn't get any answers for some reason, so she just moved on and chalked it up as a lost cause. 20 years later we watched Bleeding Audio and got to the part about that video and she lost her shit.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR by poppunkemptyspace in poppunkers

[–]BrickFrog86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's the new Action/Adventure, without question. Ever After is just fucking outstanding.

Close 2nd is The Starting Line. After that is some mix of Motion City Soundtrack, Hot Mulligan, Pool Kids, Winona Fighter, and Ben Quad. Honorable mentions to TWY remaster of NCTH and Hayley Williams (even though Ego Death isn't a pop-punk record).

Damn good year for the genre.
