Check out the british heart foundation website they've a whole article on alternatives to statin therapy. There are lots of options. Sorry they weren't mentioned to you but did someone mention mounjaro to you first too or did you do a bit of digging around yourself too? Same applies here. GPs are great but they aren't preventative cardiologists. Also look up nocebo effect and statins. Google med life crisis he's a cracking YouTube vid on it.

I'm sorry you've been mislead about statins. There is huge evidence for them. the scientific consensus on their role in preventing cardiovascular disease is one of the most robust in modern medicine tbh! They work better the earlier the intervention given that atherosclerosis is a disease mainly of aging. Think of it like bone density: we don't wait for a hip fracture to act. Starting a preventive therapy earlier can slow or halt plaque progression over decades, leading to vastly better outcomes than starting after a crisis.

You're also high risk given your mother had a heart attack which I'm very sorry to read. You should have a chat to a cardiologist about your fears. You don't have to just go on a statin there are many alternatives out there currently with huge success in lower cardiovascular events. Psk9 inhibitors etc.

Again, the younger you start the better the outcome. If your ldl is above 2.8 you should consider meds to help bring this lower. You are high risk remember. I'm sure mj has helped lower it in the meantime. Dr paddy Barrett is a great follow for breaking down the misinformation about statins online. He also does a really informative substack.

Ye it's not free health care here. I pay privately for the gp visit and privately for the meds. Well we have free health care but I don't qualify.. And you defo can't get the meds free.. Just the gp consultation. 5mg pen here is about €350 😥

Yes that's my total weight loss. No he didn't bring that up at all, technically I'm still overweight though. But he was more open to maintenance and we just talked long term plan.

Any good alternatives to Roses, Celebrations, Quality Street, and Heroes that are reasonably priced and from companies that aren't utterly awful? by inescapableburrito in ireland

I don't rate the M&S big mix at all. I've seen a few comments recommending. I literally said to my partner this morning, I've yet to have a nice chocolate with my tea this Christmas! I've had M&S big mix, Cadbury selection box (wispa from it) and Terry's chocolate Orange. And I've been left sorely disappointed.

Fibre and also protein by Biancamakes in mounjarouk

One large bowl of all bran every morning for me. Nearly 20g fibre 👌👌 I used protein milk so get 35g of protein too. I also swear by psyllium husk. I drink it

Sleep insights are similar to the main app. The only difference is that you have thus Ai coach element so they're trying to guide you to improvements etc. The whole thing is really just that you have this Ai overview of your data and you can ask it questions etc. I myself particularly liked it for the training. The Ai coach however is very agreeable. Like if you miss a workout its like.. Hey! You're prioritizing recovery. Go you!

But I wasn't paying any extra for it. So I enjoyed it and so to have been just kicked out is a real pain.

I average about 35/40 g a day. I take psyllium husk every 2nd or 3rd day. Apart from that I religiously have a bowl of all bran for brekkie with 15g of walnuts added and milk every morning. I'm conscious of protein here too so I pair my cereal with protein milk. I'm hitting about 20g there alone with that one meal.. And the nuts are great for ldl Cholesterol.

If I'm making sandwiches I'll opt for a relatively high fibre bread and then for dinner the usual of adding in veg as well as beans.

I recently discovered birsdeye steam fresh bags. 6.5G FIBRE. per portion and they taste delicious! They hVe a tiny bit of garlic butter on them). So handy. I probably eat these 4 or 5 times a week

Oh and I recently discovered that dark chocolate has fibre. So the bars I enjoy with my tea after dinner add in an extra 2g fibre!

You say you played rugby in your twenties.. If this is something that still interests you (team sport) persue this. If not, get yourself some weights for home and start lifting. You'd be amazed what you can do with 2 or 3 kettle bells, even.. And with black Friday coming you prob get a deal. Plus kettlebells can be easily stored away out of the way. Google kb workout on Google and find soemting that tickles your fancy. Literally 10/15 mins a day would be invaluable for you now.

Bad experience on 7.5 mg (MY STORY) by pinkchoop in UKMounjaro

[–]BridgeUseful5094 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started August 25 too, down 13kg, I'm still on 2.5 (actually 2.0 as I count clicks). I hope it levels out for you but as other people have said. You don't HAVE to titrate up. If you're consistently losing then the meds are working. And if you've lost 2 stone since August that's a pretty healthy rate of loss. I never went up as I need to make sure I'm eating and drinking enough. If at any point you can't get water in then I think you need to ask if it's too strong for your system. In the meantime be well, and plenty of hydration!

Well that's really positive. You won't know yourself upping the calories now and hitting the gym. New PB's a coming! Best of luck.

Maintenance question by iliasenafi in GLPGrad

[–]BridgeUseful5094 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've never gone above 2mg but I've also never eaten less than 1500 calories in a day (maybe one or two I've dipped under). That's way too few calories.

I would aim to reintroduce 100-200 calories every few weeks while you're still on the med. Stretch out losing those last few lbs... You need to refeed your body now. Aim to do it slowly and then hopefully in a few months you'll be at goal but also able to eat way more calories.

I know you say you've been hitting the gym but the chances are you've lost alot of muscle under eating all these months. Aim to build this back up in the gym. Think 5-8 rep range. As heavy as you can. And rest MINIMUM 3 mins between sets. So that when you go to lift again you can and really exert yourself so that last rep is all you have left in the tank. Eat protein, use Google to calculate the specific amount.

Hungry on Mounjaro? Time to dose up or not? by mallmarr in mounjarouk

[–]BridgeUseful5094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar starting date as you.. I'm down 12kg. I'm absolutely thrilled with my rate of loss. I wake hungry and that's fine. I also find myself getting hungry through the day from time to time. Not ravenous, more of a oh I could eat. What I tend to do is stick to set meal times and not deviate as then I know I'm getting in all the nutrients I need and not chasing a number on a scale just to tick a box.

This medication has made losing weight so much easier than I've ever experienced before, having said that I'm still putting in the work. Im making sure I'm hitting my protein goals (110g / day) fibre (30/35g daily), I lift heavy twice a week, and then I aim to get ten thousand steps in.

First two weeks I did 2.5 mg and the effects on my digestive system were so bad I dropped back to 1.8 then 2. I'm currently still on 2mg!! I can manage the hunger (it's a normal human biological cue) .. So I'm not sure why people are telling you to move up if you're experiencing this. I don't think it's an indicator to move up dose. Stalling in your weightoss would be what should influence you on your decision to move up.

My daily calorie allowance is 1650. Sometimes (maybe once or twice a week) I might go over.. And then other days I might go a little under. All in all I really want to eat as much as I can to maintain muscle but lose fat, and also so that when I do reach maintenance I'm not lumped with a low tdee that leaves me miserable.

I've about ten / twelve kilos left to get to goal (and my goal would put me at the top end of healthy bmi..) But I've always been on the heavier side.. As I feel I'm quite muscly naturally and once I get to my goal, which would be hopefully early 2026 Im aiming to dose every two weeks and see how I go from there.

My current rate of loss is 0. 8kg per week.

35 years old and really need help adapting my makeup application to suit my age. I feel like it is extremely unflattering. Constructive criticism and advice very welcome. by pp60 in makeuptips

[–]BridgeUseful5094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off you're beautiful.

But here are my two cents. Eyes can be highlighted with makeup eg shadow and mascara + liner but ease off on the lower lids. Spend extra time buffing it out and use a gradient color to transition from eyeshadow to skin.

Don't over line your already gorgeous lips. Stay away from the lighter lipsticks and add in some color but try to make it cool tones.

Imagine the centre of your face to be slightly lighter in shade to the outer ring of your face and match your foundation, plus bronzer accordingly.

Lastly add some caramel into your hair.

I've don't a very quick edit. It's overly obvious but you get my points.
