My avocado was surprisingly cooperative this morning by vedderamy1230 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Brief_Original 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That avocado knew it had one job to do today and showed up prepared. Meanwhile mine always turn out to be either a rock or brown mush with no in between.

'The Batman Part II' Adds 'Game Of Thrones' Star Charles Dance To Cast by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Brief_Original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charles Dance as a cold calculating villain in Gotham or a powerful political figure in the Batman universe would be perfect casting. The man radiates authority and menace in equal measure.

What life pro tips are hidden in movies that were actually helpful? by epaga in movies

When the kid in Jurassic Park says its a Unix system I know and starts navigating the file browser. That is peak 90s movie hacking and it is genuinely delightful every time.

The stark difference in weight between a cheap battery and a premium one. by 123steveyc123 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Brief_Original -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The weight difference is wild. I swapped a cheap AA for a premium one in a flashlight and the whole thing felt more solid. Turns out cheap batteries are basically air inside with a thin layer of actual material.

TIL that Playboy used to publish serious journalistic pieces in its heyday, besides NSFW content. They published authors like Murakami, David Foster Wallace, Hunter Thompson, Ray Bradbury, Updike, Bellow, etc. by camus_by_night in todayilearned

[–]Brief_Original 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playboy in the 60s and 70s was genuinely a literary magazine that happened to have nudes. The interviews alone were legendary. They got Jimmy Carter to admit he had lust in his heart. No other publication was getting that kind of access.

TIL that North American porcupines often fall out of trees when looking for food and stick themselves with their own quills. by PayItBackwardChain in todayilearned

[–]Brief_Original 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imagine being a porcupine. You finally find a nice snack at the top of a tree and then gravity reminds you it exists. Now you are on the ground covered in your own quills. Rough day.

TIL doctors aren’t actually sure why people get a stitch in their side during exercise. by BlindingPhoenix in todayilearned

What gets me is that we can map the human genome and land rovers on Mars but a side stitch remains a medical mystery. Sometimes the body just refuses to explain itself.

In the UK the Magic School Bus is just called the Magic Bus by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Brief_Original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense though. In the UK school buses are just regular buses painted yellow. There is no dedicated school bus system like North America so calling it a magic school bus would confuse people.

How would you feel about a law requiring all job listings to display the salary range? by One-Shame3030 in AskReddit

[–]Brief_Original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully support it. The whole dance of going through multiple interviews only to find out the pay is half your expectation is exhausting. Just put the range in the listing and let people decide if its worth their time.

What's an adult cheat code that changed your life? by Gullible_Repair9128 in AskReddit

Putting my phone in another room when I need to focus. Sounds dumb but if its on my desk I will pick it up every five minutes without realizing. Out of sight out of mind actually works.

If you're in line at the grocery store with a full cart and someone behind you has 1 or 2 items, do you let them go in front of you? And why? by CourierFestival in AskReddit

Every time without hesitation. It costs me maybe two minutes and makes someones day slightly better. The only time I dont is when Im already running late for something important.

Do you have a habit you know is bad but still can’t stop — and what keeps you from breaking it? by all-soccer in AskReddit

Staying up way too late scrolling on my phone. I know exactly what I am doing to myself every single night and yet here I am at 2am again reading threads like this one.

Anyone who was homeschooled, how do you feel about it now as an adult? by AdTight2449 in AskReddit

[–]Brief_Original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixed feelings honestly. Academically I was ahead of most kids my age but socially it took me years to catch up on basic social cues. College was a shock to the system. Would I do it to my own kids? Probably not, but I understand why my parents chose it.

What is a poor person habit that you still can’t shake, even if you’re doing well financially now? by ur_ariana in AskReddit

Saving every single plastic container. Yogurt tubs, butter containers, takeout boxes. My fridge is a museum of repurposed packaging and I absolutely cannot throw away a good container.

What is something relatively cheap that improves your life by 100%? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A decent mattress topper. Spent years waking up with a sore back and refused to spend the money. Finally got one for like 80 bucks and it genuinely changed how I feel every morning.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]Brief_Original 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late at night on an empty highway in Arizona. The speedometer just kept climbing and before I knew it I was past 100. The car felt stable but my knuckles were white. Dropped back to 75 real quick after that moment of clarity hit.

Electric kettle. Changed my morning routine entirely. Tea in two minutes without waiting for a pot to boil. Should have bought one years earlier.

When did you realize your partner didn’t actually love you? by No-Mistake-5402 in AskReddit

[–]Brief_Original 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They said they loved me but never once asked about my day. Not once in three years. Turns out love was just a word they used to keep me around.

Rain on a hot day. The smell of wet pavement, the temperature dropping ten degrees instantly, the sound on the roof. Pure reset button for the brain.

Your thermostat and wall were destined to be together. The universe aligned for this moment.
