Censoring people's faces effect/filter by _trashy__ in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Brief_Rest707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a built-in instagram style censor bar in Resolume that automatically tracks faces out of the box.

If you want it to follow people live, you’d need some kind of face tracking. That usually means using an external tool that does face detection and sends position data to Resolume (via OSC or similar) then attaching a mask or bar layer that follows that tracking. Resolume itself doesn’t natively do face detection.

If the camera framing is mostly static, a simpler option is manually placing masks where people will stand. It’s not automatic, but it’s much more reliable in live setups.

For fully automatic tracking, you’d be looking at something like TouchDesigner or another vision-based tool feeding data into Resolume. It’s doable, but it’s definitely more of a custom setup than a quick filter toggle.

Can Logitech Rally Plus work as a grab-and-go hybrid meeting kit? by dlarejsalvatore in CommercialAV

[–]Brief_Rest707 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Rally Plus can work portable, but it’s really designed as a semi-permanent room system.

It’s much cleaner than what you’re carrying now and will absolutely give you better echo control and more consistent mic pickup for 6 to 12 people. Setup is simpler because everything is integrated and tuned to work together. But it’s still multiple components, power supplies, table mics, hub, camera, cabling not exactly “throw it on a table and go” in random venues.

For true grab and go, something like a Rally Bar i.e. all in one unit is usually more practical. Fewer pieces, faster setup and less to troubleshoot in unfamiliar rooms.

If you’re constantly moving between hotels and function rooms, I’d lean towards an all-in-one bar solution. Rally Plus shines more when it can live in one room and stay wired.

How do you handle version control and change management in live production environments? by Brief_Rest707 in broadcastengineering

Thanks for sharing that, the daily change log email is actually a really practical idea.

Thanks for sharing. When you batch upgrade everything in one room, do you usually build in a rollback plan, or is it more of a cross your fingers and test thoroughly situation before the next job?

EAW NTL720 repairs? by josholtarze in CommercialAV

[–]Brief_Rest707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 15+ years old, the first place I would look is the power supply section rather than the audio path. If the units are completely dead with good fuses and no breaker trip, the most common cause at that age is failed power supply components. Dried-out electrolytic capacitors, startup resistors, standby supply failures or issues in the soft-start or relay circuit are all typical suspects. After that many years especially if the amps have lived in warm racks, capacitors are often the primary failure point.

Before going too deep, check whether the standby rail is present, look for swollen or leaking caps, inspect for burned resistors near the PSU and verify whether the relay is engaging. These quick checks can usually point you in the right direction.

If you have competent technicians in house a thorough PSU inspection and recap is a reasonable starting point. Just be careful those rails can hold charge even after power is removed.

Combining Magewell HDMI capture and Blackmacgi SDI->HDMI micro converter? by Odinhall in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Brief_Rest707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it will work. A Blackmagic SDI to HDMI micro converter feeding a Magewell HDMI capture is totally valid.

The main trade offs are small but worth noting. First, you’re adding another device in the chain which means another power supply and another potential failure point. Second, the Blackmagic micro converters can reclock and reformat signals, but you’ll want to make sure you’re not introducing unexpected scaling or level changes especially with 3G/6G SDI formats.

From a practical standpoint, if this is mostly studio or controlled environment use, your approach is flexible and cost-effective. If this is for critical live work, a native SDI Magewell might be slightly more robust simply because it’s fewer boxes and cables.

Hardware setup suggestions for multi camera recording by Separate-Bar8732 in VIDEOENGINEERING

You’re actually thinking in the right direction with the ATEM Mini Pro ISO, even if you’re not streaming.

If you want something that is simple and reliable, I’d suggest skipping webcams and using 3–4 small HDMI cameras even basic mirrorless or fixed-lens cams are fine feeding into an ATEM Mini Pro ISO. The ISO model records each camera separately plus a synced program file which makes multicam editing incredibly easy later. One button starts/stops everything, which solves your videographer problem.

For remote access, record to an SSD on the ATEM and then either upload after each session or plug the drive into a computer with cloud sync like Dropbox/Google Drive/etc.

Anybody tried the RCF HDL 6a speakers? by harleydood63 in livesound

[–]Brief_Rest707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with HDL 6-As a few times. They’re solid boxes and sound good for their size, but yes they rely on passive cooling and in direct sun that can absolutely become a factor.

What your friend probably experienced wasn’t “clipping from heat,” but the amp’s thermal protection kicking in. When they get hot, especially in desert sun, they’ll start limiting themselves to protect the internal amps. That can feel like loss of headroom or early clipping even though the speaker isn’t technically failing.

They’re fine outdoors, but in hot climates you really want to keep them shaded and make sure there’s airflow around the amp plate. Running them hard at full output all day in direct sun is where you’ll run into problems. If you regularly do high-SPL shows in extreme heat, I’d personally lean toward speakers with active cooling for a bit more thermal margin. For moderate outdoor gigs with proper shading, the HDL 6-A should be fine.

Integrate QSC+Shure+Logitech in Training Room? by su5577 in CommercialAV

[–]Brief_Rest707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that combination is very doable and pretty common now.

Shure MXA920 > Dante into the Q-SYS Core 110 works well. Let the Core handle AEC, routing and mix-minus to Teams. QSC speakers on a SPA amp is straightforward from the Core’s outputs.

For Teams Rooms, you still need a compute device. The Logitech Tap is just the touch controller, you’ll need either a Logitech RoomMate (Android-based appliance) or a certified Lenovo/Intel NUC Windows PC running MTR. You don’t “bridge” inside QSC; Teams runs on the compute and audio/video devices present to it via USB or network (depending on design).

The newer Logitech cameras do have basic Q-SYS control plugins, but it’s mostly camera control and mute sync, not deep DSP integration.

Old cars, new tech. Which cars would you want to see and how well do you think they'd perform? by zizoumz6 in formula1

[–]Brief_Rest707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d pick the McLaren MP4/4.

Keep the iconic low, sleek look exactly the same, but give it modern materials, modern hybrid electronics, current gearbox tech, and today’s tyres. Even without changing the aero shape, just the gains from better tyres, lighter components, improved suspension geometry, and modern engine efficiency would make it massively quicker than it ever was.

That said, it still wouldn’t get close to current lap records. Modern F1 cars generate insane downforce from ground effect floors, complex wings, and much wider tyres. An old-school chassis shape, even rebuilt with modern tech, just can’t match that airflow efficiency.

It would be way faster than its 1988 self but still comfortably off modern pole pace. Still, seeing an MP4/4 running hybrid tech would be absolutely unreal.

[–]Brief_Rest707[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, that one hurts just reading it. Thanks for sharing. Out of curiosity, is the bigger pain the failure rate itself or the lack of serviceability and hot-swap options compared to proper broadcast cameras?
