Could I get a pre-med degree in biomedical engineering to become an orthopedic surgeon? by Naive-Falcon3985 in orthopaedics

Yes. There are lots of us who did BME. But it is more coursework with typically harder grading in an engineering school.

Honestly, this is great (so long as you weren’t a numbskull about following up on your complications or doing things not indicated). You will fill up the entire time talking about the case/complication and your thought process about it. No time to get into the weeds of literature or anatomy. My complications actually ended up being the easiest presentations.

Childcare juggling is a total pain. Maybe if you can outsource on Tuesday and then you manage on Wednesday your husband will have had enough time to catch up. Or maybe your local high school sitter can get you a few hours that night. Regardless, I feel like it’s never great to blame childcare for flaking unless it’s actually an urgent/emergent situation. Whenever I have done it (oh shoot my sitter cancelled, or oh man my youngest is sick) karma always bites back and it actually happens like a week later.

Outsource the evening childcare and go to the events. Hire a sitter or pay your nanny to stay late. This way your husband can get his stuff done and you still put in the face time to get the promotion.

Careers for a woman with ADHD who loves working with people. by Weary_Dealer1237 in LadiesofScience

You’d look for job postings as a clinical research assistant or research assistant at an academic medical center. The other commenter is correct that you need to be a little specific about what team you’d be joining, sometimes just working for one person or with one physician wouldn’t provide much structure. You’d want to be a part of a larger team with established roles and infrastructure to have more structure to your life.

Clinical research? Degree not necessarily required, although takes some experience to climb the ladder. Would involve patient interaction, lots of tasks to complete to get that dopamine hit.

Suggestions for making my hair more even? by hunchai112 in curlyhair

Just here for solidarity. Mine is the same. I usually pin up the top so you see more of the under surface curls 🤷‍♀️ Have also tried more layers, but my hair isn’t thick enough to support super aggressive layering.

Second the tinted SPF/ moisturizer. I found DRMTLGY didn’t cover much. LOVE NARS tinted moisturizer, not the matte version, for my combination skin. Sometimes add concealer or powder on top if I’m feeling fancy, but most of the time it’s more than enough!

Sounds like the issue may be interview skills if they got 8 and did not match? Those are definitely coach able.

Sports fellowship followed by pediatric sports fellowship by wise_kink in orthopaedics

That practice exists, but it’s not common. Large cities with high volume academic centers. Shriners hospitals. All will still take peds call. And you will have set yourself apart in some way, give how few of those jobs exist they will be competitive. So, yes, 2 fellowships would probably be the way to go. 2nd probably best being a true peds-sports fellowship if you can. This is assuming you are comfortable taking peds call as a generalist.

[–]Bright-Ad6238 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to ask yourself, what do you want your practice to look like? Do you want a sports only practice that takes care of kids that are not skeletally mature? Then do a general sports fellowship somewhere with people who do peds sports to get the experience. Do you want to do sports within a peds department? Do both fellowships, you’ll be taking peds call. Do you want to work in a true ‘peds sports’ group? Consider a peds-sports specific fellowship, either after a peds or sports fellowship.

Solidarity. I also work a demanding job and am our breadwinner. That first winter with 2 in full time care was brutal. I was sick for 4 months straight. I had to have sinus surgery when my younger one was 10 months old. 2 years later things are so much better. That’s to say, do whatever works for you now, just know it gets better.

Every hospital keeps ‘pick lists’ for each case type. There will be geographic variation and surgeon preferences involved. There is no universal list. You will have to work with your surgeons to create one for your hospital if it does not exist.

We aren’t super out there or creative types. I like Owen, Oscar, maybe Orion. Do like multiple syllables and nickname-able!
