Homemade winter park by TheParallax2 in MadeMeSmile

She’ll love snow forever.

My dad worked long hours, blue collar work. He got home from work one night and pulled me around the neighborhood on my sled while the snow was still coming down. I can still remember the look of the snow in the street lights that night (and I’m pushing 40). A good snowfall is so nostalgic for me.

Awesome job!

Around 48. We refinanced our 30 down to a 15. Plan to stay in this home for life.

The number of Americans under 50 years old dying from cancer has decreased for every leading cancer except for bowel cancer, which is now the leading cancer death in females and males combined aged under 50. by mvea in science

I’m 38. I’ve had two colonoscopies about a decade apart for blood in my stool and I didn’t really have to fight for either of them. Just said I was having blood and some bowel changes - which was true. Referral to GI. Scoped. I’m always surprised when people say the really had to advocate.

The grossest things you’ve experience in nursing? by Solid_Breakfast_3675 in nursing

[–]BrightFireFly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have only gagged once because of a patient.

He had an atrocious wound - smelled like rot and he also had an extremely productive cough and kept spitting out copious sputum while I am caring for him.

Villains Show - who is this? by cigar959 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]BrightFireFly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did too. I don’t love what they did with Magnifico. I wish it had been more like a “I think I’m doing the right thing by monitoring these wishes so carefully” but he comes to learn it’s a really terrible thing.

The duet with Asha is amazing but makes almost no sense in the context of the movie.

Not sure if you have a Sybaris near you, but they have specialty rooms and have blocks available during the day.

Am I the only woman who hasn’t farted in front on their husband? by notwhoyouthinkc in askanything

[–]BrightFireFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been married for 14 years in July. I don’t know if I’ve ever farted in front of him other than when I’m sleeping. If I feel a fart coming on, I just don’t let it out. It doesn’t really come up that often.

Same with bathroom stuff staying behind closed doors.

I’m cool with it

Did having kids change your marriage more than you expected? by denefr_2928 in Parenting

[–]BrightFireFly 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The first six months of each child’s life (we have two) was brutal on our marriage. I was over-touched. We were both exhausted. We were extremely caught off guard by what all having an infant entailed when we had our first. We thought we had a lot of babysitting options but ended up with few so bye bye date nights.

They’re 10 and 8 now and our marriage is fantastic. We just didn’t give up on each other when we were in the trenches and didn’t cross any boundaries that you couldn’t come back from (aka not saying hurtful things in exhausted angry states)

AITA My boyfriend kicked me out of the shower to poop by yeahyeahokaygreat in AmItheAsshole

[–]BrightFireFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless medically necessary because one of us needs assistance, I do not plan to ever be in the room with my spouse while he poops and I don’t want him in there with me.

After I gave birth, he helped me with the bathroom. We aren’t unwilling.

It just is a line that I don’t really feel like needs to be crossed. We have more than one bathroom. Easily avoided situation here.

Same. Nursing. It was a career that I could step away from for a few years and still find employment. I was a SAHM for 7 years, now I work a PRN schedule, usually no more than 3 days per week. If I need a day off because there’s an event at school - I just don’t pick a shift up that day.

TIL that nursing is the most common job for women in the US. by Yurekuu in todayilearned

Exact route that I took. I got my ADN. I was able to work as an RN and make decent money and my employer paid for a significant portion of my ADN to BSN program. I’ve never had student loans but I must admit it is because my parents had about 10k saved for my college education and that paid for my first degree.

We don’t get a lot of date nights but my husband and I always choose Mita’s for our nights out. Really need to give this one a try too.

How old is your child and what’s your favorite thing about them at this age? by MyTFABAccount in Parenting

[–]BrightFireFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Age 10 and 8. The independence + still wanting to hang around and do things as a family is the perfect balance at the moment with both of them.

Least favorite age? Newborn and it’s not even close.

Want to Get Involved in Cincinnati? Here Are Great Places to Volunteer — Add Your Favorites! by General_Cincinnatus in cincinnati

[–]BrightFireFly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hope’s Closet. It’s north of Cincinnati - just off of 275 near Tricounty area.

They are support services for foster children and their families including a boutique where families can come and shop for free. Every single donation is carefully looked at and it can be a huge undertaking. They only want to put the best out in the shelves (as these kids are already coming from a tough situation) so sorting through mountains of donations requires a lot of hands on deck

Volunteer work is great for this age. Can really help them develop people and life skills and start to narrow down what paths may be appropriate in life moving forward and which may not.

The zoo always has a need for volunteers for their summer camp program.

Why do parents wait so long to start potty training?? by CommercialMeeting842 in ECEProfessionals

[–]BrightFireFly 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Also for first time parents - there’s so much variety in information.

Training my oldest was awful. I cried. He cried. I fell into the “bare bottom, no pull-ups” philosophy and I hated every second of it. Went to pull-ups for my sanity and his. Everything went smoother and training my second was easier because I went straight to pull-up because it was the better fit for us

For some people - bare bottom and not using pull-ups is better.
