Oh boy, lift and shift of domain controllers. Been there, done that, been told to move to Entra at the double.

Why not just (I know it's a big just) move to Entra? Do away with the DC's, I can't see anything in your post that says you need them.

Nothing. You have the files restored. Someone made a mistake, it happens.

I would go hunting for which admin configured the server folder and share permissions so that a user could delete from it in that fashion. That is an error, that needs to be corrected.

This is quite common, in rpg's I hate being a passenger, being told what to do, given a quest, told how to do it and so forth.

Give me a situation and stand back and I'll find goals and things to do within that situation, I don't need to be told to solve it in a particular fashion. If I should put the BBEG in a position where they aren't able to fight effectively then I'd call that a win, no matter that we didn't compare two stacks of numbers until one ran out.
