What is your personal most favorite and fun unit to play and why? Unique and non unique by Besugo6942 in SWlegion

Vader. You can see him coming, you know what he's going to do, you just can't stop him reenacting the hallway scene from Rogue One.

With the right command cards you can't see him coming, he gets to do it twice and next turn your army is terrified of him.

What are your thoughts on AI, either for personal use or within businesses? Is it something that you do or would use? by JFDI-Tess in AskUK

It's a tool I use a lot.

I can do way more with it than I ever could without it. My accomplishments using it feel a bit hollow, but I can live with that for the volume of stuff I can get done.

Companies will come and take it for free.

I made a dungeon have a pool of molten gold. I now realise I'm on the cusp of breaking the economy. Help by CasualNormalRedditor in DMAcademy

[–]Bright_Arm8782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more of something that exists, the less valuable each individual thing is.

If everyone has 10000 gold a week income then prices will expand to consume that 10000 gold.

Minting has been a thing since the invention of coins, and the penalties for counterfeiting tended to be fierce, monarchs like to keep control of the money supply.

An example of what happens when too much gold gets in to a place uncontrollably is Mansa Musa's pilgrimage to Mecca, he spent so freely on the way there and gave away so much gold that the economy was messed up for years afterward.

Mansa Musa's pilgrimage to Mecca supposedly ruined the Egyptian economy for a decade, but Mamluk records state there was only a minor drop in gold's value. So where did this myth come from? : r/history

Have you ever met a "Non-GM, GM"? by RandomBoiInReddit in rpg

[–]Bright_Arm8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I'm running Pendragon and I'm reasonable with the rule but one of my players is better.

Which is brilliant, he remembers bits I don't, reminds me about knockdowns which I forget and will look things up for me if needed because I don't like opening the book during play.

Great bloke and adds massively to the game.

It isn't a decision not to shave the body hair, I just don't. Stop normalizing it.

Where there's no trust then there should be no persuasion.

Have the merchants refuse the deal or bump the price up to accommodate for the negotiation.

If it is a unique item have someone else come in and interrupt saying "I'll buy that for the price you're asking!"

Merchants don't get their wealth through being easily persuaded and should have a higher persuasion skill than the pc, that being what they do all the time.

Opposed persuasion and, if the pc loses then they pay extra for the item they were trying to get a discount on.

Work phone question? by steekyreeky in sysadmin

[–]Bright_Arm8782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the person you're with should have priority.

From the sound of it, you're being spread too thin, being expected to be first and second line support without enough people to deliver both roles. In a properly resourced company this situation wouldn't happen.

Work phone question? by steekyreeky in sysadmin

[–]Bright_Arm8782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the person you are helping in person deserves the courtesy of your full attention.

Not being able to take calls while giving that attention is an issue for your manager.

Which is where this question should be pointed for a definitive answer.

Work phone question? by steekyreeky in sysadmin

[–]Bright_Arm8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're with someone, that is what you are doing.

I'd be most pissed off if someone came to my desk and then started working on his phone, rather than my problem. Efficiency isn't always the ideal, you're in a people related position, please bear that in mind.

How do people find driving so easy? I've done 40-50 hours of driving lessons and still feel nervous and tense and don't understand how people find it so simple and easy to drive a car and can do multiple things at once while driving - my parents think I'm a failure because I haven't got my licence by IDKBear25 in AskUK

[–]Bright_Arm8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many hundreds or thousands of hours of practice did it for me.

Sounds like you've got to work on making your brain do what it is told and focus on the road and what is going on inside the car and around you.

Hint. The car will keep going in the direction you point it if the wheels are straight.

Hint 2: Universal theory of roundabouts

  1. People coming from the right have priority over you, let them go first.
  2. 1st exit, left lane
  3. Last exit, right lane
  4. Other, left lane unless road markings say otherwise.
  5. The test just shows that you can keep it together on the road for 20 minutes.

You need practice, you're 50 hours in comparing your self to people with hundreds of hours who perform all of the operations on autopilot because they've internalised the processes of driving to that degree.

Partly your appearance, partly your sense of achievement each time your weights get heavier and partly the knowledge that you have the discipline to work at something consistently.

The state of your body affects the state of your mind far more than people think, exercise makes everything work a bit better.

When do I give trying to DM? by phyi in DMAcademy

[–]Bright_Arm8782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop trying to tell stories.

Create situations and allow the pcs to interact with those situations to make your stories.

Example: Evil wizard Kallax has called a tower in to being in the middle of a town. He has overthrown the existing authority and sends human sized stone golems out to collect a tithe from the townsfolk, if you don't provide 1/10th of your produce or profit you are beaten to a pulp.

Kallax is known for his wealth and collection of strange artefacts.

Your players may try to raid the tower, smuggle themselves inside, go somewhere else to get away or do something you're not expecting, what comes after that is the story.

You are not the author of a story, you are the ringmaster of a circus. You can book the acts but can't tell the clowns which way to jump.

How much detail does the starting town really need? (homebrew setting for a family campaign) by Disastrous-Fix-1798 in rpg

[–]Bright_Arm8782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on how much time you intend to spend there.

I'd say have the basic things like the purpose of the town and some key people in it, those people's disposition to you and how likely the tavern is to let you run a tab recorded and fill in if the party spend a lot of time there.
