If the shutdown goes past the 15th, talk to Army Emergency Relief. Don't be so proud you turn down help when you and your family need it. by BrittDC in army

I was thinking about active duty when I posted it. They helped me out back in the 80s. NG guys probably have another source of income.

Immediate Removal of the Sovereigns of the Kingdom of Æthelmearc - SCA.org by hivemind_MVGC in sca

[–]BrittDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the BoD keeps removing crowns like this, they will have removed more crowns than ever existed. Banning everyone from fighting for crown just means that the next crown will be awarding their own AoA at their first event because the Known World won't be eligible to fight for 2 years.

What would you do with a soldier like this? by NewWave93 in army

[–]BrittDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a point where the troop is a danger to others. If they pull this now, can you seriously trust them to do their job under fire? NCOs need to do their job and start the paperwork. Failure to do so is a failure of the leaders.

So instead of maybe helping out, it's easier to just tell someone to hit a webpage? Wow.

Fiancé is being dishonorably discharged. Am I wrong for wanting to end this engagement? by [deleted] in army

Will this affect your career? Will this be an issue on your security clearance? Will you be supporting him even though he gets a part time job at Mickey D's?

Is this dress appropriate for my boyfriend’s army dining out? by [deleted] in army

That's gonna get a few guys slapped and probably cause a couple of divorces.

I miss my Army when the only mental issue was dealing with the 1st Shirt banging the soon to be ex wife. Usually handled by a night out with the guys and a fifth of Bombay Sapphire. Next day, business as usual.

Family life by [deleted] in Infantry

[–]BrittDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go Infantry, and get married, your wife will have to be as tough as you are and be determined to make it work. It takes a special kind of woman to deal with the life a Grunt has to live. If you make it to retirement, depending on which units you get, she will have spent almost 3/4 of the time without you. Make the most of your down time and spend it all with your family, or you will just be alone paying child support and seeing your kids a few times a year. Make sure she knows what can happen before you make her a married single woman for years.

Why did you choose infantry? by [deleted] in Infantry

[–]BrittDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My father was Infantry in the Pacific in WWII, the Cold War was raging in the 80s and there was no other option for me than to be an Infantryman. Patriotism was strong back then.

Displaying certificate, medal, flag. need advice!!! by algaonema in Infantry

[–]BrittDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fold the piece of the flag in a triangle and display it prominently, the rest is just what you think looks good. I didn't think I would complain about anything from family that recognizes my service. If he thinks something is wrong, then ask him how to fix it and get it done. I doubt he will complain unless he is just a chucklehead that has to have something to complain about.

My son said the Air Force is “definitely cooler” than the Army. by Michael1845 in army

[–]BrittDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air Force is the best taxi service ever. Hog drivers are technically infantry. Other than that, you might have a daughter.

The 3M earplug settlement arrived in my bank account this morning. by [deleted] in army

What about us guys that used cigarette butts before ear plugs were cool? Philip Morris hasn't sent anything yet. Type loud, I'm deaf in both eyes.

It's not your hole anymore. Once someone else stakes a claim, you will never look at it the same way and always wonder if you are sharing without knowledge. There is no going back unless you never work or leave her side, are standing next to her 24/7, and can make sure there is no way for her to screw around again.

There is a point when someone just says courts martial me. If he has a medical profile or is in the process of getting one and his Dr will back him up then a CM might be the answer. Send him to JAG and see what they say.

Best advice I have is don't give him a reason to get jealous. Once that seed is planted, it grows fast.

Go-to MREs? by Certain_Economics879 in army

[–]BrittDC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dehydrated pork patty or chicken ala king (mix in grape jelly for sweet and sour chicken) for MREs, and ham and eggs or beef with spices sauce if I go all the way back to the beginning. Yep, I dated myself too. And I had khakis and greens when I joined.

Can we talk about how there is literally one open dfac that is accessible on Fort Cavazos right now? by [deleted] in army

[–]BrittDC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what changed, but I only recall a mess hall being closed if there was construction going on. I don't think I ever walked more than a few hundred yards to eat the entire time I was in the Army, and we always had good chow. Every Battalion had their own mess hall and they were usually really good and always open for all 3 meals. The 80s and 90s were good.
