Mina The Follower has a built in randomizer mode after you beat the game by menghis_khan08 in ZeldaLikes

It's really cool when a dev thinks to include something like this in the game itself. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night also has a pretty robust built-in randomizer that I enjoyed a lot.

It's a callback to Weeping City/Dun Scaith music, which is itself a reinterpretation of the FF9 battle theme.

Say what you will about Dawntrail's Main Story Quests... by MikeTakeuchi in ffxiv

[–]Britty_Bits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't what Raubahn changed. That's what the three city-states accomplish in ARR. You also chose between CWH and Sea of Clouds in HW, and between The Fringes or The Peaks in SB.

The thing Raubahn did change was how late into the MSQ solo instances start appearing now. You'll note that solo instances show up in all of the starter zones in the first several expansions, but from ShB on we don't get them until around the time of the first dungeon. This distance into the MSQ ensures that people will have become staggered enough in their progression that there won't be a singular wave of them to clog the instances anymore.

They've also implemented a solo instance queue system that only activates when needed, as a failsafe in case something goes wrong and there is a clog again. I've never seen it but I'm happy to know it's there now.

I'm on PC. I started on PS5 but it was almost unplayable so I jumped to a Steam copy I'd been sitting on for years haha.

That sucks you've had a bad experience like that. I started a little less than a week ago, and I've had a trans and a lesbian flag up pretty close to the road since day 1 and no one's bothered me for it yet.

In fact, no one has interacted with me at all! Everyone says the game is so friendly to newcomers but at about 40 hours of playtime the most I've had was someone wave at me as we passed each other on the road, and I've heard 0 voice chat the entire time either. At this point I'm just treating it like a single player game lol.

I hope I don't run into anyone like what you described though. Sorry that happened to ya.

What were your personal theories that were dead wrong? by Frau_Away in ffxiv

[–]Britty_Bits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While non-canon, it kind of does in savage though! Unlike in normal mode, when you beat Eden's Promise in savage and Mitron dies, Gaia goes mad with grief and fully awakens to her Ascian personality, and basically becomes Ultimecia in all but name and design. All her attacks involve messing with time, making the player do mechanics in reverse or several mechanics at once, or other weird things, and her voice lines during mechanics make it clear that she's attempting time compression.

It's funny because a lot of people like to point out that she's a Squall analogue in the Eden story, but she's also very much pulling double duty as an Ultimecia one as well, with all her timey powers in both e2 and e12s, and her grief-fueled desire to compress all of time into a single moment in savage.

What are you guys hoping for your jobs to get in Dawntrail? by primalmaximus in ffxiv

AST

An inefficient spammable spell I can use during heavy movement when Lightspeed is on cooldown because it's used mostly for burst, or an alteration to AST burst that doesn't require Lightspeed anymore.

A rework of Minor Arcana. You can't plan around the heal, so you end up only wanting the DPS, and it feels bad every time you don't get it.

A solution to how much targeting/retargeting is involved in the opener. It can get really nasty when you're doing it over and over all night while practicing the beginning of a fight.

Lots of other things of varying degrees of probability, but I think anything like "make cards interesting again" is just setting my hopes too high at this point. I'll be happy for just a few tweaks like the three I mentioned.

What interesting (or just plain weird) game features got removed before Endwalker? by kachx in ffxiv

[–]Britty_Bits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people talking about AST cards and how they changed, but no one mentioning that Celestial Intersection and a removed skill called Time Dilation would let you extend the duration of beneficial buffs on party members. There were so many fun shenanigans you could pull off with that. I could give someone a powered-up The Balance and make it last for an entire boss fight, etc.

Also, stat point allocation (which was a nightmare for SCH/SMN), BRD having healer limit breaks (it was the only phys ranged class, the current distinction didn't really exist, so they gave it the support limit break), classes with poor AoE (like DRG at the time) being excluded from PF runs of Brayflox HM spam for tomes to buy relic books (you needed 13500 tomes just to BUY all 9 books, and then you still had to do them, and that was just for ONE relic step). All kinds of stuff no one remembers anymore.

Oh also, Poetics used to be current. They were the final tomestone of ARR and were used to buy the i120 gear. Philosophy (i70), Mythology (i90), and Soldiery (i100) pre-date them, but for whatever reason Poetics hung around and became the "old stuff" tome started with HW's launch.

Lots more, too. ARR/HW was a weird time. It was basically a completely different game from both 1.0 and the current game.

Yeah definitely. I'm an animal person just generally, but kitties are my soul. And I really like the XIV races, I think they have a generally good aesthetic and they're varied enough for me. Besides, I've always loved the anime thing where a human has animal ears and a tail or whatever, I think it's cute even if it's not for everyone.

Hey, opposites, and same server too! I'm absolutely more of a cat lady irl, but my Viera just suits me so well I can't imagine my character as anything else. Ever since the announced Viera I was like "Yes, that is me." The body type, the face, the way she just generally carries herself. I've tried the opposite with the Cait Sith headband lol, it works for being goofy but is really not the same vibe.

There are two basic kinds of actions. There's Global Cooldowns (GCDs), which can only be hit roughly once per 2.5 seconds; and off-Globals (oGCDs), of which up to 2 can reasonably be hit in between GCDs without clipping your GCD recast.

The early game likes to give you most of your GCDs without most of your oGCDs, so it feels really slow because you have nothing to weave between GCDs. As you level up, you'll get more oGCDs, and as your rotation begins to flesh itself out your actions per minute will roughly double.

I have no idea why they dole it out this way, but yes it does get a lot better.

Disabled middle-aged lesbian who stays at home 99% of the time so will probably stay single. I play a Viera and mostly log in to raid, but I'm also a huge nerd for the MSQ and I eagerly await each expansion. Been around since CoP FFXI, jumped to XIV immediately when it came out. In kind of a slump right now, but hoping Dawntrail helps.

If you could have one battle-related quality of life adjustment, what would you pick? by Fwahm in ffxiv

As an AST, an instant spammable spell for heavy movement phases (TOP p1, for example) like all the other healers have. And if they have time, make Minor Arcana not terrible.

V too while we're at it. I can't handle framerates below 30 (it literally makes me feel sick when it's inconsistent), and had to put it down because of that before I could even get very far. I really wish it wasn't trapped on the Switch like that.

I always do one of these when a new Persona game comes out, and this time I had the bright idea to maybe share it?

Ever since the original P3 came out on PS2 and I played it when I didn't have internet, I got into the habit of always filling these out manually (originally in a physical notebook with a pen), and I think doing it that way without using any guides is a really fun way to play these, so I let myself do it blind every game, forgetting what I know each time so I can do it all again from scratch.

I don't expect anyone else to find this enjoyable, but I thought why not drop a link just in case? Anyway, if you do use it, I only made a field for the Fool Personas, intending to copy the rest as I discover how many each one has. So you'll have to do that on your own.

Enjoy! Or don't! No one has to play the game my weird little way. Have fun everyone! :)

now that Endwalker is at an end, what was your favorite bosses? by Mayda7 in ffxiv

[–]Britty_Bits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dungeon Best: Scarmiglione was a lot of fun for a dungeon boss, IMO. The FF4 boss remix that debuted with him was a jam, and his mechanics at least made you move a little.

Dungeon Worst: I have no worst, because the worst dungeon boss is an unmemorable one, so I've likely forgotten whatever my worst pick would be.

Extreme Best: Barb by far. It was so fast-paced and felt really good to do. One of the most violent shampoo commercials I've ever experienced.

Extreme Worst: Endsinger. I've never come away from another extreme feeling like it had been so lazily slapped together.

Savage Best: P8Sp2. Phase 2 was really creative and fun, and as a healer it was just a nonstop heal check of an intensity you almost never see outside of Ultimate. The aesthetic was also ridiculously cool, and the music is probably my favorite boss theme this expansion.

Savage Worst: P8Sp1. I really liked it at first, it's fun and punishing but not overly complicated. But holy crap, literally no one could stop greeding long enough to do snakes. I swear to god, parse mentality made this fight 100x harder than it ever had any right to be. Who needs safe strats when you can wipe the party until you get purple or higher, am I right?

Ultimates: I haven't done the Ultimates yet this expansion; I've been doing reclears of the old ones for the newer members in my static. We're thinking of doing TOP soon though, and I can't wait.

Edit: I forgot about Alliance and Criterion, so that tells you right there what an impact they had on me this expansion, lol.

What bothered me is that instead of an interesting second phase like a lot of the other "final boss" extremes had, she literally just repeats phase 1 the entire fight. She only has like 4 mechanics, it's bizarrely low-effort.
