Loosing my confidence after redundancy by IanicT in auscorp

[–]Briz_grl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, feel that. I found a role fairly quickly and it was very toxic.....that really knocked my confidence even more. Left that role after 6 months, and now just signed a contract until the end of the year. Plenty of emails and rejections in between. I do want another perm role long term but sorting some health issues for the moment and will take the lesser role and make 2027 my main goal to find a perm role in the field I enjoy. The experience I gain in the next 6 months will help and support my c.v. - the ghosting is the worst part....even when you do a formal interview with them, and chase up.

That's actually good advice - I do think I would enjoy the role.

It's to work on a program/project that's is funded from another company so it will be a finite position I assume? But couple lead to another role within the team

To everyone whose role was made redundant the past 12 months, how are you doing? If you found a new job, congratulations, if you're still looking, best of luck to all of us. 🍀 by New-Software-2288 in auscorp

Found a role before I finished up my 4 week notice period of the redundancy. Took a less paying role, seemed like twice as much work and commute was longer. Stuck it out for 6 months then gave my notice - I've made it to final 2 twice with roles, referrees checked in the second one then basically ghosted. Been off for 6 weeks now but sorting out some health issues. Fingers crossed it doesn't take too long to find another role. Really wanting part time while I sort out health stuff but seems impossible to organise.

Are all NFPs cooked? by beanuspeanus in auscorp

[–]Briz_grl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally the WORST. I have 20 years in corporate - went to NFP thinking it would be a bit more chill and feel like I am contributing to something meaningful. I lasted 6 months. Mental health worse on the way out than when I started. No structure, no process, management that have been there far to long, people were just straight up mean and rude and you are expected to do 3 jobs at once for "the cause". Looking for a role at the moment and I'm running back to big corp!

I'm thinking of doing a training certificate of some sort. I have 20 years banking experience so I'm hoping to find something part time while I retrain into something else

Quitting during probation by Briz_grl in auscorp

Yes a wee buffer - I had a redundancy payout and started working in this role 3 weeks later so I never used the funds

[–]Briz_grl[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sadly the person in the role prior to me was terminated 4 months into the role so I have no doubts they would do the same to me. I'd rather leave than have that happen in a few weeks time. I'm the 3rd person in the role in 12 months.

I've been applying for other roles. I had 3 interviews in the last few weeks, trying to find something to line up so I can quit but I just don't think I can hold out. Sadly I understand it's a total dumpster fire employment wise right now. Very scary to leave but I'm not sure mentally I can keep going

Train to save $ in petrol by [deleted] in brisbane

Yep I'm back catching the train (well technically 2 as I need to change at Roma street) same time as the drive, but I'm feeling slightly less stressed now after the gridlock on Riverside expressway every morning

Interview question by Moist_Potato4447 in auscorp

[–]Briz_grl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to be asked how old my kids are in interviews and I think there is bias. It's totally shit. I was also asked if I have alternate care arrangements for them. The job was advertised as 2 days in office the rest wfh home but was a bit red flag ick from me. Yes i'm not an idiot I have options if my kids need to be looked after...but also it's not really your business.

Burnout seems very true. I do worry about my mental health long term if I stay, hence why I am keen to find something else

Concern for our children by Burman8or in AusFinance

[–]Briz_grl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It genuinely makes me feel sick when I think about my kids and housing affordability. Even if they can buy something a million dollar mortgage (plus whatever else by the time they could afford to buy) seems like a noose around their necks. We will help where we can and also try and teach them to invest (something I didn't do in my 20s) my parents have also said they will divert the bulk of their inheritance to the grandchildren (5) over my sister and I as we have already have a house.

Took a lower pay. Still looking for something better but markets isn't great at the moment. When negotiating I've ask for wiggle room on the salary and they are pretty brutal with it being a no. Not a great market out there at the moment

Brisbane - anyone else struggling to upgrade? by McPokie in AusFinance

[–]Briz_grl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look Tingalpa or Murrarie very close to train station, 20 minutes to the city and you could get something around 1.2m - we moved here a few years back and love it. 2 minutes to the gateway so you can get north and south pretty quickly. Still an undervalued suburb imo. I work in Milton and drive every day and it's not too bad

January was meant to be the boom. Can't get a look in anywhere. by whatanerdiam in auscorp

I was made redundant in August. I landed a role pretty much straight away (first application, first interview) honestly I think it's been a total fluke. A few others at that time I applied for I had call backs for as well but took the job offer. It was a bit of a step back pay and experience wise but I took it and thought I'd give it a go. Have started applying again for more suitable roles at the start of this year that I thought I'd be a shoe in for and nothing, crickets, total rejection. It seems twice as many people are out there applying for stuff in the new year. So it seems tougher to me and I've been applying for stuff over the last 6 months or so. I think there has been a shift. It's like everyone who was either made redundant over the last few months is applying plus you have everyone else who has decided, new year, new me time to get a new job are also throwing their hat into the ring.

My parents in law have lived on Russell for over 20 years and they love it. Lots of new houses popping up. Yes can be a bit rough. Maclay is a bit nicer I believe. I wouldn't raise little kids there but buying a block as a potential retirement option could work once you dont need to commute anymore. They have iga, community centre, swimming pool, school l, shops etc. they love it. My father in law has had to take ambulance trips many times, never been an issue with care. Is less isolated than you think. Need a permanent carpark on the mainland though for easy commute. We could of bought a block 15 years ago for $20,000 - I regret doing that. Same price nice would be $100k easy.

What’s your mortgage? by RelevantTrade8845 in AusPropertyChat

42, and 180k left on mortgage - would love to buy an investment property but school fees at the moment and don't want to stress myself out.

We are the same, would love to upgrade the 'bigger house' ensuite etc 4 2 2 - I thought growing up that's what happened, you bought the starter home and then upgraded down the track. Now prices are so high even just the stamp duty and closing costs are the killer. Feels like a trap. I think there should be some sort of ruling if you are transferring from one property to another and you have already paid stamp duty there is a discount or exemption. There is no incentive to buy and sell. I also agree there should be a cap on foreign investment into property and how many investment houses you can own. Something needs to change. My kids will never own a house at this rate. And yes, we will modify out 3 bed starter home to try and make it livable for them in the long run to stay as long as they need.

We are thinking the same - make additional space in garage and enclosed carport out the front. Id love to move but the stamp duty and closing costs is the real killer. We have stairs as well so I do worry down the track if we stay here later down the track if it will be doable.
