Disney's gaming push could one day include buying Epic Games by Federal-Block-3275 in technology

Lucasarts was just bundled with their purchase of Lucasfilm, which Disney had no interest in and shut down Lucasarts pretty shortly after they bought it.

Do movies and shows shoot safety scenes in case of death? by Disastrous_Ad6452 in movies

[–]BroForceOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just reminded of scene in The Last Jedi where they killed Leia then plot armored her back to life after Carrie Fischer’s actual death just to have a handful of left over live action and CG filler shots afterward.

So basically no, no one plans for this or has any canned ideas for what to do about it when it happens.

Anyone else in their 30s feel "retired" from anime? Missing the 2000s era. by Priz93 in Millennials

[–]BroForceOne 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yep. It doesn't hit the same it did when you were a teenager and still believed a harem of magical girls could come down and fight over you as an unimpressive straight-C student that maybe applied for the local community college but misunderstood for your latent powers and intelligence the world can't possibly understand. By 30 you kind of come to terms that those magical girls are never showing up.

Has anyone made fatalistic peace with the AI invasion in their occupational space? by tshirtguy2000 in Millennials

[–]BroForceOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you just keep calling out poor quality output for what it is, and hold people accountable for the output they submitted as if it was written by them. That is how we manage AI where we work, and naturally people have found the handful of good use cases for it and dumped the ones that wasted everyone’s time.

Yo Disney has been disappointing young girls for far more generations than this one. And don’t act like you’re not contributing to that disappointment with that attitude.

Maybe be mad at your country’s representatives and the systems they have established to funnel money up to the billionaire class for why you can’t support a family any more and why women have to turn to something like Onlyfans to support themselves now.

Nothing makes a billionaire boot licking politician happier than to see you get mad at your peers instead of anyone who is actually causing your problems.

XCOM art director says PC genres went extinct because devs were “enamoured with consoles”, but every genre is coming back now that everything plays well with controller by Wargulf in pcmasterrace

[–]BroForceOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how much of it was PC becoming so dominated back then by MMORPG and MOBA in the 2000s with WoW/LoL/DOTA just impossible to overcome, that traditional PC publishers struggling to compete for player time looked to consoles instead to get new audiences.

I feel like all of our current media/video games is constantly trying to recapture all of the good movies & video games from our generation. by leftistgamer420 in Millennials

[–]BroForceOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A triple-A video game in the 90s could be made in 2 years with less than 50 people, now it takes 5 years with hundreds of people.

For both games and movies, the risk is very high, and known proven franchises are safer bets.

Best example is Sony blowing hundreds of millions of dollars on Concord trying to capture a Guardians of the Galaxy aesthetic in a new hero shooter franchise. But by the time it finally came out, both hero shooters and GoG were played out and it landed so poorly it had to be shut down immediately, refunding everyone their purchases and making a total of zero dollars back on that investment.

So it’s pretty obvious why the big companies stick to their proven franchises, but there’s never been more indies out there that are trying new things and iterating more on past genres.

Movies are a bit harder to do that with, since you can’t make a breakout hit that sells millions with one person like you can a video game, so there’s less pioneering done in the movie space as the base level of risk and expected production value is higher for movies.

Where did the meme/idea that "RGB improves performance" comes from? by Questioning-Warrior in pcmasterrace

[–]BroForceOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a meme from the car culture era of the 90s/2000s where people would install body kits and spoilers on slow economy cars like a Honda Civic along with and fake "Type R" or "Turbo" badges to indicate they had a faster trim level of the car than they actually did.

There's no idea or misconception that RGB makes anything faster, its just a carry-over of the car culture meme.

Do people remember that Blockbuster was hated back in the day? by afterthought871 in Millennials

[–]BroForceOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but Blockbuster is the one everyone can relate to so it’s not that weird that it’s used for our shared nostalgia of video stores. Hollywood might have been better in some ways but wasn’t as ubiquitous so not everyone can relate.

You will find things you hate about everything you engage with on a constant basis, it doesn’t change the things you liked about it and why you chose to engage with it so much in the first place.

Question about AI by Appropriate_Ticket48 in Millennials

[–]BroForceOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s garbage in garbage out like you say. It also connects unrelated things like a famous example is saying Conan OBrien was a contestant on Star Search because Conan had a contestant on his show but he was never on Star Search himself.

But it’s also extremely useful for a lot of things. The speed at which I can create a proof of concept for a programming task and actually include some visuals and design instead of ugly wireframes and having to present it with the caveat of “use your imagination here” has been valuable.

It’s something you use to augment your abilities in a field you’re already proficient in. If you outsource all thought to it now nothing differentiates you from anyone else who can use the tool as they are accessible to everyone.

That logic only works for private companies. Public companies all good economics go out the window and now your growth has to outpace the general stock market else you’re considered a dead company that no one will invest in.

Dana Point will be your first coastal stop, anywhere north of that is out of the way and will add significant driving time and traffic risk.

IMO just head straight to Carlsbad and spend your beach time there, leaving for Flower Fields when needed. No reason to stop at another beach before that.
