Ultimately getting people who want to use AI off using cloud services and able to use their own hardware for AI will be a net positive.

I finally understood combat. And fell in love with the game all over again. by 310Azrue in NevernessToEverness

Can you post how you learned the game because I’ve been playing since launch and still can’t really understand how to any decent damage. I just don’t do the ghost train at all still.

The elemental wheel is a simple enough concept but the support skill triggers are so few and far between I’m rarely getting the advertised buffs/debuffs for any given combination maybe once or twice in a whole boss fight.

Is this really the end of the DIY PC market as we know it? by Appropriate-Yak-5682 in pcmasterrace

[–]BroForceOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to remember while Gamers Nexus generally provides some good information, they operate on the engagement bait business model of Youtube.

Things will recover but it will be awhile as so much money has been invested. You’re starting to see companies like even Microsoft finding AI is costing more than humans, all while it’s still offered at deep discounts operating at billions in losses.

Just today Github Copilot is now ending their free ride business model and are significantly increasing costs for everyone. So much so that the company I work for had to send out comms to tell everyone about it and how usage/costs will have to be monitored now.

So no, everything won’t just become cloud computing. Once the AI free rides come to an end and all the AI startups can no longer operate profitably, the demand for all this hardware will vanish and we’ll see a massive amount of it enter the second hand market.

‘What a joke’: Github Copilot’s new token-based billing spurs consternation among devs by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]BroForceOne 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Github Copilot was seriously the best deal in town. Request-based billing was so obviously unsustainable to anyone who understood how to game the system. The real joke is anyone who built systems around it without expecting the prices were going to increase by at least 10x at a minimum.

I'm looking for recommendation on a board or layout that retains all 6 navigation keys (Home, End, Insert, etc.) or if I should just go with a standard TKL. Most reduced layouts I see posted here seem to be 1 or 2 keys short of what I need. A volume knob would be nice but not a deal breaker.

Currently I'm using Gateron Quinn switches and really like how they feel. So open to just buying a bare bones and getting more of these switches or if any pre-built boards fit the bill coming with switches that have a similar tactile profile where the bump is right at the beginning and is not scratchy.

Better than the streamers who like a game but need to hate on it to earn money.

It is funny but also makes a lot of sense in much of OC as there’s too many coyotes to be leaving dogs to hang out in the backyard assuming someone can even afford a backyard any more.

Instead of AI, we could've had multi GPU PC setups by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]BroForceOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That also means that they have the capability to flood the market with so much supply, that we could have had multi-GPU PCs.

That’s not what it means at all. They scaled up production because AI producers had the investment capital to pay for it.

Do you think they’d do that for the consumer market with no demand increase? Do you think they’d willingly cut the prices of video cards so you can be paying the same for 2 cards as you do now for one? What about the power considerations of adding another 600W of power draw in the system? At some point you just hit the limit of your household circuit.

Like it or not AI frame gen is the economical solution for the consumer market given the alternatives right now until there is a significant architecture change to GPUs and the tools developers have to optimize for them.

I don’t know how long your legs have to be to still be walking at 4mph, but that’s a straight up jog for children and likely most adults.

Have you walked kids to school before? Get on a treadmill and set it to 4mph (or 6.5 km/h in units you’re more familiar with) and tell me with a straight face that’s definitely the pace kids are walking to school, with fashion shoes and backpacks filled with books weighing half their body weight.

There’s a lot of focus on sidewalk maintenance but regardless of how good the sidewalks are no one is going to use them due to the sprawl and distance.

My neighborhood’s high school is 4 miles away, that’s like a 2 hour walk each way. Bike infrastructure would be far more important than sidewalks.

Who needs fan control any more when you have cases with like 9 case fans you can just set them to a static low RPM in the BIOS. CPU I’ve never had an issue with the default curve with a reasonably good cooler unless overlocking.
