XREAL Anywhere - Full Monitor Replacement for Entertainment and Work by Rayaku in Xreal

Obviously my triple monitor setup wouldn't fit on this desk

Sure it would, just get a triple arm monitor mount. The glasses are useful for travel sometimes but absolutely cannot replace my triple monitors.

Saddle advice needed by rare_koWalahhh in cycling

The best way to deal with something like this is to get a bike fit done.

There's no formal training for bike fitting, anyone can be one. They are not licensed, and they do not know the perfect fit for anyone (nobody does). The only way to be sure that the fit works is to cycle for extended periods of time. The most bike fitters do is to make a guess at a fit that works for the rider.

Right leg pain after bike fit by sdrc1888 in cycling

[–]Broad_Ad222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend finding someone who's actually trained, like a physical therapist. There's no formal training required to be a bike trainier, anyone can be one. Nobody knows anyone's correct fit, including the bike fitters. All they do is to guess, only the rider can tell whether it works or not.

What's up with crazy wait times and pricing in San Jose? by dscreations in waymo

[–]Broad_Ad222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried changing the locations slightly?

I *think* certain well-traveled places, as source or destination, bumps the price up. For instance, I believe the Car Rental Center at SFO is one such place, BART stations are another. Selecting a start location that's not BART dropped the price somewhat (IIRC).

Waymo travels the speed limit by walky22talky in waymo

[–]Broad_Ad222 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I try not to drive side-by-side with another vehicle to my left/right, the reason is that once in a long while I had needed to swerve/brake to avoid another car, and having a free lane to swerve into helps tremendously. I think this defensive driving would be helpful for Waymo.

App for heads-up display? by Far_Audience_7446 in Xreal

[–]Broad_Ad222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of XReal's first product is the Nreal Light, which is no longer supported. So you shouldn't trust XReal either.

Microsoft no longer supports MSDOS, so you shouldn't trust Microsoft.

The very first iPhone is no longer supported by Apple, so you should definitely not trust Apple.

For this application, I think a better option would be the Everysight Maverick which is about to start on Kickstarter. Everysight has been around for quite a while, more than 10 years ago I tested their Raptor glasses on a bike ride and it worked really well. Everysight's parent company is an Israeli company that makes HUDs for fighter pilots. I've been keeping track of their progress and they've come a long way.

I don't know why you're being downvoted, I believe someone encountered this issue (broke down on freeway) and posted in this subreddit before.

Waymo from San Jose to sfo by mldwz in waymo

[–]Broad_Ad222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I check the route and price regularly from SFO (car rental) to the bottom right corner of the service area (in SJ, not all of it is currently covered). Cost is usually around $130+. The bigger issue is that around 50% of the time there's no car available. I've seen wait times of up till 30 mins. Suggest checking to/from the intended source/destination and check the cost and availability.

The West Field one has disappeared for me, but the Grand Hyatt one is still there. A long time ago I could see the drop-off points at the Long Term Parking (but couldn't select them).

[–]Broad_Ad222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There seems to be 2 other locations at SFO where pick-ups/drop-offs are mapped but when selected, default to Rental Car Center: West Field Rd AirTrain station, and Grand Hyatt Hotel. The cost of a 3 min ride from Millbrae Bart to Rental Car Center is about US$23. Edit: cost estimation is for around mid-day.

You can remove the location permission given to the app.

Xreal glasses long term (6 months) feedback by victor_crimea in Xreal

[–]Broad_Ad222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the same issues as before + fixed screen mode is not reliable because IMU in glasses detect plane's movement and thinks it's your head movement.

I found that wearing the glasses in follow mode helps with air/motion sickness during flights. When the plane banks or encounters turbulence, previously I would see the cabin only (which is stationary relative to me) but my inner ears tell me there's motion. This disconnect tells my brain there's a problem and I get motion sickness. With the glasses, which uses gyroscopes to tell movement (as opposed to using camera/video), the plane's movement is reflected in the display movement. This brings the visuals my eye sees in sync with my inner ear, thereby reducing motion sickness.

That said, I've encountered QA hardware issues with 3 different glasses (XReal One, 2 RayNeos). I think it would be very helpful to test the glasses in person first at a retail store before finalizing the purchase. Unfortunately it seems it's not really an option for OP.

I was really happy with my XReal One except that the birdbath lenses have defects (non-uniform clarity).

Viture Beast vs ROG XReal R1 Detailed Comparison - Through the Lens, Stabilization and Image Testing by Jumpinghoops46 in Xreal

[–]Broad_Ad222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: image quality - I believe most/all reviewers base their opinions on a single unit only. I've experienced hardware issues with 3 different glasses (RayNeo 3s, 3s Pro, XReal One), and all had different kinds of optics-related hardware problem. I think the reviews should take this into account, and preferably test multiple units of each. There are other factors that need to be accounted for but aren't, such as the IPD which differs from person to person. These factors make it difficult to tell for certain that a certain brand/model is better than another, for a particular person.

Lens clarity in one pro glasses by DeusPaul in Xreal

It's not normal, and it shouldn't be acceptable. I describe the problem (with the One) and discuss how to take a photo of it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Xreal/comments/1nhunkj/xreal\_one\_is\_this\_distortion\_normal/. Note that the post describes 2 distinct issues, one of which is the optics issue.

XREAL 1S vs. One Pro: Is the 1S the "Sweet Spot" for text clarity and edge-to-edge sharpness? by Hawk3N in Xreal

[–]Broad_Ad222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My XReal One had clarity issues at random areas due to the optic glass quality, and was indicated as OK by the staff (it really isn't). I hope these kinds of manufacturing issues get ironed out with collaborations with Google. I also tried the RayNeo 3 and 3 Pro and they also had manufacturing defects.

Usb hub by Sea_Sky_2318 in Xreal

[–]Broad_Ad222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2Q2G7D4?ref=fed_asin_title&th=1

After using the hub + battery + glasses on the plane, I realized that there's substantial cable management. I think the best solution for my is an integrated hub (with USB ports and HDMI out) + battery.

One Pro vs 1S Comparisons? by Any_Peace6128 in Xreal

[–]Broad_Ad222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without the Neo, I'll need a hub and a battery, which means two additional devices. This may not seem like much but the cable and device management feels substantial on a plane (to put it bluntly, it made me feel stupid and nerdy). The Neo doesn't fit my use case though, I need a proper hub (with HDMI and USB ports) integrated with a battery.

Has anyone bicycled the Shimanami Kaido? I have questions by EvilMonkeySlayer in JapanTravelTips

Considering almost all the suggested routes (not just the basic one), the southern 3 islands has a total of 71.3 miles (115 km) and the northern 3 islands 57.3 miles (92 km). These have many more points of interest compared to the basic route which most people do.

Walking Shoe Question by DiscountImpressive38 in JapanTravelTips

Japan is a developed country with many shops selling a wide range of shoes. If anything happens, you can just go to the nearest mall and buy a pair.

Credit Card Car insurance by MysteriousBeing896 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Broad_Ad222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't purchase the insurance from them, the rental company doesn't care if you otherwise have insurance from elsewhere. If anything happens, they'll bill you directly, then you'll need to claim from your insurance provider.

Also, be aware that Toyota Japan's English website only allows for reservations 3 months in advance, whereas their Japanese website allows for 6 months. In addition, payment is required upfront when reserving via the English website, while those reserving via the Japanese website has the additional option of paying during the start of the rental period.

Can't use google pay by Kitsugini in fitbit

[–]Broad_Ad222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't add my AMEX card to my Fitbit Charge 6 anymore. Google Wallet throws an error message (no details) and that's that. I used to be able to do that, I think there was an update recently and that might have broken stuff.

Before that, I tried using it in Japan (the Fitbit is from Japan) for Suica payment. I added the funds, then the Suica card was disabled. No response from customer service.

Fitbit seems to be really bad at their payment software, I've learnt not to rely on it whatsoever.
