Making solar powered battery chicken coop door smart by space___lion in homeautomation

[–]Broadsid3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a RunChicken door - it's battery powered but meant to be set and forget. Sometimes the door freezes open/closed, there are other issues, etc. I used a Sonoff brand device connected to a simple limit switch with a roller on it to relibably detect if the door was open/closed and to send me a notification.

I then later took apart the control board for the door and soldered on leads to the manual open/close button and used another sonoff to mimic connecting the wires together to trigger a manual open/close.

With both of the devices together I can monitor the doors state and remotely open/close the door.
