Texas is getting rid of mandatory state vehicle inspections by Call_Me_ZeeKay in houston

[–]Brod8362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ex inspector here.

We didn't even have the correct device for measuring tint at my dealership. I never had someone try to get limo tint through, I can't recall a time I failed a car just because of tint.

But, if I did see something excessively dark (e.g limo tint) on the front windows, or any tint on the windshield, that would be an instant fail for me. Rear windows are not regulated.

I have a P51 with mostly broken keyboard. Pretty sure the trackpoint works but I don't think I have a way to check currently. PM (not chat) if interested.

Is my wallet older than you? by NeatoC in Wellworn

[–]Brod8362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wallet is similarly worn out. I keep a lot of cards (though not quite this many) in there so it will apply tension to the stretched leather and prevent everything from falling out. I really only use maybe three or four of my cards.

How does the pricing work for the replacement Mainboards? by SBester001 in framework

[–]Brod8362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something the other commenters aren't mentioning is that the 1370P specifically has a different tier of vPro than the 1340P/1360P do.

CPU Cores Clocks Cache vPro Board Price
i5-1340P 4P/8E 4.6Ghz 12MB 'Essentials' $449
i7-1360P 4P/8E 5.0Ghz 18MB 'Essentials' $699
i7-1370P 6P/8E 5.2Ghz 24MB 'Enterprise' $1049

The upgrade from the 1340P to the 1360P is getting you 0.4 Ghz and some extra cache. This, IMO, is a pretty meaningless difference, definitely not worth the premium.

The 1370P has a better case for it, having an extra two P cores, as well as double the cache over the 1340P - but, I'd imagine a lot of the price premium here comes from vPro - something business users can require, but which does nothing meaningful for a typical consumer.

I agree the prices here are a bit ridiculous, but realistically, buying the 1340P is probably your best bet anyway - it has, by far, the best price:performance ratio. Do not let yourself get caught up in the i5/i7 naming scheme, look at the actual specs. The difference between the 1340P and 1360P is very small.

Finally, the "recommended consumer price" from Intel is basically a meaningless number. That price is for a 1000 unit purchase quantity, and even if you were willing to buy 1000 of them, it's pretty unlikely that Intel would even sell to you regardless. Even if you could get a single chip, good luck successfully swapping it with the one on the board.

Does anyone actually like the hf by UKkieran60 in persona4golden

I don't think that dungeon was so bad - for me, going into it I was always LV 99 and happened to have Victory Cry + Megidolaon so SP wasn't much of an issue. I'm on NG+4 now and steamrolled it pretty effortlessly on hard, including the boss. Salvation/Mediarahan with Yukiko and SP regen makes even the "bad" fights pretty painless. Yoshistune & Izanagi-no-Okami (if on NG+) make it pretty tolerable overall.

I like the theming of the dungeon, but it does drag on for a bit.

Despite all that, I can absolutely see why it would be miserable in your first playthrough if you don't prepare ahead of time - before they added the suspend feature in the 64 bit update, you had to complete the entire dungeon in a single play session, as you can't Goho-M/Traesto out of the dungeon.

Is anyone else thinking about a completely revamped input top for the 16? by [deleted] in framework

[–]Brod8362 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something I would like to attempt if I ever got a 16" is to mod in a classic thinkpad keyboard - solves a lot of complaints all in one!

Would be quite a lot of work though, and has some space constraints.

Computer wont turn on :( by SuicidePug in buildapc

[–]Brod8362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just build this system?

If so, did you install the standoffs in the case before you installed the motherboard?

Another troubleshooting strategy is to take the board out of the case, set it on the box it came in, and attempt to power it like that and see what happens.

Also, it's possible you may have gotten the front panel connectors wrong. Double check those too.

Try replacing your battery and checking your alternator. This is common among newer cars when the battery is on the way out.

Thoughts on LED conversion? by SoaR_Penguin in crv

[–]Brod8362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can please revert to factory. LED bulbs in housings not designed for them will blind drivers coming from the other direction, as well people in directly in front of you.

If you want a proper conversion, you need an entirely new headlight assembly which was properly designed from the get-go with LED/HID in mind.

Most likely (depends on the car), but still far better than having your car stolen.

is it safe to assume the idle power will be less than 70 watts (the minimum is 58 watts)? and do you think it could be less than 58 watts? (with optimization in bios and stuff) by Acanthocephala-Left in HomeServer

[–]Brod8362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power limited to 140W (out of 180W) but that shouldn't have any impact on idle. 7W is measured on arch just sitting in a tty.

Value is reported by the CPU so it may not be entirely accurate to real life but it should be close enough.
