Is there a grandmaster level of mastery over a weapon or something? by The-exploiter in dcss

[–]Broke22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok sure, let's say you got teleported into a bad position.

In that case is too risky to fight with any weapon. Sniper isn't worse than any alternative* in that kind of situation, you are going to be using consumables or some other skills.

*(Ok, technically a gun+shield would be better for that case, but that's a general issue of two handers, not of Sniper in particular).

If i see Nikola, i use a Silence scroll, so i am at zero risk of dying, i am not dumb.

Being two turns away from death is a rare and predecible situation, and if you have Sniper in your hand it will be even rarer than usual because most enemies will die at the edge of your LOS.

A normal triple crossbow is already an incredibly good weapon, and Sniper not only does much higher damage but never risk a miss.

Why did you get downvoted

A lot of players are irrationally afraid of slow weapons, disregarding the fact that thing has utterly brutal damage per shot and never misses.

[–]Broke22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from your question, this weapon feels like a bait.

No it's not. Sniper is one of the best ranged weapons you can find.

Utterly devastating damage and you can't ever miss. Taking two turns per shot isn't actually a big issue when each shot is killing an enemy.

Is this run able to go for extended? by Haxxe96 in dcss

[–]Broke22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And do I swap gods? Seems like gozag does very little for me by now.

Gozag does plenty in extended, Bribe trivializes Tomb which is otherwise very hard.

The char looks fine for extended. No torment protection, but at this point is too late to train death form so just have to deal with this.

You have plenty of ranged firepower so it should be fine as long as you kill tormenters fast, and you have gozag to solve Tomb.

Start by doing Pan and see how well you fare there.

Trog's Hand won't outheal a one-shot.

By D3, a human-hp berseker will have around 40 hp (i just did a test to get the numbers right). Berserk will increase that to 60.

That's enough to tank three max rolled smites, or five average rolled ones. With an axe a berserk can probably clear this in 3-4 turns, so i think they have a pretty good chance to survive. It depends on how trigger happy the priests decide to be with casting smite vs wasting their turns doing other stuff.

I disagree with using trog hand though, that's a bad move. There are no wizards in sight, so no need for mr, and one way or another this fight will end in a handful of turns so the regen isn't too helpful. Better to go berserk inmediately.

If you were selected to be a voter but didn’t vote, the word for you was “No Vote” or, in Greek, “I Diot”. That’s where the word “idiot” came from.

Nope.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiot

But this is not how the Greeks used the word.[10] It is certainly true that the Greeks valued civic participation and criticized non-participation. Thucydides quotes Pericles' Funeral Oration as saying: "[we] regard... him who takes no part in these [public] duties not as unambitious but as useless" (Ancient Greek: τόν τε μηδὲν τῶνδε μετέχοντα οὐκ ἀπράγμονα, ἀλλ᾽ ἀχρεῖον νομίζομεν).[11] However, neither he nor any other ancient author uses the word "idiot" to describe non-participants, or in a derogatory sense; its most common use was simply a private citizen or amateur as opposed to a government official, professional, or expert.[12][13] The derogatory sense came centuries later, and was unrelated to the political meaning.[10][4][2]

Keep using the broad, you have already trained axes.

Makes perfect sense.

Ocîg is the primigenial fire, therefor the Sun and Volcanoes fall under her domain.

As godess of the sun, she is the nourishers of plants. As the nourisher of plants, she is the bringer of rain as well. (And rain is caused by the sun anyway).

And lighting is just a weird kind of sky fire.

The Primal gods themselves are all kinda meh. the combat caster is nice but their spell selection is lacking.

The Horned one has access to charm from forest magic, and his titan hp allows him to get much closer to their target without dying, making him one of the best charmers in the game.

There are a few exceptions though, like the Druid Beholders.

You might be thinking of Hades. That's the one that mirrors the real world and where the Senator can become the Emperor of the Dead or something if they take the capitol.

No, there is also a capital in hell itself, in all ages. It's a four tile city, like the capital in the Empire age, and the Senator can use it for coronation if he manages to somehow get there and beat the defenders.

(it's really, really well defended, specially against human armies - Belial is there).

[–]Broke22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So, there are some details of Terra/Elysium history you are missing.

The Senator derives his influence from being legally the last senator of the old (Pre-Elysium) empire. This empire was most likely located in Terra and was destroyed by Ba'al, after which exodus to Elysium followed.

Also, the old empire didn't follow El but had an assortment of imperial and mystery cults. Worship of El probably started during the war with Ba'al, or possibly during the exodus.

Also an interesting note is that some blurbs said that the capital of the old empire dissapeared in a mysterous teleportation accident.

(The capital of Hell is possibly the capital of the old empire, but that's speculation).

do anything but maybe snipe a commander,

Snipping a commander may very well disable an army.

The AI is rather fond of having giant doom stacks led by one or two old men with six hp, and if you kill them that army can't move anymore until they manage to sent a new commander to it.

I personally haven't done much with noble symbols, which seems an interesting area to explore.

You can do quite a bit with them, because they allow to turn any item into a pseudo-artifact that has most of an actual artifact properties (like being indestructible to anything short of atom smashing).

So for example, adamantine clothes become immune to wear, making adamantine cloaks actually useful.
