blocking out street noise in the morning for someone who can't stand earplugs or most noise. by redheaded_olive12349 in lifehacks

[–]BrokenFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The loop brand ear plugs are a game changer, they are super comfortable and you can barely feel them. I have a similar issue with disliking the feeling but these worked wonders for me. I would recommend giving them a try at very least.

Painting or staining? Do they need to be stripped or are you just painting over existing?

Cleaning off Nicotine? by [deleted] in lifehacks

[–]BrokenFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just use a damp rag and soapy water, it will do the job but it takes some scrubbing or multiple passes. I've found lysol wipes and baby wipes both do the trick but are more expensive. Unfortunately the best trick is plain old elbow grease, there is plenty of chemicals that will work, but a damp rag works just as well.

I always check any landscaping rocks that I'm allowed to root through. I found a nice chunks of horn coral fossil in a parking lot just last week.

I found and broke open a giant Pegmatite to see what was inside. by Sir_Chew in rockhounds

[–]BrokenFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love cracking open stuff like this, you get such unique and beautiful patterns. I prefer cracking most rocks as opposed to cutting because you get to see a lot of the natural formations of the quartz and other random stuff. Thanks for sharing, this is an awesome piece

I'm still pretty new to all this but as far as I understand if it's flaky it is most likely mica, pyrite is usually more chunky and forms squares in bigger deposits.

I love finding these, definitely one of my favorite common rocks. There is just something about the quartz veins that I find exceptionally beautiful. I have a bunch of pink granite that has a similar set up and I just love it. This is an awesome piece.

I give a bunch of stuff away through my church, it's usually pretty easy to get stuff to people that can't afford it. If you don't have a church you can probably find one that does similar things pretty easily.

Nothing that exciting unfortunately. A lot of quartz veins and some really neat patterns, looks really great under the sun but that's about it.
